Biography
Zero Two (Japanese: ゼロツー Hepburn: Zero Tsū) was a female Human/Klaxosaur hybrid who was created by Dr. FRANXX from the genetic material of the Klaxosaur Princess. The experiment that created her resulted in many specimens similar to herself but most failed to survive with this making her the only successful hybrid. Engineered as a human-Klaxosaur hybrid, she was created to serve as a weapon in humanity’s war against the Klaxosaurs, monstrous subterranean creatures that threatened the remaining human settlements. From her earliest missions, Zero Two distinguished herself through unmatched combat efficiency, operating her Franxx, Strelizia, with lethal precision. Her unconventional tactics and disregard for protocol made her both a valued asset and a feared outlier within the organization’s rigid hierarchy.
Her path changed when she met Hiro, a former prodigy pilot who had lost his ability to synchronize with other partners. Drawn to him by a deep, instinctual connection, Zero Two proposed to pilot with him despite the danger posed by her hybrid nature. Their first mission together reignited Hiro’s piloting ability, and the two quickly became inseparable both in and out of battle. As their synchronization deepened, fragments of Zero Two’s suppressed memories resurfaced—revealing that she and Hiro had known each other as children during secret experiments conducted by APE scientists. Their reunion reignited a bond that defied the system’s strict emotional suppression, turning their partnership into a symbol of rebellion and individuality.
As the conflict against the Klaxosaurs intensified, Zero Two’s hybrid physiology began to deteriorate, revealing the toll her genetics took on both her body and mind. Her growing obsession with becoming fully human drove her to recklessness and emotional instability, straining her relationship with Hiro and alienating her fellow pilots in Squad 13. Eventually, the truth of her origin emerged: she was not a monster, but a living bridge between humanity and the Klaxosaurs, created to harness their power. When the alien VIRM invaded Earth, threatening both species, Zero Two transcended her role as a soldier, merging her consciousness with Strelizia True Apus to confront the invaders alongside Hiro in a final, sacrificial act that ended the war.

Personality and attributes
In appearance, Zero Two's humanoid form varied depending on the differing stages of her life cycle. As a child, she was noted for her red skin, long sharp nails and fanged teeth with her eyes having red sclera instead of white. She also manifested horns that were larger than her head whilst her hair was a lighter shade of pink. When she grew up, she showed a more human appearance with a fair complex along with a slender and athletic figure with her being quite tall. She also had waist-length long pink hair with straight bangs that covered her forehead along with a pair of red horns on her head. Zero Two also had sharp turquoise eyes with rings around the pupils along with pinkish-red markings on the canthi. She was also known by a number of code names including Code:002 (コード:002, Kōdo:002) and as 9'℩ (ナインイオタ, Nain Iota, "Nine Iota"). The higher number of deaths caused to people that used to partner with her led to her being called the Partner Killer.
Zero Two’s personality was complex and contradictory—playful, impulsive, and teasing on the surface, yet driven by loneliness and a desperate yearning for acceptance. She often referred to herself as a monster, using humor and seduction as defense mechanisms against the fear of rejection. Her attachment to Hiro became the core of her emotional stability, revealing her capacity for deep loyalty and tenderness beneath her violent instincts. While initially selfish and volatile, her arc reflected a gradual rediscovery of compassion, trust, and love, as she learned to see herself as more than a weapon or experiment.
Powers and abilities
Zero Two was noted for being an artificially-created hybrid between humans and klaxo sapiens where she was actually a clone of the Klaxosaur Princess.
Zero Two possessed enhanced strength, agility, and reflexes due to her Klaxosaur DNA, allowing her to perform beyond the limits of a normal human pilot. She was capable of synchronizing with her Franxx at an unprecedented level, enabling Strelizia to operate with immense power and mobility. Her physical durability exceeded human norms, and she could recover from injuries at an accelerated rate. However, prolonged combat and emotional instability triggered violent mutations and physiological degradation. In her final evolution as part of Strelizia True Apus, Zero Two’s consciousness fused completely with the Franxx’s core, allowing her to channel interdimensional energy and engage the VIRM fleet in space—a testament to both her hybrid nature and indomitable will.
