Biography
Okoye was a female inhabitant of the nation of Wakanda where she came to join the ranks of the Dora Milaje that was the 'Adored Ones'. As a young teenager, she came to be one of the brides-in-training for the King of Wakanda with this being the Black Panther T'Challa. She along with Nakia were chosen to accompany him with Okoye serving as his chauffeur. (Black Panther v3 #1)
Okoye acted as one of the two inaugural members of the Dora Milaje, serving as a ceremonial wife-in-training and personal bodyguard to T'Challa. She travelled from Wakanda to New York City as part of the King's royal entourage, maintaining a constant and vigilant presence at his side. During a public appearance at a charity event, she stood in a formal protective stance, observing the environment for potential threats while remaining silent and disciplined. When the group moved to a private apartment, she performed domestic and security-related duties, which included preparing to attend to the King’s needs and standing guard as he interacted with American associates. She demonstrated her cultural adherence by communicating primarily in the Hausa dialect with her fellow Dora Milaje, Nakia, to maintain privacy from outsiders. Throughout these actions, she maintained a stoic demeanor, following royal protocol and responding immediately to T'Challa's commands without hesitation. (Black Panther v3 #1)
When T’Challa became the Avengers new chairman, he began efforts to help bolster the band of superheroes in their operations. This led to him forming the Agents of Wakanda that was a network of super-operatives who were tasked with support missions. After recruiting various people, he had Okoye assigned as the Director of this group where she helped field them in their missions. (Avengers v8 #12)
Afterwards, the world came under attack from Knull, the god of the Symbiotes who engulfed the entire planet in their substance. Among the areas attacked by the parasites was the kingdom of Wakanada where the Symbiotes were able to pierce through the country's border shield. Once inside, they began attacking the natives in order to take them as hosts. Okoye was in the palace where she advised Shuri over responding to the attacks by the creatures. They were joined by T'Challa who needed time to enact his plan into action where he asked for Okoye to use the prototype Hand of Bast that was designed to fight threats like the Phoenix. She was convinced to take part in the strategy whereby she deployed the Hand of Bast to defeat one of the Symbiote Dragons invading Wakanda. This delayed the attackers long enough for T'Challa to use Klaw's sonic weapon re-directed at the border shield that resonated the vibrations to destroy all the Symbiotes in the Wakanda area thus freeing that section of the world. (King in Black: Black Panther v1 #1)
She later registered an intrusion into Wakandan territory and led the Hatut Zeraze in apprehending the intruder who turned out to be the mercenary Taskmaster. The supervillain claimed that he had come to ask for asylum as he was being targeted by an assassin. Instead, he was arrested though his insults at the the Dogs of War saw him facing the Hatut Zeraze in personal combat though Taskmaster came to defeat them. This saw him personally fighting Okoye herself where she was bested though Taskmaster was simply returned to his cell. Afterwards, Okoye was contacted by authorities in the U.S. who wanted Taskmaster for crimes in the country leading to Okoye handing the supervillain over to them. (Taskmaster v3 #4)

- In Black Panther, Okoye made her first appearance in the live-action film where she was portrayed by actress Danai Gurira. In 2016, a week after the death of the king of Wakanda, T'Chaka, T'Challa decided to retrieve Nakia from her current War Dogs mission as he wished for her to be present during his coronation. As a pilot for her king, Okoye and T'Challa flew a Royal Talon Fighter to Nigeria where Nakia was located. As T'Challa prepared for his mission by using one of the tablets to look at where Nakia and the missing Chibok girls are located, Okoye informed him where they're heading near the border of Wakanda. Getting up from her chair, Okoye was about to equip a Vibranium Spear by her side but was told by her king that he could handle the mission on his own, much to her surprise. Okoye then puts her Vibranium Spear aside and listened to T'Challa's word on getting Nakia out of the forest. Understanding her orders, Okoye gave Kimoyo Beads to T'Challa for the mission and told him to not freeze when Nakia arrives, as he countered that he never freezes in a confrontation. As T'Challa put on his helmet and dropped down the airship, Okoye observed her king from afar as the traffickers noticed the trucks were hit by an EMP. T'Challa ambushed the gunmen before he encountered a child soldier just until Nakia then arrived to save him. As T'Challa and Nakia had a brief talk with each other, a surviving gunman tried to force them to surrender by threatening a hostage, only for Okoye to swiftly disarm and then run him through with her Vibranium Spear, saving T'Challa from a tough situation and ending the skirmish. Okoye teased T'Challa for his lack of focus and looked over the woman being held hostage. While Okoye rescues the women, T'Challa told of his father's death and invited her to the coronation. Once Nakia agreed on T'Challa for participating in the coronation, she went over the women who are gathered and told them to go home and take the boy to his people. As Nakia left the group alone, Okoye confronted the women and told them not to speak about what happened that night, as they agreed on her terms. Okoye smiled at the women and left with bitter hope of returning home. Okoye piloted the Royal Talon Fighter with T'Challa and Nakia on board.
- In Avengers: Infinity War, Okoye made a return appearance in the live-action film where she was once more portrayed by actress Danai Gurira.
