Biography

Lawrence Trask was the male son of Bolivar Trask who was born in the modern age with him having a sister named Tanya Trask with both children being born as Mutants. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #-1) At age 5, the young Larry predicted the death of his mother with her dying according to his prophecy. After her death, his father crafted a medallion that erased memories of this event and negated his Mutant power. (X-Men v1 #59)

After unveiling his first Sentinels, Dr. Trask was kidnapped and ordered to serve the Sentinels and help build more of them, by Master Mold, the prototype Sentinel. The X-Men battled the first Sentinels and followed to their base. After realizing the error of his ways, Dr. Trask destroyed the laboratory and the Sentinels and he died in the resulting explosion. (X-Men v1 #16)

Larry did not return to his mutant-hunting ways, though he would have another brush with his Sentinels. (Avengers v1 #103) The Mark II Sentinels returned from space, calling themselves Neo-Sentinels, with a new directive and abducted the Scarlet Witch. (Avengers v1 #102) He then embarked an elaborate plan to sterilize humanity by causing a solar flare. Larry was abducted by Wanda's brother, Quicksilver, who remembered Trask from when he and his sister were previously abducted by the Sentinels. Quicksilver removed Larry's medallion, restoring Larry's knowledge of a Sentinel base in Australia. This also re-awakened Larry's precognitive abilities and he had a powerful vision of all-encompassing darkness that he interpreted to be the end of the world. (Avengers v1 #103) Larry and Quicksilver traveled to Australia and joined the Avengers, in the effort to save the Scarlet Witch. Larry turned on the base's mutant detector, which revealed that Number 2 had been mutated, due to close contact with the sun's radiation in space. Larry used logic to turn the Sentinels against their "mutant" leader and the robots destroyed each other. Larry saved the world from his father's creations; however, he was crushed to death when the Sentinels were depowered and toppled over. The black void Larry saw was not the end of the world; he had unknowingly predicted his own death. (Avengers v1 #104)

Larry Trask came to be resurrected on Krakoa by the Five, coming to accept his identity as a mutant. However, in the moment of his return, he had visions of apocalyptic futures caused by powerful mutants. After Krakoa was disbanded, he returned to lead his father's company and came to be assigned to the Graymalkin Prison that was formerly the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Whilst there, he had the task of developing and leading a new task-force to apprehend mutants to incarcerate: his Fireteam was composed of humans provided with Sentinel-based nanotech augmentations, because Larry believed actual Sentinels to be counterproductive to his scope. (Sentinels v1 #1) Unbeknownst to his superiors, he was harvesting the nanotechnology from the body of Juston Seyfert, a young boy who following his death was resurrected by his Sentinel's nanobots. The reason he did this was due to Juston carrying the reprogramming he did to his Sentinel which made it protect humanity instead of solely killing mutants. (Sentinels v1 #4) Larry sent the Fireteam to capture the mutants he had visions about, angering the warden of Graymalkin Prison, Doctor Corina Ellis, who wanted to command the Fireteam too. (Sentinels v1 #1) After more and more of Fireteam members started losing control of their actions and lost their humanity, Trask tried to leave the Prison, but his escape was prevented by Ellis' assistant, Scurvy, who forced Trask to reveal all the truth about the nanotechnology and Seyfert to him. (Sentinels v1 #4) He was forced by Scurvy to remove his medallion and the Fireteam program disbanded. Dr. Ellis then decided to keep him as a prisoner to take advantage of his divinatory powers. (Sentinels v1 #5)
