Santo Vaccarro
Jean Grey School
House of X
When Krakoa was declared a sovereign nation, the living island was declared as the new homeland for all Mutants. Rockslide was among those who relocated to its surface where he participated in the celebration of the formation of the new country. (House of X v1 #6)
Upon returning to Krakoa, Polaris requested the use of the Resurrection Protocols to bring back the recently deceased which included Rockslide. The Five then began the resurrection ritual but then the X-Men experienced a problem with he protocol that stemmed with Santos's death in Otherworld. The multiversal nature of that realm affected the Resurrection Protocols resulting in Rockslide's stored mental processes being overwritten in the cradles. As a result, a new being was brought back through the Protocols causing it to go briefly offline until the eggs grown by the Five were destroyed. As a result, the people of Krakoa experienced their first true death of personality as the Santos known to them was gone forever with a new being called Rockslide taking his place. (X-Factor v4 #4)
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Santo Vaccarro was an exceptionally imposing, massive youth who stood well over seven feet tall and possessed a uniquely monstrous, top-heavy physical frame composed entirely of inorganic stone. Due to his unique mutant physiology, his baseline human body was completely replaced by a colossally broad, craggy torso, giant rocky shoulders, and disproportionately thick stone arms that tapered down into a narrower waist and shorter, blocky legs. His chiseled, rock-hewn facial features lacked human hair, ears, or a traditional nose, presenting a fierce, stone-jawed countenance highlighted by a pair of featureless, glowing red eyes. Upon joining the academy's competitive training program, he wore a custom Hellions squad uniform consisting of a vibrant purple and dark grey sleeveless athletic tunic that stretched across his massive stone chest, accented by a prominent, stylized pink chevron emblem emblazoned over his heart. (New Mutants v2 #3)
It was noted that he was a fan of television shows like Murder Who She Wrote and Medium. (New X-Men v2 #28)
Powers and abilities
Santo Vaccarro possessed an extraordinary level of superhuman physical capability and unique elemental traits derived entirely from his status as a living golem composed of solid granite. He exhibited a baseline level of immense superhuman strength and total physical durability that allowed him to effortlessly trade blunt-force blows with heavy machinery, smash through fortified concrete structures, and withstand high-caliber kinetic impacts without suffering fractures. His unique crystalline biology also allowed him to completely detach his stony extremities to use as high-velocity blunt weapons, or violently detonate his entire rocky torso outward to blast multiple opponents back with shrapnel before instantly pulling his scattered granite pieces back together. Furthermore, because his consciousness was fundamentally tied to a psionic life force rather than a flesh-and-blood brain, he was entirely immune to standard biological fatigue and could seamlessly regenerate his massive stone form even after being completely pulverized. (New Mutants v2 #3)
