Biography
William Adama was a male human born in 57 BCH on Caprica in the Twelve Colonies of Kobol where he was the son of Joseph Adama and Evelyn Adama. (Episode: Hero)
Commander William Adama prepared for his final day of service aboard the Battlestar Galactica as it underwent a public decommissioning and transformation into a museum. He began the morning by drafting a retirement speech and engaging in a familiar, coded greeting with Kara "Starbuck" Thrace as she jogged through the corridors. On the hangar deck, he received a restored Viper Mark II as a gift from Chief Tyrol’s crew, along with a photograph of himself and his two sons, which visibly shook him due to the unresolved grief over his son Zak’s death and the resulting rift with his surviving son, Lee. After meeting with Laura Roslin and firmly denying her request to network the ship’s computers—a decision rooted in his historical mistrust of Cylon sabotage—he delivered a somber decommissioning address that questioned whether humanity truly deserved to survive. When the Cylon nuclear assault began, Adama immediately transitioned the ship to action stations, ordered the release of Starbuck from the brig, and utilized the ship’s older, non-networked Mark II Vipers to defend against the initial raider attacks. Following the destruction of the Colonial Fleet’s high command, he assumed the role of military leader of the remaining forces and ordered all surviving ships to rendezvous at Ragnar Anchorage for a potential counterattack. However, his priorities clashed with those of the newly sworn-in President Roslin, leading to a tense standoff when he initially refused her orders to protect civilian ships over military regrouping. The conflict culminated in deep personal tragedy for Adama when he witnessed a telemetry reading of a nuclear explosion at his son’s position, leading him to believe for a time that he had lost another child to the war.
