Remmick

Remmick is an Irish vampire from the 7th Century. At some point, his family's land was stolen by Christians and they were displaced. Exactly how and when he became a vampire is unknown. He was married at some point and wore a wedding ring. He arrived in America aboard a ship that crashed into the docks in 1911. He was the sole survivor, having killed everyone else on board, and he fled before he could be apprehended by the authorities. In 1932, due to the cultural connection between the Irish and the Choctaw, Remmick, apparently seeking a firekeeper so he could see his ancestors again (being Irish, he likely knew of firekeepers both due to the Choctaw's ties to the Irish as well as the Irish's own such musicians, fili), but they quickly figured out he was a vampire and he chased him to the home of poor white farmers Bert and Joan.

Posing as an innocent victim of the "savage Injuns," Remmick offered Bert and Joan a handful of gold coins if they'd help him. Their greed won out, and while Joan was busy telling Choctaw leader Chayton and his men that the man they were looking for was most definitely not in the house, Remmick bit Bert and turned him into a vampire. He did the same to Joan after the Choctaw left. From Bert, who was Hogwood's nephew, Remmick learned about Club Juke and the Klan's plan to murder everyone there the next morning. Deciding the club was as good a place as any to have a snack and make some more vampires to join the growing community he sought to create, Remmick and his new friends went to nearby Clarksdale and were stunned upon arriving to see that the club was engulfed in an ethereal fire that the patrons evidently couldn't see, as spirits from the past and future danced among them, which they also couldn't see, but which the three vampires could.

Realizing what it was they were witnesses, Remmick and his friends resolved to talk their way into the club, find and bite the griot who had caused the vision they'd seen, and then Remmick could have him play his music for him and summon his ancestors from ancient Ireland so he could dance with them again. However, although they quickly figured out that guitarist Sammie Moore was the one they sought, because all three vampires were white, Smoke and Stack were reluctant to let them in in case they had a negative experience and complained about it, leading to a racist riot. Even Bert's claim that the three had lots of money failed to sway the Twins, especially Smoke, and the three vampires left, but made a point of singing around a log singing songs with their musical instruments.

Due to most of the customers paying in company scrip, Club Juke was underwater on its first night. Because she was mostly white, Mary offered to go and talk to the three odd but seemingly harmless musicians and see if they really did have lots of money. Although armed with a Luger given to her by Stack, Mary was unprepared for her encounter alone with the trio, and was ultimately attacked from behind and bitten by Bert, who flew up into the air. Mary in turn bit and turned Stack, while Remmick and the other two got Cornbread and anyone else who left. Soon Remmick had gone from just two companions to an entire vampire army, which he celebrated by taunting the survivors by leading the vampires in a mad, wild rendition of the song "Rocky Road to Dublin" with several of the vampires even forming a band. Afterwards, he approached the front door again and explained his motivation, and tried to persuade the humans to give up and become vampires by revealing what he'd learned about Hogwood. Although shocked, those inside the club still failed to see the benefits of being undead, even when Stack directly confronted his brother and told him that becoming a creature of the night was the only true freedom.

During the discussion, Remmick had threatened the life of Lisa, since her father Bo was one of the people who'd been bitten and turned, knowing her father was one of perhaps only two people Lisa would let into the house. Fearful for her daughter and seeking to kill Bo, Grace yelled for the vampires to come in, delighting Remmick who led the charge. After killing three juke patrons, the vampires' plan to add to their community was ruined when Stack bit Annie but Smoke staked her before she could turn. Remmick joined Stack and Mary in running back outside to regroup. He and Stack doubled around the back, and while Stack fought his brother, Remmick bit and turned Pearline and pursued Sammie to the mill's pond, capturing him. Sammie's attempt to save himself by saying the Lord's Prayer had no effect; Remmick knew it, and he and the other vampires joined him in reciting it, with the master vampire even repeatedly dunking his intended victim in the water in a mock baptism until Sammie hit him in the head with his guitar, burying half off it in Remmick's skull.

Managing to pull the broken piece of the guitar out of his head, Remmick, seeing the sun was rising, moved to bite Sammie, but was attacked from behind and staked by Smoke. The sun rose, killing him and his newly created vampire army. He held out the longest and even seemed to consider pulling the stake free and trying to escape again, but looked at the sun and gave up, meeting his end in an impressive tornado of fire.
