Biography

Vincent Gonzales

He came to be the new roommate of Peter Parker, though their initial meeting was defined by a distinct lack of warmth. He spent much of the day navigating the social tensions of his apartment, where he expressed open irritation toward Peter for being late with his share of the rent and for his general lack of punctuality. As an officer with the NYPD, Vin was shown to be deeply cynical and frustrated with the state of the city, particularly regarding the rise of vigilantes. He participated in the police response to the Spider-Tracer Killings, a series of murders where the victims were found with Spider-Man’s tracers on them, which led Vin to openly voice his distrust and disdain for the wall-crawler. Throughout the issue, he maintained a gruff, antagonistic rapport with Peter, viewing him as a flaky and unreliable 'freeloader' while simultaneously trying to manage the pressures of a city gripped by fear over a potential serial killer. His role in this debut was primarily as a grounded, civilian foil to Peter’s chaotic double life, establishing him as a skeptical voice within the police force who had little patience for the costumed heroes of New York. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #546) Gonzales continued to balance his frustrations as Peter Parker's roommate with his escalating duties as an officer in a city haunted by the 'Spider-Tracer Killings'. He spent much of his time at the precinct, where he operated as a vocal critic of Spider-Man, actively participating in the police briefing that identified the wall-crawler as a primary suspect in a string of murders. Vin displayed a dogged, blue-collar work ethic, though his mood remained sour due to the pressure from his superiors to produce results in the high-profile case. Within the domestic sphere, he remained a source of significant stress for Peter, as he continued to grumble about their living situation and Peter's constant disappearances. When a new menace known as Overdrive led the police on a high-speed chase through Manhattan, Vin was part of the coordinated law enforcement response, witnessing the chaotic interference of Spider-Man firsthand. His actions throughout the day reinforced his role as a man firmly committed to the badge, whose personal disdain for masked vigilantes was only deepened by the perceived evidence linking his roommate's 'hero' to a series of cold-blooded executions. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #547)

He was later partnered with an officer named O'Niel who went on patrols together. During one such patrol, they found Spider-Man alongside some money from the F.E.A.S.T. centre with Gonzales attempting to arrest him but the Wall-Crawler escape but not before he said that he was a thief had stolen the money. After recovering the $200, they checked the roof where Spider-Man said he had webbed the perpetrator but found only the person's clothes as he had escaped. Vin believed that Spider-Man was responsible for the theft and that the supposed thief was simply a lie though his partner O'Niel believed otherwise. Upon returning the money to F.E.A.S.T., it was confirmed by eye witnesses that the perpetrator was a thief and not the masked superhero. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #552)

During a snowstorm, Spider-Man left a scientist named Rabin alongside some Mayan warriors that had out to kill him. Officer Gonzales was at the Fifth Precinct at the time when the city was engulfed in a snowstorm. Initially, Gonzales came to believe that Spider-Man was a criminal and that Rabin was in league with him. However, Vin was convinced by Carlie that perhaps Rabin was the victim. During this time, he attempted to ask her to be his roommate as he liked Carlie but she mistakenly believed that he was looking for a roommate and suggested Peter Parker. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #557)
