Nergal Heavy Industries (Japanese: ネルガル重工, Hepburn: Nerugaru Jūkō?)
They assisted the government in the war against the Jovians attacking from Jupiter which had annihilated the UE military forces at Mars and captured the planet. Conventional weaponry proves useless against the invaders, and so a new type of battleship must be created; the ND-001 Nadesico, armed with the same weaponry and defenses used by the Jovian forces. However, though the ship was commissioned by the UE, it remains the property of Nergal, who has its own plans for the vessel and its crew: Project Schiaparelli, named for the astronomer who named the seas and continents on the Red Planet.
Overview
In appearance, Nergal Heavy Industries was a massive corporate organization whose executive boards, high-level administrative directors, and project recruiters consisted entirely of adult human bureaucrats and wealthy industrial stakeholders. Their employees spanned separate technical and corporate divisions, with their senior representatives preserving clean, ordinary physical statures during their indoor facility briefings. The organization adapted its visual presence to emphasize an ultra-sleek, professional corporate aesthetic rather than state military uniforms, completely rejecting traditional camouflage fatigues or standardized combat armor plates. Their garments consisted of dark, tailored three-piece corporate business suits, crisp white collared shirts, matching neckties, and polished dress shoes to project an air of high-ranking administrative authority. Their visual identity was extended through the advanced engineering designs of their military assets, anchoring their presence around the Nadesico—a colossal, aerodynamic space cruiser finished in a clean white and yellow glossy color scheme that featured sweeping hull lines and prominent mechanical launch bays designed to accommodate autonomous fighter frames.
Nergal's first interest was to itself; to that end, the Nadesico was created to break through the massed Jovian forces and re-capture technology and research from Nergal laboratories, abandoned when Mars was occupied. One of the revelations made on the planet was that the Nadesico itself was not fully realized by Nergal. An ancient vessel which had crash-landed on the planet was discovered by the corporation. Realizing its technological value, Nergal built a facility around it, and the design of the Nadesico and all future ships in its class were based on this ship. However, the Nadesico was overwhelmed by a massive attack and heavily damaged, forcing its desperate retreat from the planet using a Jovian transporter device. Learning of this failure, the chairman of Nergal made the decision to formally ally the company with the UE and integrate the Nadesico with the military, for the time being.
They relied on their comprehensive institutional tracking databases and exceptionally high scientific intellect to execute complex starship manufacturing, process advanced aerospace metallurgy, and monitor ongoing planetary defense metrics across light-years. They did not initially possess innate organic superpowers, shared telepathic links, or natural biological invulnerability, relying instead on massive corporate wealth, advanced energy generation fields, and a revolutionary technological breakthrough centered on alien physics.
This specialized engineering allowed their research units to design and maintain capital-class space battleships equipped with dense Phase Transition space shields, devastating gravity blast weaponry, and highly advanced computer operating systems. Their primary capabilities allowed them to command a private space armada capable of outmaneuvering state militaries, isolate unique deep-space energy signatures, and maintain an independent, highly disciplined corporate network capable of deploying weaponized mobile frames to override global military jurisdictions during interplanetary emergencies.
