Biography
Frank Skorina
As a mercenary, he came to be hired to steal high-tech circuitry for Brazilian crime lord Kristina Ramos. He ran afoul of Captain Marvel Monica Rambeau who had thought she lost her powers after stopping a mutated Marrina. She encountered Powderkeg and used her new powers to defeat him. (Captain Marvel v2 #1)
Powderkeg fought the Avengers during a failed mass prison escape occurring at the Vault. During the incident, he followed the leader of the breakout, Venom. Teamed with Mentallo and Vermin, they temporarily defeated Iron Man and Hank Pym. The entire breakout was soon neutralized by technological means, with energy pumped through Mentallo. (Avengers: Death Trap, The Vault v1 #1)
Powderkeg attempted to kidnap Symkarian ambassador Andre Blau, his wife Cheryl, and their baby Thomas, but it turned into a hostage situation when the police surrounded them. Deathlok attacked Powderkeg who threatened Thomas' life before punching Deathlok through the wall. Powderkeg was calling the police to demand a car to escape when Deathlok renewed his attack, tossing Powderkeg through the window and to the ground four stories below. Skorina then surrendered to the police. ((Deathlok v2 #12)
Doctor Octopus assembled a group of disconnected villains, including Powderkeg, and proposed that they raid Avengers Mansion for weapons while the heroes were distracted with the destruction of the Baxter Building. At the Mansion, they were attacked by the time-travelling Guardians of the Galaxy, and Powderkeg hit Starhawk, who weirdly disappeared right afterwards. When Powderkeg tried to attack Major Victory, Talon threw Oddball into Powderkeg instead. (Guardians of the Galaxy v1 #28)
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Frank Skorina was a towering, colossally broad, and heavily built Caucasian male who stood at a staggering height of eight feet one inch and weighed approximately five hundred and sixty-eight pounds. To project a distinct, highly visible brand across the underground mercenary community, he completely rejected traditional dark espionage tactical gear or low-profile civilian clothing. Instead, his custom battle wardrobe consisted of an exceptionally vibrant, form-fitting bodysuit rendered in an alternating green and orange color matrix. The uniform featured reinforced, padded detailing along his massive chest and joints to handle intense mechanical recoil, paired with protective dark combat gloves and thick, insulated boots. He possessed a completely hairless skull, a heavy brow ridge, and piercing red eyes, presenting a bright, wildly ostentatious visual presence engineered to instantly project pure physical intimidation on the battlefield. (Captain Marvel Special v1 #1)
Powers and abilities
Frank Skorina possessed an extraordinary level of superhuman durability, superhuman physical strength, and a unique, weaponized biological chemical matrix. His primary asset on the battlefield was the capability to secrete a specialized, highly volatile chemical compound similar to nitroglycerin directly through the pores of his skin, concentrated heavily around his hands. Whenever he slammed his fists into an object or slapped his palms together with enough force, the kinetic impact instantly triggered an incredible concussive explosion, enabling him to deliver devastating "megaton" punches that shattered defensive barriers. His dense physiology acted as a flawless natural buffer against extreme trauma, granting him total personal immunity to his own explosive blasts and high-velocity physical impacts. This massive structural toughness ensured he could comfortably trade direct, heavy blows during close-quarters melee skirmishes without sustaining internal injuries. (Captain Marvel Special v1 #1)
