Biography
Makoto Kino (Japanese: 木野 まこと, Hepburn: Kino Makoto)
Makoto was an only child who lived with her parents until one fateful day when her parents died in a plane crash, leading her to develop a fear of airplanes. She would learn how to take care of herself and develop impressive cooking skills in the process. Makoto would grow to be a very tall girl for her age with impressive strength for her gender, leading most to assume she was a delinquent and avoid her. One day, Makoto tried to confess her feelings to a boy she liked, but he rejected her. She would later transfer schools, partly because of heartache, but also because she felt a greater purpose calling her elsewhere.
Makoto Kino first manifested her role as a Guardian when she transferred to Juban Public Middle School and immediately used her immense physical strength to pull Usagi Tsukino out of the path of a speeding car. Shortly after, she encountered a deceptive bridal shop employee who was actually a shadow of the commander Nephrite; upon realizing the trap, she awakened her latent memories and transformed into Sailor Jupiter. In this first combat engagement, she utilized a Flower Hurricane to disorient her opponent before summoning a massive bolt of lightning through her tiara’s lightning rod to incinerate the enemy. Following her awakening, she joined the other Guardians in a confrontation against Zoisite, where she demanded the return of stolen life energy and attempted to physically subdue the commander. As the conflict intensified, she frequently spearheaded the team’s offensive maneuvers, combining her Supreme Thunder with the elemental powers of her comrades to create large-scale energy discharges aimed at the Dark Kingdom’s leadership. During a high-stakes battle on a skyscraper, she acted as a primary shield, using her body and her lightning to deflect projectiles that threatened her allies. When the group faced the powerful General Kunzite, she led the charge by channelling her electricity into the surrounding environment to reveal the enemy's cloaked position. In the chaotic aftermath of the Princess's revelation, she remained at the forefront of the defensive line, physically grappling with monsters and holding her ground against dark energy blasts to ensure the safety of the lunar royalty. Throughout these five encounters, she consistently functioned as the team's physical vanguard, relying on a combination of hand-to-hand martial arts and celestial electricity to repel the forces of the Dark Kingdom.
Makoto falls under the influence of a mysterious illness spreading around Tokyo. After being escorted home by Ittou Asanuma she reveals her identity as a Sailor Senshi before fainting from exhaustion. Makoto is then attacked by a Droid Petz created. She transforms and battles Petz but finds herself unable to overpower Petz's attack as she's using the Dark Crystal to amplify her powers. Makoto is then kidnapped by Rubeus and held hostage on Nemesis until Sailor Moon rescues the group.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Makoto Kino was a teenage girl with fair skin and a slim complexion, though she was slightly more muscular than most of her fellow Sailor Guardians. She had big emerald green eyes, long reddish brown wavy hair that she usually keeps tied up by a ponytail holder with two green balls, and is almost always shown wearing pink rose earrings. She is also the tallest out of the Inner Sailor Guardians.
Powers and abilities
Makoto can transform into Sailor Jupiter by saying "Jupiter Power, Make Up!", increasing her already high combat powers with attacks centered around lightning and nature.
She had at her possession a number of techniques that included:
- Jupiter Thunderbolt (ジュピター・サンダーボルト, Jupitaa Sandaaboruto) : calling upon the planet Jupiter, Makoto was able to bring down an incredibly powerful thunderstorm that was collected from the sky using the antenna on her tiara. It then manifested in her hands and she hurled the huge bolt of white electricity at her target.
- Supreme Thunder (シュープリーム・サンダ, Shūpurīmu Sandā) : using her tiara, electricity was collected from the atmosphere whereupon Sailor Jupiter propelled it as lightning towards her target.
