Biography
Siebren de Kuiper was a male human born in the modern age where by adulthood he was considered a pioneer in his field. His life's work involved devising a way to harness the power of gravity. Equally known for his groundbreaking research and eccentric personality, he conducted most of his studies from his lab in the Hague. At some point he visited his good friend Dr. Harold Winston on the Horizon Lunar Colony. Winston showed him one of the gorilla test subjects. At some point, he came to have lunch with Dr. Angela Ziegler after a seminar. Decades of study and research led De Kuiper to the belief that 'gravity was a harness'. If the unifying theories were correct, through his work mankind would soon even be able to command nature's most potent expression of gravity, a black hole, and it would change everything forever. Believing that he was close to achieving his goal, he performed his most important experiment on the International Space Station. However, something went terribly wrong. The field containing the experiment began to fail; as De Kuiper desperately tried to figure out why it was happening and how to stop it, the brief formation of a black hole was triggered. Screaming, De Kuiper was only exposed to its power for a moment, but he suffered serious psychological damage. The area around him began to experience strange fluctuations in gravity, peaking and dropping in time with his reactions where he had to be evacuated immediately. Between his ravings about the patterns of the universe, the psychic damage he sustained, the gravitic anomalies happening around him, and concerns for his mental wellbeing, he was deemed a danger to himself and others and detained for years under the name Subject Sigma, with himself and his inexplicable abilities being researched. Isolated and unable to control his powers, De Kuiper retreated into his own mind. He thought he would never see the outside world again.
When Talon discovered De Kuiper's existence, they infiltrated the facility and broke him out, planning to use his brilliance and research to further their plans. In their custody, De Kuiper slowly gained control of his powers. Now, gravity moved according to his will, and he was closer than ever to achieving his life's goal. But the same experiment that had opened his mind had also fractured it, and he struggled to keep the pieces together. De Kuiper continued to develop his powers in hopes of unlocking the secrets of the universe, unaware that Talon was using both him and his research. He spent most of his time working off-site in a lab Talon granted to him. In his mind, he did not consider himself a prisoner, and Talon provided everything he needed. At some point, Sigma was in Paris where he saw Widowmaker at Luna's cabaret.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Sigma was a towering and formidable figure stood well over seven feet tall His silhouette was defined by a massive, custom-engineered suit of experimental combat armour—a patchwork of heavy, teal-tinted plating and exposed mechanical conduits that hummed with a low, rhythmic vibration. The most striking feature of his attire was the absence of footwear; his bare feet hovered perpetually over the earth, a silent testament to the devastating orbital accident that had fractured his psyche and granted him mastery over the fundamental forces of the universe. His face, though etched with the weary lines of a man in his mid-sixties and framed by thinning, slicked-back grey hair, possessed a sharp, intellectual intensity that could shift in a heartbeat from scholarly curiosity to a hollow, wide-eyed vacancy. Around him, the air itself seemed to ripple and distort, as if the gravity he manipulated was bleeding into his immediate surroundings, accompanied by the faint, ghostly melody of a piano that only he seemed to hear. He often carried two kinetic grasp spheres that pulsed with a volatile violet energy, matching the glowing core at the centre of his chest. After the accident, he was locked away over fears that his powers were a danger to himself and others where he was given the code name Subject Sigma.
Sigma’s personality was a turbulent ocean of profound intellectual brilliance and tragic, fragmented confusion. He had once been a man of singular focus—a world-renowned astrophysicist whose obsession with the secrets of the universe was matched only by his kindness and enthusiasm for discovery—but the accident on the space station had shattered the linear progression of his thoughts. He existed in a state of perpetual duality, often appearing as a gentle, soft-spoken scholar who would marvel at the complexity of a simple flower or the mathematics of a falling leaf. However, this scholarly warmth was frequently eclipsed by a cold, detached intensity when the 'melody' in his mind grew too loud, causing him to become erratic and dangerously unpredictable. He viewed the world through a lens of grand-scale physics, often speaking in riddles about the 'singularity' or the 'harnessing of the harness', as if he were observing a reality several dimensions removed from those around him. Despite his role as a living weapon for Talon, there remained a haunting sense of innocence within him; he was less a villain and more a lost soul, a brilliant mind trapped in a cage of his own immense power, forever searching for the harmony in a universe that sounded to him like discordant noise.
De Kuiper came to be mentally damaged as a result of the accident. He saw the universe, gravity, and physics all through the same 'prism' where he imagined them being akin to music.
Isolated and unable to control his powers, De Kuiper retreated into his own mind. He thought he would never see the outside world again.
Talon came to manipulate him to achieve their own goals.
Powers and abilities
Originally, Dr. De Kuiper was an ordinary human with no inherent powers or abilities. He did possess a keen intellect and was a brilliant astrophysicist with a particular emphasis on black holes and gravity.
Following his transformation, he came to be considered a living weapon whose presence on the field could not be ignored.
After being freed from the mental institution, he came to join the ranks of the Talon organization who provided him the resources to continue his research.
