Biography

Scream was a Symbiote that was born from Venom when he was bonded to Eddie Brock on Earth. During this time, Venom was targeted by the Life Foundation who were looking to create superpowered agents similar to him. They came to learn that the Symbiote was capable of reproducing with this previously having resulted in the creation of Carnage. Thus, they captured Eddie Brock and conducted experiments to forcibly remove the Symbiote seeds within Venom where one was matured and bonded to one of their operatives who became Scream. After bonding to a woman, the Scream Symbiote was then deployed to near Salinas where she attacked the people in the area as the host became accustomed to her new powers. It was then that she was confronted by Spider-Man who battled her and Scream was forced to flee by throwing a passer-by to distract the Wall-Crawler. She then returned to the Life Foundation headquarters but unknown to her she was followed by Spider-Man. (Venom Lethal Protector v1 #4)

Scream’s instability became more dangerous as she turned against her own kind. Believing that the symbiotes were inherently evil and could only bring ruin, Donna was driven to a murderous crusade. She began systematically hunting down and killing other symbiote hosts, convincing herself that she was performing an act of mercy by ending their lives before the alien influence could consume them. This blood-soaked path revealed the depths of her madness, as her actions were not born of clarity but of her fractured psyche. Her rampage highlighted both the destructive potential of her power and the tragic collapse of her humanity under the weight of the symbiote’s influence. (Venom: Separation Anxiety v1 #4)

When Eddie Brock started his hunt for symbiotes, he killed Donna after Hybrid. Brock lead Scream to a trap, where using a sonic emitter, he paralyzed her and stabbed her in the head many times with a heated dagger. (Venom v2 #15)

Years later, Scream was resurrected by Knull, still bonded to Donna's corpse. However, when Patricia Robertson attacked, Scream abandoned Donna's skeleton, leaving her totally lifeless once again. Patricia Robertson came across the resurrected Scream and a group of four-armed symbiote monsters devouring civilians, and attacked them - taken aback to discover that Scream was bonded to a corpse. Trish was overwhelmed and the Scream symbiote bonded to her, the two succumbing to the dark god Knull's control. Taken over by Scream, Trish hunted down and attacked Andi Benton — who she bore a grudge against for having "stolen" and lost her original symbiote. (Absolute Carnage: Scream v1 #1) After gaining control of herself, Patricia attempted to save lives caught in the middle of Carnage's plan alongside Andi. (Absolute Carnage: Scream v1 #2) Carnage's later arrival caused her to lose control once more of the Scream Symbiote. She only managed to regain control of herself in order to defend Andi from Carnage, sacrificing her life in the process as Carnage impaled and killed her. The symbiote left Patricia's body and bonded with Andi, saving her from near-death and enabling her to escape. The Scream symbiote separated from Patricia's corpse and bonded to Andi. Recognizing that even with her new symbiote and the Hell Mark she couldn't defeat Carnage, Scream fled but was quickly recruited by Cloak to help turn the tide against Carnage's horde. (Absolute Carnage: Scream v1 #3)

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Scream was a symbiote-empowered human with a striking and monstrous form. Her body was enveloped in a living costume of yellow symbiote matter streaked with jagged red patterns, which rippled and shifted with her moods. Her most distinctive feature was her mane of flowing, tendril-like hair composed entirely of symbiote mass, which extended outward like living whips. Her eyes were monstrous white patches with no pupils, and her gaping, jagged-toothed mouth echoed the horrific visage of Venom. The combination of her feral features and vibrant coloration gave her a nightmarish beauty that set her apart even among other symbiotes. (Venom Lethal Protector v1 #4)

In personality, Donna’s union with the symbiote created a volatile and fractured being. She embodied traits of paranoia, self-righteousness, and violent obsession. At times, she was charismatic and commanding, especially in her leadership role over the other Life Foundation symbiotes, but this quickly gave way to erratic decisions and violent outbursts. Her sense of morality was twisted by trauma and the symbiote’s influence, leading her to believe she was carrying out justice even as she slaughtered innocents. Her obsession with purging the symbiotes, while driven by her belief in their corruption, revealed her instability and inability to distinguish between righteousness and madness. (Venom: Separation Anxiety v1 #4)

Powers and abilities

Scream was a symbiote host empowered by an extraterrestrial organism genetically descended from Venom. This union granted her superhuman strength, agility, reflexes, and durability, enabling her to fight on par with Spider-Man and other enhanced beings. Like her progenitor, Scream possessed a mutable form, able to shape her symbiote mass into weapons such as whips, spears, and restraining tendrils. Her most unique feature was her living hair of symbiote tendrils, which acted as extensions of her body, allowing her to attack and restrain multiple enemies at once. Despite these gifts, the symbiote also amplified Donna’s instability, binding her power to the fragility of her fractured mind. (Venom: Lethal Protector v1 #4)

Similar to Venom, the Scream Symbiote did not trigger Spider-Man's spider-sense. (Venom Lethal Protector v1 #4)

The Scream enhanced the hosts endurance and allowed it to absorb powerful superhuman blows. (Venom Lethal Protector v1 #4)

It was said that the Scream Symbiote was extremely fast. (Venom Lethal Protector v1 #4)

Typically, Scream manifested lush and long overflowing hair that they could use offensively such as grabbing onto a person and throwing them at high speeds at a target. (Venom Lethal Protector v1 #4)
