Biography

Generation 1

Primus was the god of light born as a being of energy millions of years ago. As the universe began in its existence and life was beginning to form, it was under threat by the greatest evil: last of the Dark Gods, Unicron, the Chaos-Bringer. However, this fledging life had a protector created by the sentient core of the universe The Void! in the form of Primus, Lord of the Light Gods, who needed to defeat Unicron before he could take his place in the Omniversal Matrix. However, this clash of the opposing gods caused galactic devastation, against Primus's wishes. Thus, he conceived of a trap; Primus moved from his weakened energy form to the astral plane for apparent further battle, and Unicron followed. Before Unicron could finish him off and extinguish his 'lifeglow', Primus returned to the physical world and Unicron followed again only to find them both materializing in tiny, barren lumps of space junk. Primus closed off their path, separating the two gods from their energy forms for all eternity and trapping them in their stone prisons. However, both possessed the ability to reshape their prisons—while Unicron created his into a new body, the first Transformer, Primus instead chose to form his physical form into the planet Cybertron and created a native race with converting capabilities mimicking those of Unicron's. Further, Primus infused his essence into a 'Genetic Matrix' to create further generations of Transformers with 'lifeglow'. It was passed down from leader to leader within his children and was the one thing that could destroy Unicron. To prevent Unicron from attacking before his children were ready, Primus underwent slumber to close off the psychic link between the two deities. Before entering his eons-long slumber, Primus created the Last Autobot, and posted the dormant guardian in a hidden location on Cybertron.

Unicron eventually reshaped his into the planet-eating terror he became known as, while Primus took a different path. He made his asteroid a world of living machines- Cybertron- and bred a race of living machines- Transformers- to serve as the warriors to finally destroy Unicron. To help their numbers grow, he gave them the ability to reproduce via bio-morphic reproduction, until he decided there were enough of them and wiped the ability from their memory. (Despite this, later Transformers, including Lord Jhiaxus, rediscovered the ability and used it to excess.) He gave them a large portion of his life energy in the form of the Creation Matrix, allowing them to create new Transformers using the artifact. After that, Primus went into hibernation, with only the Keeper to guard him.

However, in 1990, Primus was reawakened, unleashing a scream that alerted Unicron to his location. Unicron began traveling to Cybertron to destroy his enemy, and sent Galvatron, Hook, Line, and Sinker to soften up the planet's defenses. Galvatron betrayed Unicron, however, and with the help of Emirate Xaaron, he awoke Primus again, who inhabited Xaaron's body. Primus summoned all the Transformers to Cybertron, but in trying to muster them to fight the overwhelmingly terrifying Unicron, Primus (along with Xaaron) was destroyed.

According to transformers lore, before the dawn of time, Order and Chaos existed within an extra-dimensional entity known as The One. To explore the fledgling universe, he created the astral being known as Unicron, and then subdivided him, creating his twin, Primus. Both brothers were multiversal singularities, unique in all realities, but where as Unicron could only exist in one universe at a time, moving between them at will, Primus existed simultaneously in all realities at once. It is suggested, in fact, that the two brothers embody the basic concepts of reality—good and evil, order and chaos—and that their continued existence is necessary for the stability of the multiverse.

As Unicron and Primus ventured through the cosmos, it became apparent to Primus that Unicron was a corrupt being, and then confronted the threat his sibling posed. In combat, Primus was no match for Unicron. In cunning, however, he proved himself to be his brother's superior when he shifted their battle to the astral plane, and then back to the physical world once more, sacrificing most of his strength to manifest their essences within metallic planetoids, leaving them both trapped. It was with this act of sacrifice that Primus hoped to contain the evil force forever. Unfortunately, over time, Unicron learned to physically shape his prison into a giant metallic planet, and Primus followed suit, becoming the mechanical world of Cybertron. When Unicron then learned to transform his planetary form even further, into a gigantic robot form, Primus could also, but adapted the idea, and created The Thirteen, a group of robotic beings that possessed the ability to change shape, like Unicron.

The war between Unicron and Primus came to its seeming end during a climactic battle in which one of the Thirteen, Megatronus Prime, who would forever afterwards be known as The Fallen, betrayed Primus and became an acolyte of Unicron. The battle ended when the Fallen and Unicron were sucked into a black hole and disappeared from reality. With Unicron gone for now, Primus entered an eons-long slumber, preventing Unicron from detecting him through the mental link the brothers shared.

he was described as the creator of the Transformers and Cybertron, born as the counter to Unicron, the embodiment of destruction. Primus waged a battle against Unicron across dimensions, and to prevent their eternal war from consuming all of existence, he transformed himself into the metallic world of Cybertron. This act bound Unicron into a barren planetoid, ensuring their conflict was confined. His presence was spoken of not as a distant myth but as a living force residing at the heart of Cybertron itself, where he slumbered, dreaming and waiting for the time when his children would need him most. IDW

a version of Primus appeared as a member of the Guiding Hand, a group of five deities who were the first life on Cybertron. But, Primus and his noble fellows Adaptus, Epistemus, and Solomus were betrayed by their brother Mortilus, and the conflict left all five mortally wounded. They would give way to their descendants, the Knights of Cybertron.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Primus was a massive, planet-sized mechanical entity whose vast body formed the very world of Cybertron itself. In his dormant state, he existed as the metallic sphere of the planet, composed of layer upon layer of intricate machinery, infrastructure, and living technology. When manifesting in a humanoid form, Primus appeared as a colossal Transformer of unimaginable scale, with a visage both regal and divine. His armor was radiant and silver-gold, etched with ancient Cybertronian glyphs and glowing lines of energy that pulsed like veins. His face was often depicted with a serene, wise countenance, framed by an ornate helm resembling a crown, symbolizing his sovereignty over the Transformer race. Even as a mechanical god, his form was not static—he could shift aspects of his planetary shell to form limbs, weapons, or even avatars to communicate with lesser beings. His body emitted a constant hum of cosmic energy, an audible reminder of the divine power that coursed through him.

In personality, Primus was portrayed as patient, wise, and benevolent, contrasting Unicron’s embodiment of chaos and destruction. His tone, when communicated through visions or myth, reflected a paternal presence, concerned with the preservation and growth of his children, the Transformers. Unlike Unicron’s domineering and direct involvement, Primus often remained passive, allowing his creations free will, stepping in only when their existence faced annihilation. He was both distant and deeply invested, embodying a god of creation whose compassion was balanced with the wisdom to let his children forge their own destinies.

Powers and abilities

In essence, Primus was a god-machine, a being of near-absolute power who embodied creation, order, and life itself. His physiology was unique in that his very body was Cybertron, his core being the Well of All Sparks, and his consciousness spread across the planet. His powers were cosmic, including the ability to shape reality into mechanical form, create life through sparks, and directly battle beings like Unicron on a universal scale. Though often dormant, his presence was eternal, ensuring that Cybertron and the Transformers were not merely machines but the continuation of his divine will.

Primus was composed not only of Cybertronian alloys and mechanical systems but of pure metaphysical essence—he was the embodiment of Order, Light, and Creation itself. Unlike other Transformers, whose sparks represented fragments of life, Primus's Spark was a boundless wellspring of life-giving energy, capable of birthing entire races. His body, being Cybertron, contained every known element necessary for Transformer existence: energon veins, atmospheric processing towers, subterranean data archives, and dimensional stabilizers that kept his form tethered to physical and spiritual realms. At his core—both literally and metaphysically—lay the Vector Sigma supercomputer, a conduit for his divine will and the repository of Cybertronian consciousness. As a being of cosmic origin, Primus was forged to counter his dark twin, Unicron, and thus his very structure was charged with counter-chaotic energies designed to resist entropy and corruption. His physical form was inseparable from the destiny of Cybertron itself, and his awakening or slumber echoed across the galaxy, influencing the balance of power among stars and species alike.

Primus’s essence was further clarified as the very life force of Cybertron. He was said to reside in the planetary core, shaping the biosphere of the mechanical world and giving rise to the Well of All Sparks, the source of Transformer life. The legends recounted that Primus imbued Cybertron with the ability to generate sparks—the very souls of Transformers—making them more than machines, but living, thinking beings. This sacred role reinforced him as a god-like figure among Cybertronians, with the planet itself serving as both his body and his temple.
