Saul is a male comic character that features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

Garbha-Hsien was a male Mutant that was one of the Externals that were near immortal beings that had lived for centuries. By the 12th century, he was in Mongolia where he had discovered a large planet-bound vessel called Ship built by the Celestials but was unable to enter the craft. Around this time, the Egyptian Mutant named En Sabah Nur had arrived and had slain hordes of Mongols. Upon meeting Garbha-Hsien, he became intrigued at Ship and stabbed the External where he left him for dead whilst he himself entered Ship. Despite the fatal strike, Garbha-Hsien survived and continued to operate in the world with him taking the name Saul. (X-Force v1 #37) Many centuries ago, Garbha-hsien ruled the lands of the Hopeh Province in China with anyone that lived in the shadows of the Wu-tai Shan range being subjected to his rule. During his reign, he was noted to had fathered twelve children with temples being made for each of them. Inside each temple contained bits and pieces of information of he ancient ship that Garbha-hsien had discovered long ago. Such information was also included in the temple for his twelfth and final child. It was said that he had lived for a thousand years before vanishing. (Gambit v3 #1)

Overview

Personality and attributes

As an ancient warlord, he was noted for being a kind figure but that other figures were worse than him. Garbha-hsien was recognized as a visionary and as a savage. (Gambit v3 #1)

Over his long existence, he claimed that he had learnt that there were always people out there that were worse than ones self. (X-Force v1 #37)

  • Saul was created by Rob Liefeld, Fabian Nicieza and Mark Pacella where he made his first appearance in X-Force v1 #10 (May, 1992).

  • In X-Men, Saul made a brief cameo non-voiced appearance in the 1990's animated series in the episode "Sanctuary, Part 2". He along with Gideon were watching Fabian Cortez's broadcast to the world from Asteroid M after the apparent death of Magneto.
