Biography
Original
Carin Taylor
Carin was a runaway who was abducted by the shadowy conglomerate Cyberdata, an organization infamous for experimenting on humans to create enhanced operatives known as Special Hazardous Operations Cyborgs (SHOCs). Subjected to brutal genetic and cybernetic experiments, Carin was forcibly transformed into a speedster with hyper-accelerated physiology. Unlike many of Cyberdata’s other test subjects, Carin retained her humanity and empathy, and eventually escaped with the help of Heatwave, Ripclaw, and other renegades who went on to form the superhero team known as Cyberforce. (Cyberforce v1 #1) Following her escape from Cyberdata, Carin Taylor joined the newly formed Cyberforce and quickly became embroiled in a conflict with the corporate entity she had fled. During a mission to rescue her sister, Cassandra, from a S.H.O.C. facility, she utilized her superhuman speed to infiltrate the complex and bypass its heavy security measures. While within the base, she successfully navigated through various defensive layers and engaged several S.H.O.C. units in high-speed combat. Her primary focus remained on locating her sister, though she was forced to confront the psychological trauma of her previous conditioning while deep inside enemy territory. Despite the intense pressure and the physical strain of her cybernetic enhancements, she managed to secure vital data and assist her teammates in their tactical withdrawal, further solidifying her role as the team's primary scout and rapid-response operative. (Cyberforce v1 #2)
During a rescue operation to extract the mutant known as Impact from a Cyberdata research facility, Carin Taylor sprinted through the complex at speeds exceeding the perception of the base’s automated defenses. She utilized her rapid reflexes to disarm security personal and clear a path for Stryker and the rest of her teammates. Once they located their objective, she acted as a high-speed courier, moving vital medical equipment and securing the perimeter while the team stabilized the captive. When reinforcements arrived to block their exit, she created a kinetic diversion, drawing enemy fire away from the wounded and providing the necessary opening for the group to reach their extraction point safely. Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Velocity was a young attractive female human who was instantly recognizable by her green bodysuit with white lightning-like markings, often paired with her flowing orange hair. The design emphasized both speed and youthful energy, distinguishing her visually from the darker, more heavily armored members of Cyberforce. (Cyberforce v1 #1)
In personality, Velocity was compassionate, shy, and empathetic, often serving as the moral center of Cyberforce. While initially insecure and prone to self-doubt, she possesses inner strength and resilience that emerges when her friends and family are threatened. Her optimism and humanity balance the more brutal tendencies of her teammates, making her a heart-of-the-team figure. (Cyberforce v2 #6)
Velocity was still struggling with her trauma and inexperience. Unlike her teammates, who were seasoned warriors or hardened killers, Carin was portrayed as vulnerable, insecure, and hesitant to embrace violence. However, she was fiercely loyal and consistently pushed herself to support the team despite her fears. (Cyberforce v1 #4)
Despite the level of development undergone by Carin at the hands of Cyberdata, she was never transformed into a fully operational SHOC, as her psychological profile was never wiped and re-instated into a more appropriately amoral and obedient state better suited to the needs and desires of Cyberdata. (Cyberforce v1 #1)
Carin's memories appear not so much to have been erased as suppressed, as under duress, she starts to recover fragments of her memories. She has vignettes of her life as a child, playing ball with her sister and father, and already beginning to display her power. Another vignette reveals that her father left, or died, and her mother entered into another relationship with an unnamed but abusive man. (Cyberforce v1 #1)
She developed strong bonds with teammates like Ripclaw and Heatwave, who often served as her mentors, and her relationship with her older sister, Ballistic—also a product of Cyberdata’s experiments—provided significant emotional conflict. Ballistic’s more ruthless nature clashed with Carin’s idealism, testing her belief in morality within a violent world. (Cyberforce v2 #6)
Powers and abilities
Carin's induction into the SHOCS program endowed her with supersonic speed and movement. She was cybernetically enhanced with a layer of Kevlar implanted beneath her skin to combat the friction generated by her high speeds. (Cyberforce V1 #1)
Velocity possessed superhuman speed, reflexes, and stamina as a result of Cyberdata’s experiments. She can move at supersonic velocities, dodge bullets, create afterimages, and perform complex maneuvers in fractions of a second. Her accelerated physiology also gives her heightened durability and resistance to fatigue, though she is not invulnerable and remains physically less durable than her more heavily cybernetically enhanced teammates. (Velocity v2 #1)
