Thomas Wayne

One day, he and his wife Martha Wayne witnessed their son Bruce Wayne murdered by a gunman in an alley during a botched mugging. (Flashpoint v2 #1)

Thomas tracked down Chill and was going to poison him but decided to beat him to death with his bare hands. His wife Martha Wayne was so traumatized by the event she cut her face into a garish grin and soon enough, descended into insanity and became this altered timeline's version of the Joker. (Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance v1 #1)

These casinos are managed on his behalf by Oswald Cobbelpot as his security chief, while Batman fights crime. Local judge Harvey Dent was distressed when his twin children are kidnapped by the Joker, so he calls in Thomas and James Gordon who we learn is the Chief of Gotham's privatised police force, owned and funded by Wayne. Dent blames Wayne for the kidnapping as it was he who convinced him that privatising the police force was a good idea, and threatens to take both it and his casinos away if his children were not found. (Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance v1 #1) Gordon, who knows Thomas is Batman and is his closest confidant, works the case while Thomas recovers from a fight with Killer Croc in Gotham's sewers. He consults with Selina Kyle, who is paraplegic in this world and fulfills the role of Oracle, and follows a clue to track down where the Joker is holding the children; The long abandoned Wayne Manor. He misleads Thomas and tries to take down Joker himself, but in a shocking twist ends up shooting Dent's daughter who the Joker had disguised to look like herself. When he realises his mistake and tries to help the girl, The Joker appears from behind him and cuts his throat. This is when we learn that this Joker is none other than Martha Wayne, driven insane by grief following Bruce's murder. Thomas cannot bring himself to kill her due to their past relationship, and so he feels responsible for the Joker's crimes. (Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance v1 #2)

Batman started working with Catwoman, a young thief he once spared and grew attached to like a father figure, leading him to abandon his violent ways. She was however shot by Martha through the gut and paralyzed, making him relapse into his old ways again. (Batman v3 #84)

Later that night, the powerless Barry Allen was looking for Batman, and entered the Batcave. When Barry entered the Batcave but was immediately attacked by this far more violent Caped Crusader, against whom he is no match without his speedster abilities. It was only when Barry called out the name 'Bruce' that Thomas ceased his assault and the two are able to talk. It was then that Barry learnt that this timeline's Bruce Wayne was killed as a boy and he was able to deduce that the man standing in front of him was Thomas Wayne. (Flashpoint v2 #1) Allen reveals to this Batman that the timeline he is living in is an altered version of his own, with significant changes resulting in a much darker and more violent world. Batman asks Barry the details of his son's life after his mainstream counterpart's own death. Willing to change history and ready to sacrifice his own life to restore his son's, Batman agrees to help Barry rewrite the timeline, which they believe has been altered by the Reverse-Flash Eobard Thawne the first step of which is recreating the accident that gave Allen his powers and turned him into the Flash. Thomas created a device that would recreate the accident that created the Flash, the first attempt was a failure leaving Barry badly burnt. (Flashpoint v2 #2) However, Allen survived and took part in one more attempt at recreating the accident where on this occasion the procedure proved successful and Barry became the Flash once again. (Flashpoint v2 #3)

In the aftermath, Batman was called by Chief Gordon, who tried to convince him that he did not have to fight villains by himself, however Batman refused. Later, Batman was shocked that the Joker had footage of his friend James Gordon being killed. She tricked Chief Gordon into shooting Dent's daughter by taping her mouth shut and disguising her as the Joker. Before Batman confronted her, she slashed Gordon's throat. After Gordon's murder, Batman showed up to face his ex-wife. (Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance v1 #2) Batman told her he had discovered a way to rewrite history so Bruce was never killed. He told her about Barry Allen and how he helped him restore his powers. Martha with this knowledge was so shocked to learn the hardships her son would go through, and ran to her death off a cliff near Wayne Manor. (Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance v1 #3)

Thomas worked with the Barry to recruit a team to alter the Reverse-Flash changes to the timeline. Batman contacted Cyborg in an attempt to find Project Superman, the government branch responsible for raising an alien Kal-El who was supposedly the most powerful being on the planet. When they found him, all they saw was a pale skinny man but when he was exposed to sunlight, his powers activated and he flew away. (Flashpoint v2 #3) The group of heroes escaped the facility with the help of Element Woman, but Barry's memories began to change and Thomas was forced to inject him with a drug which slowed down his brain processing. The heroes headed to Fawcett City to find the team known as S.H.A.Z.A.M. a group of teenagers who could combine their powers to become Captain Thunder. Using the powers of Billy Batson they are able to slow down the effects of the combination of the Speed Force and the altered timeline itself on Barry's brain. The team decide to stop the war between Wonder Woman and Aquaman, because there is no guarantee that they would win against Professor Zoom. Thomas reluctantly agrees and the heroes head for New Themyscira in the Batplane, they also recruit Enchantress for the mission. Wonder Woman and Emperor Aquaman are locked in battle when the team arrive. (Flashpoint v2 #4) Batman stabs Professor Zoom in the back with a sword and while Professor Zoom gloats that Barry had created the timeline, not Zoom. The Flash did this when he attempted to go back in time save his mother, but Batman is fatally wounded by the Enchantress, who was in truth an Amazonian spy. Before the Flash can run to the past in an attempt to stop his younger self from altering the timeline, Thomas, realizing what Flash was planning to do after despite learning his inadvertent role, thanks him for all he has done and gives the Barry a letter addressed to his son, and accepts his fate. After Barry apparently restores the timeline to an approximation of its prior self, he visits Bruce Wayne and gives him a letter from his father, and told him he could not of done it without his help. Bruce is deeply touched that his father has sacrificed his existence for him. (Flashpoint v2 #5)

It was revealed that Batman has access to a larger computer, very similar to the one used by Bruce Wayne which is usually found in the Batcave. However this large computer was not found in the Batcave under Wayne Manor, but elsewhere in a unknown location. In fact, the Batcave in Wayne Manor was very spartan in nature, containing a few tables, and upstairs a single desktop basic PC computer system.

Alternate Versions

Earth-2 Thomas Wayne in Earth-2 v1 #17.
  • In Earth 2 Annual v1 #1 (2013), an alternate version of Thomas Wayne appeared in the new Earth-2 reality of the reborn Multiverse. Thomas Wayne survived the mugging by Joe Chill. Unbeknownst to his son Bruce, Thomas, while still in medical school in 1979, developed connections to the Falcone crime family after he saved Frankie Falcone from a gunshot wound. Falcone insisted on showing his gratitude to Thomas by introducing him to the wild lifestyle of partying and drugs the Falcones' wealth enabled. Frankie even introduced him to his eventual wife, Martha. After a period of wild partying, fueled in part by drugs Thomas was able to obtain as a doctor, the partying ended when Martha gave birth to Bruce. Martha herself insisted Thomas sever all ties to Falcone. When Thomas did he made it clear that whatever dirt Frankie had on Thomas was nothing to what, vice versa, Thomas had on Frankie. In response, Falcone had his thugs attack Thomas, who was saved by Jarvis Pennyworth. Still panicked, Falcone hired Joe Chill to murder the Waynes. While Martha was indeed killed, Thomas, with help from Dr. Leslie Thompkins, survived and was declared clinically dead. He dropped off the grid and stole the drug Miraclo from his colleague, Rex Tyler. In the 1990s, Thomas returned, and systematically killed Chill, the three thugs in Falcone's employ, and finally Frankie Falcone himself. While investigating these crimes, Bruce, now the Batman, discovered that Thomas was alive, and after a heated confrontation wherein Bruce learned the whole truth about his father's sordid past, and disowned Thomas.
