Biography

Origin

The Justice League under Queen Bee's control in Justice League of America v1 #23.

Zazzala was a female inhabitant of the hiveworld of Korll. (JLA v1 #36) Her people were said to had developed from insect life where they became a humanoid race. (Justice League of America v1 #23)

She came to look for the long-sought elixir of immortality that was created by the Korll scientist Per Kazz. He had used the elixir on the inhabitants of the planet Somalar though its effects were not known to the people of the universe. (Justice League of America v1 #23)

With the vials in her possession, she had the mind-controlled Justice League return to Earth as Zazzala believed she would become immortal and thus unstoppable. However, she was unable to open the vials that had been sealed shut by the heroes thus denying her immortality. The machine that she used to threaten the Earth had also shut down after the completion of the heroes task and the Justice League took precautions to ensure that they did not ever fall under Queen Bee's control again. (Justice League of America v1 #23) Zazzala continued to try to free the contents of the vials but was unable to break the energy seals on them formed by the Green Lantern's Power Ring. This led to Queen Bee looking into the research of Per Kazz for a solution to this and he learnt that the long-dead scientist had studied he unique ring energy of the Green Lantern Corps. In fact, he had developed a machine that could absorb the energy from their rings and Zazzala used this to remove the seals on the vials. It was then that she drank the elixir and truly became immortal with her planning to make the entire universe part of her realm. However, she came to learn that the elixir was gradually turning her into an immobile state thus subjecting her to a living death as she would be immortal yet unable to move forever. To save herself from this fate, she enslaved the Justice League once again where she turned them into drones to serve her in finding a cure for the elixir of immortality. Thus, she desired to be returned to a mortal state and escape the horrific fate that awaited her. (Justice League of America v1 #60)

She was contacted by Lex Luthor in joining the new incarnation of the Injustice Gang alongside Prometheus and the General in attacking the Justice League. In exchange for her aid, she was to be offered half of Earth's population to be her drone-slaves. (JLA v1 #36) Queen Bee participated in the attack on the Justice League Watchtower with her calling upon her swarms to attack Earth. (JLA v1 #37) She then proceeded to Earth's surface where she had her forces and those under her control to begin building a hive with the royal eggmatrix. (JLA v1 #38)

Her warriors came to her aid with Zazzala commanding the detonation of sterilization bombs in the area as she managed to overpower Big Barda. It was then that Steel determined that the Queen Bee and her people could not see the colour red allowing him to sneak in close quarters to her whereupon he activated a Boom Tube. This opened a doorway back to her hiveworld with Barda knocking her inside with her swarm in pursuit of their queen leading to the swarms defeat. (JLA v1 #40)

H.I.V.E. later fell under her control which she used as part of her operations on Earth. With them, she struck at a S.T.A.R. Labs facility to recover a matter transmitter to transport her extraterrestrial armies to the planet with this being detected by the Justice League who dispatched Wonder Woman, Flash and Black Lightning to stop her. She managed to use the transmitter to escape to another city but the Flash arrived at her destination with his super-speed and disarmed her allowing for her capture. (Justice League of America v2 #20)

Overview

Personality and attributes

She preferred to be addressed by her title which was the Royal Genetrix, Omni-Conscious and All-Fulfilling, Her Eternal Majesty, the Queen Bee. (JLA v1 #36) After drinking the elixir of immortality, she came to refer to herself as Queen Zazzala the Immortal. (Justice League of America v1 #23)

Concepts such as relative beauty and flattery were meaningless to her people. (JLA v1 #36)

Queen Bee had stated that it was her and her peoples biological right to claim a world's resources. (JLA v1 #38) Ultimately, Zazzala intended to become the Queen of the Universe and rule over all space. (Justice League of America v1 #23)

She had a desire to rule forever and thus sought to become immortal. (Justice League of America v1 #60)

Powers and abilities

Biologically, she was a genetically accelerated insect-humanoid. (JLA v1 #37) As a result, she shared some traits with those of bees allowing her to smell and taste like humans but her hearing was poor. Furthermore, she could see into the ultraviolet range but was blind to the colour red. (JLA v1 #38) She was noted for having incredible strength that was able to battle a New God in a physical confrontation. (JLA v1 #39)

She made use of psycho-pollen that had anaesthetic qualities that dulled pain in addition to mind control capabilities that removed the individuality to those exposed to it. This hypno-pollen allowed her to take control of her enemies and make them serve her. (JLA v1 #37) Upon touching the skin, it sapped the will of a person and when inhaled it allowed Queen Bee to completely control the person. (Justice League of America v2 #20)

Zazzala made use of a magno-nuclear rod that could coat individuals with specific radiation that controlled a target’s actions. Some of her technology responded to her personal mental command. Even superpowered beings could fall under the control from the rod. (Justice League of America v1 #23)

Queen Bee commanded an army of Bee-Man that consisted of drone-workers and others that followed her every order. (Justice League of America v1 #23) She was served by her swarm with it following her wherever she went in space. (JLA v1 #36) Zazzala could make use of a techno-pheromone to summon her hordes to her with them swarming over worlds and setting up hives for their queen. During attacks, they deployed pollen-warheads in order to make slaves of the native populations that were used in the construction of an empire. (JLA v1 #37) Hypo-pollen factories were then established to provide the simply work skills for slaves with the air being made to auto-program a target races caste-role in the hive hierarchy. (JLA v1 #38)

Those affected by the pollen were partially transformed into half-insectoid creatures dedicated to serving their master. These individuals could fire stingers from their bodies allowing them to shoot out 1500 rounds per second. Once the brainwashing was removed, the affected individuals were able to return to their former appearance and state. (Justice League of America v2 #20)

She commanded a mighty hive-like vessel that was able to travel through space. These ships contained technology that allowed them to hide themselves from more primitive worlds scanning systems. (Justice League of America v1 #23)
