Biography

Origin

Strong Guy in Uncanny X-Men v1 #278.

Guido Carosella was a male human Mutant born to a family that watched every penny they had spent. They lived a very strict life, saving as much as they could, and they tried to teach Guido to appreciate this way of life, but he didn't pay attention, preferring to goof around. (X-Factor v1 #72)

He was very successful academically when he was younger, but he did not fit in with the other kids, so he tried to be the class clown to win their approval, namely of a young girl named Sheila McCann. One day, Sheila winked at him, and Guido tried to start a conversation with her, but her boyfriend and his friends beat Guido up. As he fell to the floor, his mutant genes became active and his arm grew to enormous proportions due to his new energy absorption powers. In pain and confusion, he then stumbled in front of the school bus. The impact caused his body to distort permanently. Before long, he realized that the energy he absorbed had to be released immediately to avoid deformities. (X-Factor v1 #89)

One day after school, Guido awkwardly tried to flirt with his 'big crush', Sheila McCann, and ended up lying flat on the sidewalk thanks to her boyfriend. All the abuse up to this point finally made Carosella snap, and he lunged at his tormenter. This only led to a mob of the tougher boys ganging up on him, and at this exact moment his mutant power decided to kick in. All the kinetic energy from the beating was processed into sheer power to increase his musculature, expanding his right arm into a grotesquely large shape. In a panic, Guido stumbled out in front of a school bus, absorbing even greater amounts of energy, which warped his body even further. Even worse, Charlie witnessed these events and realized Guido was a mutant, just like the man who killed his parents a few years earlier. Charlie snapped and began beating Guido with a rock, screaming about how all his kind was 'evil'. Half-blind with pain, Guido lashed out without realizing it and left Charlie with a limp for the rest of his life. All this kinetic activity flowing through his system overloaded Carosella's mutant ability -- his power was designed to only hold on to kinetic energy for brief periods before releasing it, and the fact that he had not done so left Guido horribly disfigured. He would be in constant pain for the rest of his life, and his upper body muscle structure was abnormally and permanently 'supersized'. (X-Factor Annual v1 #8)

X-Factor

Strong Guy in X-Factor v1 #135.

His life shifted dramatically when he was recruited by the Valerie Cooper to join a newly reorganized, federally sanctioned incarnation of X-Factor. Operating as the team's primary physical powerhouse, Guido was immediately thrust into a high-stakes, international crisis in Washington, D.C., where a hostile group of armored mutant terrorists known as the Nasty Boys launched a coordinated assault against the government. Forced to step into the public eye to defend his teammates and protect innocent civilians, Guido fully embraced his heroic identity, using his massive physical capabilities to combat the terrorist threat and establishing himself as a key member of the government-sponsored hero faction. Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Guido Carosella was an exceptionally massive Caucasian male who possessed a remarkably thick, towering, and uniquely distorted physical build. Due to his underlying metahuman physiology, his upper frame was drastically overdeveloped, presenting a colossally broad chest, giant shoulders, and disproportionately thick arms that tapered down into a much narrower waist and slender legs. He was completely bald, with a narrow strip of dark hair running along the sides of his head, and he wore a pair of small, signature dark spectacles that rested on his face to correct his vision. Eschewing traditional spandex uniforms, capes, or colorful superhero markings, he dressed in practical, formal civilian attire suitable for his high-profile security work, consisting of a simple dark vest worn over a light-colored dress shirt and casual trousers. (New Mutants v1 #29)

Powers and abilities

Guido Carosella possessed an extraordinary level of baseline human physical durability and strength achieved entirely through his unique kinetic-absorption mutation. He exhibited a disproportionately dense and heavily muscled upper skeletal frame that allowed his body to act as a physical buffer for massive quantities of external force and kinetic impact without sustaining injuries. This dense biological makeup granted him the brute force required to easily manage rowdy crowds, lift heavy equipment, and stand as an immovable physical barrier against potential security threats to protect his clients. Furthermore, because his massive upper-body strength was permanently anchored by his altered muscle tissue, he could effortlessly overpower ordinary human adversaries in hand-to-hand combat using standard physical restraint techniques and raw, blunt-force leverage.
