Biography
Ricardo Salazar was a male human born as the second son born of Rafael Salazar and Violeta Salazar who had him when they were living in Geneva, Switzerland with him having older brother named Caesar Salazar. The young Rex's parents and older brother were all brilliant scientists who had travelled all over the world before he had been born. When he was 12 years old, Rex spent every summer in a small South American town where he played with his best friend Federico. Around this time, his parents and brother were working on the Nanite Project with Rex getting injured during an industrial accident. This led to a dispute among many scientists over the use of the nanites with his family and Gabriel Rylander deciding to inject an original batch of fully programmed nanites into Rex in order to save his life. Such a move was also done so in the hope of convincing the other scientists of the potential benefits posed by the nanites. The operation was a success with Rex being saved and gaining new abilities from the nanites. Afterwards, the Nanite Event occurred which resulted a large explosion that killed Rex's parents and dispersed the nanites around the world.
Salazar operated as an amnesiac teenager working for the global military organization Providence, battling and curing rampaging Exponentially Variegated Organisms (E.V.O.s) infected by microscopic nanites. In his initial major public operation, Rex deployed into a city to fight a massive, multi-faced E.V.O., utilizing his mechanical constructs during the battle before successfully curing the creature back into a human, though the ensuing chaos caused substantial localized destruction. Frustrated by his rigid confinement and treatment at the Providence base, Rex snuck out alongside his E.V.O. chimpanzee companion Bobo Haha to visit a local basketball court, where he met and befriended an ordinary teenager named Noah. Their outing was interrupted by members of The Pack, who ambushed and transported Rex, Bobo, and Noah through a portal into the E.V.O.-dominated territory of Abysus. There, they confronted Van Kleiss, who claimed a prior connection to Rex and attempted to drain Rex's fresh nanites to sustain his own deteriorating form. Agent Six arrived to assist, allowing Rex and his companions to escape back to Providence headquarters, where Rex received improved living quarters while Noah was secretly assigned by White Knight to monitor him. Rex was then deployed to a localized Mexican village alongside Agent Six to neutralize a rampaging, humanoid cactus Exponentially Variegated Organism. His lethal tactical intentions were halted when a young village boy emotionally intervened to reveal the monster was actually the community's local priest, Father Jose. Moved by the child's pleas, Rex Salazar shifted his strategy, utilizing his shapeshifting mechanical builds to tunnel beneath the creature and successfully extract its rogue nanites, fully curing the human host. Following a brief civilian excursion into town to seek personal guidance from Noah Nixon regarding his public perception, he was recalled to Providence headquarters by Agent Six for an immediate briefing with Dr. Rebecca Holiday. The medical staff detailed an escalating biological crisis in lower Manhattan where a newly transformed subject, Peter Meechum, had grown an external brain and four arachnid appendages, utilizing an invasive chemical secretion to assume total neural dominance over eleven million local citizens, including Bobo Haha. Rex Salazar traveled to the quarantine zone under strict orders from White Knight, who prepared to execute a nuclear Bleach Protocol to completely obliterate the entire infected island. Navigating through the zombie-like civilian populace, Rex Salazar intercepted Peter Meechum, only to discover the mutated father was being actively coerced by the villainous Van Kleiss, who had kidnapped the man's daughter, Sarah Meechum, to leverage total compliance. While Noah Nixon successfully orchestrated a clandestine rescue of the hostage from the villain's tactical vanguard, Rex Salazar engaged the arachnid entity, offering a solemn personal guarantee to ensure his daughter's safety. This emotional negotiation convinced Peter Meechum to voluntarily yield to the medical procedure, allowing Rex Salazar to successfully siphon the rogue nanites and restore his humanity. With the local populace safely detached from the neural hive-mind, Rex Salazar utilized his technopathic abilities to manually override and deactivate the incoming nuclear missile grid, successfully preserving lower Manhattan from total atomic annihilation. Later on, he bypassed his official Providence duties to sneak away to the resort island of Cabo Luna alongside Noah Nixon and Bobo Haha for a spring break vacation. While exploring the area at night, his presence was drawn to a mysterious teenage girl named Circe, whom he witnessed undergoing a violent physical ambush by a massive, aggressive Exponentially Variegated Organism sea monster. Rex Salazar actively deployed his mechanical builds to intervene and assist her in direct physical combat, subsequently discovering that Circe was herself an Exponentially Variegated Organism capable of emitting a powerful sonic scream to manipulate and lure other monsters. She explicitly revealed that she had deliberately summoned the aquatic titan to slay it as an initiation ritual to secure entry into the Pack, a hostile faction of loyal followers serving the villainous warlord Van Kleiss. Deeply concerned for her safety and well-aware of the warlord's historical pattern of exploiting and altering subjects, Rex Salazar coordinated with Agent Six, Bobo Haha, and Noah Nixon to aggressively intercept the incoming vanguard of Biowulf and Breach, buying enough tactical space to help Circe completely neutralize the sea monster. Following the physical victory, Rex Salazar passionately extended an open invitation for Circe to abandon her trajectory and join him under the protection of Providence, but she rejected the outreach, declaring that the Pack represented the only environment where her mutated nature would be truly accepted. Profoundly disheartened by the personal rejection, Rex Salazar prematurely terminated his vacation to return to headquarters to bury his emotional grief in his demanding workload, completely unaware that Van Kleiss had already been briefed on the blooming romantic connection and had formally accepted Circe into the Pack specifically to use her as emotional leverage to manipulate Rex Salazar in the future. Personality and attributes
In appearance, Rex Salazar was a male human E.V.O. of youthful teenage build with brown eyes and short black hair. During his public operations and daily activities, he wore a distinct red-orange leather jacket with a large blue "R" logo on the back, a dark undershirt, light grey cargo pants, and red-and-white sneakers. His physique showed an athletic, agile build typical of an active combatant, and his body did not exhibit any permanent physical mutations or visible deformations despite his continuous integration with active microscopic machines.
Powers and abilities
Originally, Rex Salazar had been an ordinary human until he suffered an injury in his childhood with nanites being used to save his life. This resulted in his transformation into a Exponentially Variegated Organism (EVO) when the nanites had bonded to him on a molecular level. Unlike other EVOs though, Rex actually maintained control over his nanites which provided him a range of abilities. These nanites permanently altered and empowered by billions of microscopic nanites infusing his biological system following a global disaster event. Unlike typical E.V.O.s who suffered uncontrollable physical mutations, Rex maintained complete conscious control over his active nanites, allowing him to communicate with and manipulate them to manifest complex mechanical constructs and massive weaponry directly from his body, including heavy metal fists and glider wings. Additionally, he possessed the unique capacity to interface with and deactivate foreign nanites within other E.V.O.s, effectively curing them of their mutations and restoring their original human forms.
Through the nanites, he was able to interface with technology allowing him to communicate with and control it.
Using his nanites, Salazar was able to create a variety of machines that formed from his own body which he could use offensively, defensively, or for transportation.
Rex was able to extract active nanites of other EVOs to cure them and turn them back to normal.
