History

Earth-2

Superman's Costume was a suit that came to be worn by the superhero Superman.

Earth-1

Post-Crisis

Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

The underlying material construction of the costume transitioned into an Earth-based fabric variant following a massive temporal reality reboot that completely altered the asset's structural nature. In this revised timeline, Martha Kent manufactured the uniform out of standard, highly flexible terrestrial spandex and cotton blends available to ordinary surface citizens. The material asset was engineered without any inherent molecular durability. Instead, the tight-fitting skinsuit base relied entirely on an external, invisible bio-electric aura radiated directly from Superman's own cellular structure. The asset successfully absorbed the kinetic impact of high-yield bullet strikes and extreme explosive heat by staying inside this protective energetic field, though the garment would instantly rip and shred if it was pulled past the aura's tight boundary. (The Man of Steel v1 #1)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

The standard cloth uniform configuration was entirely replaced by a highly advanced, mechanized variant classified as the Kryptonian Battle Armor during a subsequent planetary timeline realignment. While investigating a buried Kryptonian archaeological cache inside a secure facility, Superman recovered a small, inactive metallic disk containing a dormant nanotechnological network. Upon recognizing his specific House of El DNA, the device activated its hardcoded materialization protocols. The mechanical asset dissolved into a fluid metallic mass that rushed over his body, seamlessly locking into a form-fitting blue and red protective shell with segmented plate grooves. The armored asset was engineered to automatically clean itself and dynamically adjust its external configuration based on his combat telemetry. (Action Comics v2 #7)
