History

The Pyrians were a highly advanced race of beings who were first encountered by the Systems Commonwealth in 6883 CY. This first contact between the two empires occured when an attempt was made to terraform the planet Ni Kau Prime which provoked a reaction from the mysterious Pyrians who settled on the intensely hot inner planets throughout the six galaxies. In retaliation for this move, the Pyrians began "pyraforming" the world of Rainbow Sands thus turning a pleasant world into a hellish inferno that was suitable for Pyrian colonization. This resulted in a series of skirmishes being fought between both sides as a result. (Website: All Systems University Timeline) The first world that was fought over between the two empires was Brauma which was a Venus-type world. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun) During this conflict, two High Guard battlegroups were led by the first Human Admiral, Munroe, into a suicide engagement with a fleet of Pyrian warships under the orders from his Vedrans superiors. Though he and his subordinates lost their lives as a result against the Pyrians, it led to a Commonwealth victory. (Episode: The Fair Unknown) After several of these skirmishes, the Commonwealth and Pyrians managed to negotiate a defactor peace where each side recognized the dominion of the others over their existing territories. (Website: All Systems University Timeline) As part of the peace settlement, the Commonwealth agreed to hand over the planet Brauma to the Pyrians. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun)

Following that time, a diplomatic protocol known as Contact Protocol Red 15 was used as a method through which the Commonwealth could enter into negotiations with the Pyrians. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun) During 9912 CY was the next notable momement where the Pyrians became involved with the Commonwealth following the environmental disaster that afflicted Krrendar IV which was the homeworld of the Nightsiders. Despite environmental recalamationa attempts as well as terraforming, the damage was shown to be irreversible. As a result, the entirety of the system was ceded to the Pyrians following the Nightsiders evacuvation as well as dispersion into known space. (Website: All Systems University Timeline) The Pyrians seemingly survived the Fall of the Systems Commonwealth as a result of the Nietzscheans Uprising following which they longer recognised the authority of Contact Protocol Red 15. According to them, their treaties with the Commonwealth expired the moment that government expired. This allowed the species to survive and advance for the next three centuries without any opposition to their actions. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun)

In CY 10088, the planet Inarus learnt of the Pyrians and that one of their exports, ammonium phosphate, was actually an addictive substance for the alien race. Thus, in order to bolster their damaged economy, the Inari began to smuggle the compound into Pyrian space and were as a result paid by those members of the species addicted to ammonium phosphate which was sold in their black market. When the Pyrians asked the Inari to stop the smuggling operations, the Inarus government refused but this provoked a reaction from some Inari who served as informants for the Pyrians. This resulted in the Pyrians establishing a blockade on the Inarus trade route where they destroyed their transport ships that contained the ammmonium phosphate. The interdictor forces were tasked with preventing the compound from reaching their colonies as part of the blockade. After losing several vessels as a result, the Inari government grew desperate and called upon the aid of Captain Dylan Hunt of the Andromeda Ascendant who was not informed of the Pyrian threat or the true nature of the conflict. After learning of thr true nature of the conflict, Captain Hunt destroyed the ammonium phosphate that was to be transported and contacted the Pyrians where he offered the Inari responsible in the conspiracy to be tried by Pyrian law. This seemingly ended the Pyrian state of hostilities as they managed to end the source of the drug trade into their territory. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun)

Following this incident, the Lambent Kith Nebula sent a representative of their kind known as Azazel to the Pyrians in order to prop their civilization as the vanguard to fight the threat of the Magog Worldship and the servants of the Spirit of the Abyss. Thus, in CY 10089, the Pyrians under the instructions of Azazel sent their vessels to the planet Samsarra where they deployed twenty four atmospheric generators on the world to commence "pyroforming" of its surface. All attempts by the native inhabitants to communicate with the Pyrians were rebuffed and they left the system. This provoked the intervention of the Andromeda Ascendant of the restored New Systems Commonwealth who destroyed the generators. Through the precognition abilities of their Lambent Keth envoy, the Pyrians managed to circumvent the High Guards attempt at stopping the colonization of Samsarra with a full task force being sent shortly after the destruction of the pyroforming generators with fresh new equipment ready to continue the pyroforming process. The task force was stalled by the lone Andromeda Ascendant until reinforcements from the High Guard arrived who managed to destroy the two dropships carrying the spare atmospheric generators. However, the Pyrians, under the direction of Azazel, had unleashed a new armada that was in hiding around the systems star allowing them to decimate the Commonwealth fleet and thus temporarily take Samsarra. At the same time, Pyrian battle fleets were assembling all across the Three Galaxies as part of an offensive against all the Known Worlds. The war only ended when Captain Dylan Hunt and his battlegroup destroyed Samsarra rather than allow it to fall into Pyrian hands. This led to the Pyrians attempting to re-contact the Systems Commonwealth using the diplomatic initiative of the first Commonwealth in order to re-evaluate the status of all disputed worlds. (Episode: Point of the Spear)

Overview

This species were completely non-Humanoid in their form and resembled floating jellyfish style beings with brown covered skin and a trail of tentacles beneath them whilst they floated in the air. Their unique biology meant that they lived on Venus-type worlds where the inhabited environments that were under extreme pressure as well as heat. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun) An ideal atmospheric content for Pyrians involved CO2, methane and sulphur dioxide which was lethal to oxygen breathing races. (Episode: Point of the Spear) It was known that ammonium phosphate was an addictive drug to their race which ultimately deadly in its continued usage. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun)

Their species possessed their own set government as well as possessed a number of laws. It was known that there was a black market present within Pyrian society that dealt in controlled drug substances. The species were described as being both expanionistic as well as quite "anti-social" to at least one member of the High Guard. Pyrians were never known to be members of the Commonwealth and barely even acknowledged the existence of that government during its height. Their environment and mindset was completely different from those of the Commonwealth that there was very little need for cnotact with the two bodies except for the occasional clash over planets. Despite living such an alien existence, the Pyrians were known to clash over planets for resources and thus led to them "pyroforming" such worlds for their uses. Whilst considered an expansionistic power, the Pyrians did not actively conquer other worlds and only attacked when provoked on certain occasions. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun) Typically, they did not actively communicate with other races during their incursions or other activities. (Episode: Point of the Spear)

Pyrians were known to be both highly advanced as well as technologically sophisticated. Their trademark piece of weapon technology were AG Mass Packets that were launched at enemy warships and adhered to the hull which began to slow them vessel as reduce manevuerability. This effectively crippled the enemy starship and allowed Pyrian warships to close in as well as destroyed them. Another notable example of their weapon technology was some form of continous beam plasma cannon that was quite powerful that was described as being at least a few dozen gigawatts. Whilst very deadly, these plasma weapons lacked long range capability which meant target ships needed to be crippled first before this beam blast could be used. The strength of these weapons allowed them to severely weaken three inch composite plating used on starships to the point that such metal could be broken by hands after being bombarded with such a plasma attack. In addition to this energy weapon, the Pyrians also made use of missile technology to attack enemies at a distance. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun) Weaponry also included low velocity stand off weapons that were able to hit enemy targets but not harm ships as a form of warning shot. Another weapon within their arsenal consisted of barrages of neutron ground attack missiles that were able to be launched at planetary targets and destroyed organic matter. (Episode: Point of the Spear)

Pyrian warships were covered with radiation that made it difficult to target but active sensors allowed them to be identified by their rad signatures. As was the case with other known powers, the Pyrians also possessed Slipstream technology thus providing them faster than light travel. It was known that even at the height of the Commonwealth, fully loaded and crewed Glorious Heritage class heavy cruisers were only an even match to a Pyrian Torchship. (Episode: Pitiless as the Sun) They also made use of smaller fighter craft that resembled their larger Torchships and had massive drop ships that were capable of transporting pyroforming technology to target worlds if need be. Typical task force formations involved the protection of the drop ships which were surrounded by battle capable vessels. (Episode: Point of the Spear)

They also had the capacity to terraform planets in a process known as "pyroforming" which involved a placement of twenty four fusion powered atmospheric generators for complete coverage of a world in order to transform it for conditions suitable for the Pyrians. This process took at least a month to accomplish and completely transform a world into becoming hostile to oxygen breathing lifeforms. These installations were completely unmanned and automated allowing them to work without being crewed or supervised by the Pyrians. (Episode: Point of the Spear)
