Zack Taylor
Zack and his close friends Kimberly Hart, Jason Lee Scott, Billy Cranston and Trini Kwan were picked as the five original Power Rangers by the wise sage Zordon to defend Earth from the evil sorceress Rita Repulsa. After traveling through time Zack was chosen as the Black Power Ranger, gaining the Mastodon Power Coin and the Mastodon Dinozord.

Personality and attributes
In appearance, Zack Taylor was a seventeen-year-old human male of African-American descent. He possessed a lean, highly athletic build, short-cropped black hair, dark brown eyes, and a smooth, dark complexion. In his civilian activities at the juice bar, his standard attire consisted of a sleeveless bright purple tank top featuring distinct multicolored geometric prints, paired with loose-fitting black workout pants and casual sneakers optimized for dance and athletic movements. Upon initiating his superhuman transformation, his physical appearance transitioned into the form-fitting battle uniform of the Black Ranger. This specialized combat gear featured a primary jet-black torso, cowl, and legging layout, accented by white diamonds running across his chest and matching white bands encircling his upper boots and gloves. The uniform was completed by a silver metallic belt housing his golden Power Morpher buckler. His head was completely enclosed by a glossy, matching black battle helmet that prominently replicated the physical contours of a mastodon, featuring stylized silver tusks molded over the jawline and a dark, opaque black visor that completely obscured his human features. Quick-witted and clever, Zack relies on a combination of skill, strength, and agility to win his battles. The original Black Ranger is an energetic, charismatic, and fun-loving young man.
Zack is a prankster and particularly enjoys holidays such as Halloween, to scare his friends; in contrast he was greatly afraid of bugs and snakes, a fear he partially conquered when he fought the monster Spidertron.
As a close friend to both Jason and Tommy, all three liked to work out together and practice their martial arts.
After Tommy Oliver joined the team, he and Zack quickly became close friends as a result of their similar interests. When Tommy was nervous about trying to engage a romantic relationship with Kimberly, it was Zack who Tommy sought for advice. Before Tommy appeared, Zack was usually Jason's sparring partner when practicing Karate. Tommy and Zack would also act as sparring partners for each other, as well. Though Jason was the Ranger Tommy selected to take on his Green Ranger powers after Rita eliminated Tommy's link to the Morphing Grid, Zack is the only other individual to don the Dragon Shield when Tommy gave it to him so that its enhanced regenerative powers could heal Zack from the Oysterizer monster's acidic attack.
Powers and abilities
Zack Taylor was born a regular member of the human race. On a basic feats level, his baseline physical capabilities included exceptional human agility, fast reflexes, and heightened physical stamina developed through his dedication to athletic conditioning and creative dance. He enjoys dancing at every chance he gets, and even developed his own fighting style, Hip Hop Kido, which he occasionally taught. The customized art consisted of dance-like maneuvers flourished with fast and powerful strikes, much like Capoeira or as seen by actor Daniel O' Neill in Bangkok Adrenaline. This effective combination of power and prowess made Zack an incredibly formidable combatant. However, he would sometimes tone down his style and mimic the attacks of Billy to simultaneously strike opponents. He was also very resourceful. On several occasions, it was his cunning that led his team to victory. Such occasions included his discovery of the means to overcome the Knasty Knight who was sent to isolate and destroy him on his birthday- the monster possessed the ability to redistribute the Ranger's force in order to fry the weapons they used against him. When the storm-bringing chimera monster Goatan froze the Megazord, Zack analyzed what little resources the Megazord had left and used it to regain dominance in the battle.
He derived his advanced superhero attributes from an external catalyst when he bonded with the Mastodon Power Coin via a specialized Power Morpher buckle. This interdimensional energy synchronization permanently optimized his cellular structure, granting Zack Taylor superhuman lifting strength, enhanced running speed, and heightened durability that allowed his physical vessel to absorb high-impact concussive blasts from alien weaponry without sustaining critical damage. He was an exceptionally skilled brawler who seamlessly fused standard karate stances with rhythmic street dancing to create a highly unpredictable, self-made martial arts discipline known as Hip Hop Kido. This style allowed him to outmaneuver multiple combatants simultaneously. Furthermore, his connection to the Power Coin granted him direct mental command over the multi-ton Mastodon Dinozord, enabling him to manipulate complex robotic weapon systems and pilot capital-scale armor units under intense psychological and physical battlefield pressure.
