Overview

Personality and attributes

Mullein in Far Sector v1 #2.

In appearance, Sojourner Mullein was a Black woman with a striking and authoritative presence that blended cosmic power with a sharp, modern aesthetic. She possessed a slender yet athletic build, conveying both agility and strength. Her face was framed by hair styled in a high, voluminous afro that added to her commanding silhouette. Her most distinctive feature was her eyewear, a glowing green, wing-like visor that flared out past her temples, replacing the traditional Green Lantern mask. She wore a unique uniform that broke from standard Corps attire, consisting of a high-collared, sleeveless white tunic featuring a bold green lantern emblem on the chest. This was paired with dark, form-fitting trousers and long green gauntlets that reached her biceps. Over her shoulders, she frequently wore a long black trench coat that billowed behind her, giving her the appearance of a futuristic detective or a sovereign protector. (Far Sector v1 #1)

She demonstrated a composed and deeply analytical mindset, approaching her role as a cosmic peacekeeper with the skeptical eye of a seasoned investigator. She carried herself with a dry, pragmatic wit, often reflecting on the absurdity of her situation while remaining focused on the logical nuances of the case at hand. Despite being millions of light-years from Earth, she remained unflappable in the face of alien customs, preferring to observe and gather evidence rather than jumping into reckless action. Her inner monologue revealed a woman who was intellectually restless and somewhat cynical, yet she maintained a firm sense of professional duty and a desire to see justice served in a world that claimed to have moved beyond emotion. This disciplined approach allowed her to navigate the complex political tensions of the City Enduring without losing her own sense of identity or purpose. (Far Sector v1 #1)

Mullein had a profound sense of isolation and a self-aware, outsider perspective that defined her interaction with the City Enduring. She frequently engaged in a cynical internal monologue, reflecting on her status as a lone human deputy in a distant galaxy where she felt more like a political pawn than a traditional hero. This loneliness was tempered by a strong moral compass and an underlying empathy, as she showed a genuine concern for the victims of the city's first murder in five hundred years, despite the coldness of the local authorities. She possessed a challenging attitude toward authority, often questioning the rigid social structures and the 'emotion exploit' that governed the alien citizens. Even while feeling like a stranger in a strange land, she maintained a persistent resilience, refusing to let her status as an 'experiment' diminish her commitment to uncovering the truth behind the city’s brewing unrest. Powers and abilities

Jo used to be a member of the military and therefore had acquired deep knowledge of military protocols. She had graduated the military academy and served as a police officer for some time before becoming a Green Lantern. (DC Power: A Celebration v1 #1)

Mullein wielded the power of a unique Green Lantern ring that operated differently from the standard models, functioning as a tool for both manifestation and investigation. She utilised the ring to create vivid hard-light constructs, such as a glowing green umbrella to shield herself from the elements or digital-like displays to process complex data. Her abilities extended to flight and the generation of protective force fields, allowing her to navigate the vast, multi-layered environments of the City Enduring with ease. Beyond physical combat, the ring served as a high-tech forensic suite, scanning crime scenes and projecting holographic reconstructions of events to aid her detective work. Crucially, it was established that her ring did not require a traditional power battery for frequent recharging; instead, it self-charged over time, though this came at the cost of a lower overall power output compared to her peers.
