The Red Scholars were an ancient order of mages, scribes and scholars who had existed for hundreds of years with their origin predating that of the Lords of Ice. During its founding, their goal was simply curiosity and the pursuit of lost knowledge. In time, this changed to a quest to confront the Lords of Ice and defeat them. This saw them creating a relic designed to defeat the Lords of Ice and their Deadarmy with this artifact being protected by the Pure-Blades where they took shelter in an ancient temple in order to remove the power of their enemy. Many surviving Humans and Elves saw the Red Scholars as the last chance for Vertiel to have a peaceful future. The organization ran its covert mystical trials on the continent of Vertiel, functioning in absolute opposition to an overwhelming, icy invasion led by the seven Seven Lords of Ice and their vast Deadwalker army. Believing that their deep historical knowledge could successfully tip the tactical scales, the group orchestrated an experimental ritual designed to manifest a powerful supernatural weapon or artifact. To safeguard their isolated operational centers during the process, the brotherhood hired an elite private military company known as the Freeborn Blades. The assembly’s long-term defense plans collapsed entirely when the complex invocation went catastrophically wrong, triggering an unexpected spiritual displacement that bound a powerful fire demon directly into the physical body of a mercenary vanguard named Vulcan.

In appearance, the Red Scholars was a clandestine intellectual organization whose active ritual circle and faculty consisted entirely of adult human mages and dedicated scribes. They featured standard bipedal human physical builds spanning varying age ranges, maintaining ordinary physical statures while navigating the hazardous, monster-infested ruins of Vertiel.
