Biography

Tanya Spears in Teen Titans v5 #5.

Tanya Spears was a female human born the daughter of scientist Somya Spears. (Worlds' Finest v1 #24)

At 17 years old, she was already a postdoc fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she came to work at Starr Industries. (Worlds' Finest v1 #24)

At Cambridge, Massachusetts the Starr Industries lab was tasked with recreating the technology to travel to alter versions of Earth. In this time, the company's CEO Karen Starr began to openly reveal that she had superpowers. With the remnants of the company, she tasked the remaining research staff with the goal of helping Starr return to her Earth as part of Project Dorothy. Learning she was the hero Power Girl, the staff agreed and went about their new assignment. On her way home, she was approached by the New God Desaad who tried to corrupt her but she rejected his offers. It was then she was taken hostage by a criminal looking to evade Huntress Helena Wayne. (Worlds' Finest v1 #23) She tried to get away from her kidnapper but was shot in the shoulder during the attempt. She was ultimately saved by Huntress and aided the vigilante in retrieving stolen isotopes that was in the kidnappers possession. (Worlds' Finest v1 #24) At Starr Industries, she was with Gerhard as they were building the portal only to be attacked by Desaad who targeted Spears. They were saved though by the timely arrival of Power Girl and Huntress who fought the villain from Apokolips. Tanya was told to activate the portal whilst the two heroes went through. (Worlds' Finest v1 #25) After Power Girl and Huntress traveled through the portal back to Earth 2, Tanya suddenly displayed super powers, as well as an improved physique. She was unsure how she got them, and posited it was because of her proximity to the portal when it collapsed. Going to M.I.T., she had tests conducted on her altered body by Professor Romberger which was when she was contacted by a law firm who revealed that Karen Starr had gifted her entire company and fortune to Tanya Spears. (Worlds' Finest v1 #26)

Later on, she was in Manhattan when she joined the Wonder Girl Fan Club and met the hero's mother Helena Sandsmark. At the time, a group of teenagers had discovered a drug that gave them superpowers and used them to operate as villains attacking everything around them. They came to be opposed by the Teen Titans who were in the area and looked to stop them. Tanya was with Helena Sandsmark when one of the superpowered teens through a vehicle with the intention of killing Wonder Girl's mother. Spears came to push Helena out of the way and used her own powers to lift truck off herself. (Teen Titans v5 #5) She then assisted the Titans in dealing with the superpowered teenage thugs. Afterwards, she joined the Teen Titans at their headquarters where she explained her past to them. It was then she told the Teen Titans that they were not being proactive as superheroes as they were simply reacting to small battles instead of fighting the larger war. Her words resonated with Cassie Sandsmark with the two later discussing on what they could do to make an impact in the world. During this time, they were met by S.T.A.R. Labs representative Manchester Black who explained that a group had taken a dangerous device from the company that could lead to the death of hundreds of people. (Teen Titans v5 #6) Arriving at Titans Tower alongside Beast Boy, Raven, Wonder Girl, Red Robin, and Bunker. She responded to an emergency strike on the city that required immediate superhuman support. During a rooftop confrontation with a band of armored mercenary drones, she revealed her ability to lift massive debris effortlessly—tearing through concrete slabs and hurling them aside to clear civilians’ escape routes. Although new to fieldwork, she acted with scientific precision: analyzing structural weaknesses, coordinating with Red Robin on positioning, and using her strength selectively to avoid unnecessary destruction. When the drones malfunctioned and began detonating, she caught falling debris in midair and used it to shield her teammates. Her debut marked her as both a tactical thinker and a powerhouse field asset. (Teen Titans v5 #7)

The Titans investigated a series of targeted attacks on microchip factories. Tanya contributed her technical acumen by scanning salvageable forensic data from ruined terminals. During a night‑time assault, she flew into the sky and carried multiple trapped civilians to safety from a collapsing overpass. She then intervened in aerial drones’ trajectory, creating enough force with her body to redirect them into open water where they detonated harmlessly. She worked alongside Raven to contain energy surges from compromised power grids, using brute strength to stabilize metal conduits before backup arrived. Her contributions impressed the team: as she landed, she calculated structural damage percentages aloud. (Teen Titans v5 #8) Afterwards, the team clashed with The Elite, a militaristic group led by Manchester Black. Tanya fought directly against them in Metropolis. She restrained Manchester Black by catching him mid-launch with ease and hurling him into the harbor. When attacked by Doctor Psycho’s mind illusions, she protected all nearby teammates by raising her arms and creating a kinetic field of invulnerability around them—not a full power manifestation but intuitive physical shielding. She also reacted swiftly when Psimon attempted to disrupt the battle orders telepathically: she intercepted him physically, tackling him to the ground before damage spread. Her presence helped force a standoff, allowing the Titans to regain strategic control. (Teen Titans v5 #9)

Tanya Spears tried to free the original Power Girl using an etheric transponder that allowed her to travel there in an incorporeal state. However, her physical body was disconnected from the machine by an unaware Kid Flash Wallace West causing both women to remain trapped as a result. (Deathstroke Annual v4 #1)
