History
The Regressus Diaboli (Latin: Return of the Devil) was a prophecy and an apocalyptic event that was believed to occur once every thousand years. It was said that Satan was banished from Heaven by the Archangel Michael and imprisoned in Hell around the year 999 A.D., with the understanding that he would be released once every thousand years to attempt to bring about the apocalypse. According to ancient biblical texts, it was foretold that at the end of a millennium that Satan would be released from his prison. He would return to Earth with a singular purpose: to possess a man and then impregnate a specially 'chosen woman' before midnight on December 31st, 1999. The successful conception of his child, the Antichrist, would grant Satan dominion over the Earth and bring about the apocalypse. The prophecy also stated that if Satan failed to conceive a child with the chosen woman before the millennium began, he would be sent back to Hell for another thousand years. This apocalyptic history dictated that for the cycle to be fulfilled at the close of the second millennium, two specific individuals were required to be marked at their births in 1979. Throughout the two decades that followed, various Satanic cults and a secretive faction within the Vatican were aware of the prophecy and the key players involved.
