Biography

Naacht Faust of the Black Bulls.

Nacht Faust (Japanese: ナハト・ファウスト, Hepburn: Nahato Fausuto) was a male human born as a citizen of the Clover Kingdom. He and his twin brother Morgen Faust were both born as members of the House Faust. After the twins turn 15 years old, they came to receive their grimoires which was when Nacht heard about a foreigner with weird magic. Deciding to investigate, this led to Nacht coming to meet with Yami Sukehiro. The two got along and had fun committing petty crimes together. Later that year, Morgen and Yami joined the Grey Deer squad of the Magic Knights. Morgen also came to befriend Yami and encouraged Nacht to join as well, but Nacht would refuse to do so. When Nacht turns 18 years old, his parents tell him of the family's history of studying devils and bring to the underground training chamber. Nacht is overjoyed at the prospect and, over a short time, successfully binding four devils named Gimodelo, Slotos, Plumede, and Walgner where he came to master their powers. One day, Nacht's father gave Nacht a bracelet linked to Lucifugus, a highest-ranking devil. Morgen, who snuck into the chamber, attempted to dissuade his brother, but Nacht loved the danger and declared that he would surpass his limits, while summoning the devil. Nacht watched in terror as Lucifugus proved to be too powerful and killed most of the family. Morgen leapt into the magic circle and shattered the bracelet, cancelling the ritual and sending the devil back to the underworld. As he died in Nacht's arms, Morgen told of his dream for them to protect the Clover Kingdom together as Magic Knights. Nacht screamed in anguish and begged the gods to save his brother. He then reprimanded himself and decided to never forgive himself. After Morgen's burial, Nacht sat in front of the gravestone and cried. Yami wandered over and promised to make Nacht his vice-captain once he became a captain. As he left, he took Nacht's discarded pack of cigarettes.

As promised, Yami named Nacht the vice-captain of the new Black Bull squad. Nacht visited the base once before going undercover in the Spade Kingdom. Over the years, Nacht watched the other squad members through the shadows. While the Dark Triad are away attacking the Clover and Heart Kingdoms, Nacht infiltrated the royal palace and searches through the documents in Dante Zogratis's room. A Dark Disciple discovered him, so Nacht disappeared into a shadow and then pulled the Disciple down into his shadow. Nacht emerged from the shadows and walks away. Nacht Faust appeared at the Black Bulls' headquarters and intervened in a conflict between the remaining members of the squad and the Vice-Captain of the Golden Dawn, Yuno Grinberryall. He utilized his Shadow Magic to emerge from the floor and restrain several individuals simultaneously, demonstrating his ability to move through and manipulate shadows. He introduced himself as the Vice-Captain of the Black Bulls and revealed that he had been working as a spy within the Spade Kingdom for several years. Following his introduction, he confronted Asta, who was recovering from a significant battle, and offered to train him in the use of devil powers. He demonstrated his own connection to multiple devils by summoning Gimodelo, a small devil-like entity that rested on his shoulder. He led Asta to a secret chamber to begin a devil-binding ritual, explaining the necessity of mastering devil power to defeat the Dark Triad and rescue Captain Yami Sukehiro. Throughout these actions, he maintained a blunt and critical attitude toward the other Magic Knights, explicitly stating his distaste for those he deemed incompetent or poorly behaved.

That night, Nacht returned back to the Clover Kingdom and caught Asta leaving the infirmary. Nacht restrained the young Magic Knight, talked him down from hastily chasing after the captured Yami, and then introduced himself, revealing that he knows how to use a devil's power. He also introduced his devil, Gimodelo, before releasing his spell and letting Asta stand back up. Nacht explained that he had been undercover in the Spade Kingdom the whole time. Asta asked to learn how to use his devil's power, but Nacht refused and instead insisted that he rest. The next day, Nacht slipped into the captains' meeting and interrupted, complimenting their motivation but criticizing the mess they made of the meeting. Nacht then rose up out of a shadow with Asta under his arm. The captains move to attack the intruder, but Nacht used his devil power to summon four masked beasts to stop them. Julius Novachrono vouched for Nacht's identity, and Jack the Ripper noted that Nacht's magic had changed. Nacht handed over the documents from Dante's room and explained the process for the Tree of Qliphoth. Rill Boismortier wondered why the Dark Triad were doing this, and Nacht claimed that they are evil and their motivations were incomprehensible. In order to retrieve Yami and William and to destroy the Tree of Qliphoth, Nacht wished to train Asta and his Anti Magic and to build a team around Asta. Nacht explained his plan to slip into the castle, lists the Dark Triad's names and magics, and adds that the team will have to be limited in size. When Yuno requested to be on the team, Nacht asked who Yuno was since he was visited by a resistance member from the Spade Kingdom. Yuno revealed that he was the purported prince of the Spade Kingdom; however, he wished to seek revenge on Zenon Zogratis for the sake of William Vangeance and the Golden Dawn squad. Nacht liked Yuno and Sylph's tenacity and power.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Nacht Faust was a male of the human race who possessed a pale complexion and a stoic, often expressionless facial demeanor. He had long, dark hair that was pulled back into a messy ponytail, with several loose strands framing the sides of his face and a fringe that partially covered his forehead. His eyes were dark and slanted, contributing to a sharp and observant look. He had a slim, lithe, and athletic body type, lacking heavy bulk but possessing a firm and upright posture. His clothing consisted of a high-collared, dark long-sleeved shirt worn under a light-coloured, sleeveless tunic that was secured at the waist with a dark belt. He wore dark, slim-fitting trousers and tall, dark boots that reached mid-calf. Across his torso, he wore a leather strap that held several small pouches. Over his shoulders, he wore the tattered, short black mantle of the Black Bulls, which featured the squad's insignia. Additionally, he wore several small, circular earrings and was accompanied by a small, masked devil entity that frequently perched on his shoulder or head. He wears a plain cord necklace, from which hang four devil-connected relics. He has a scar on his left wrist from where Lucifugus' relic was destroyed.

Haunted by Morgen’s death, he considered himself unworthy of forgiveness and viewed his existence as a tool for atonement. His decision to continue living was not born of hope, but duty—he believed he could only honor his brother’s memory by using his cursed power for good. This guilt defined his every action, shaping his moral outlook into one of calculated self-sacrifice. Yet as he fought alongside the new generation of Magic Knights, glimpses of his humanity reemerged, suggesting that even in despair, redemption was possible.

Before his return to the Black Bulls, Nacht had lived a life defined by tragedy and guilt. Born into the Faust family, he was one of twin brothers raised in a noble house that practiced forbidden magic. His brother Morgen embodied light and honor, serving faithfully in the Magic Knights, while Nacht embraced rebellion and darkness. Their opposing paths ultimately led to catastrophe when Nacht’s reckless pursuit of power through devil-binding rituals caused Morgen’s death. The incident left Nacht scarred by grief and self-loathing, driving him into exile and marking the beginning of his lifelong penance.

In the years that followed, Nacht became a shadow operative, mastering the art of infiltration and binding multiple devils to his soul. Each contract came at great personal cost, leaving both physical and spiritual marks. Unlike most who trafficked with devils, Nacht’s control over his power was based not on dominance but on mutual understanding and discipline. He bound four devils—Gimodelo, Plumede, Slotos, and Walgner—each representing a facet of his darkness and serving distinct roles in battle. His bond with them reflected a fragile equilibrium between damnation and redemption, as he used infernal power to fight against the very evil it came from.

He openly mocked the structure of the Magic Knight squads, viewing them as naïve and inefficient. His manner was cold, his words cutting, and his belief in the necessity of cruelty unshaken. Yet beneath his harsh exterior lay a profound sense of responsibility. Nacht’s disdain for idealism stemmed from a desire to prevent others from repeating his mistakes. His mentorship of Asta, though severe, was an act of redemption—an attempt to forge a hero who could surpass the limitations of morality and sentiment.

Over time, Nacht’s relationship with the Black Bulls evolved from distant leadership to reluctant camaraderie. Though he initially regarded them as chaotic misfits, their loyalty and sincerity began to soften his hardened outlook. Their acceptance of his past and unwavering trust in his guidance mirrored the compassion Morgen had once shown him. Through them, Nacht found fragments of the family he had lost, and while he never sought absolution, he began to live for something beyond punishment. His gradual reintegration into the group marked the quiet redemption he had long believed impossible.

Powers and abilities

Nacht possesses tremendous levels of physical endurance, as shown when he continues to fight two highest-ranking devils after being pierced with multiple needles of burning ice.

It was shown that he possessed immense magical power and a profound level of tactical intelligence derived from his heritage as a nobleman and his comprehensive study of forbidden demonology. He possessed absolute mastery over Shadow Magic, a rare elemental attribute that allowed him to manipulate darkness to physically slip through solid obstacles, teleport across massive distances via contiguous shadows, and manifest dense, highly durable tendrils capable of completely restraining powerful physical opponents. His baseline magic was heavily augmented by his status as a Devil Host, holding absolute contracts with four distinct, mid-ranking devils named Gimodelo, Slotos, Plumede, and Walgner. By channeling these entities through his physical relics, he could execute a specialized transformation known as Devil Unite, dynamically reshaping his body into various armored modes that granted him unique traits such as enhanced speed, advanced sensory tracking, and the power to manifest autonomous shadowy clones to overwhelm his enemies in battle.

Faust demonstrated the ability to manipulate and travel through shadows via the use of Shadow Magic. He exhibited the skill to manifest physical tendrils and hands made of shadow from the floor and walls, which he used to simultaneously restrain multiple individuals. He showed the capacity for spatial movement by emerging directly from a shadow to enter a room. He possessed the specialized ability to host and communicate with a devil, specifically the small entity known as Gimodelo, who manifested physically in the human world. He displayed the proficiency to perform a devil-binding ritual, an advanced magical ceremony requiring the preparation of a specific circular seal on the floor. Beyond his magical attributes, he exhibited the skills of an intelligence operative, having successfully infiltrated the Spade Kingdom as a spy for several years without detection. He also showed leadership and pedagogical skills, as he assessed the power levels of other mages and proposed a structured training regimen to help another individual master their internal powers.

In battle, Nacht’s abilities made him one of the most formidable combatants in the Clover Kingdom. His Devil Union mode allowed him to merge with his contracted devils, assuming various shadow forms that granted enhanced mobility, strength, and stealth. His Shadow Magic enabled him to manipulate darkness itself, moving through it as though it were a second skin, striking unseen and binding enemies before they could react. His fighting style relied on precision and strategy rather than overwhelming power, making him a natural assassin and tactician. In the infiltration of the Spade Kingdom, Nacht served as both leader and weapon, guiding the operation with ruthless efficiency.

As a nobleman and the vice-captain of the Black Bull squad, Nacht possesses a large amount of magic power. He can increase his magic power by using his devils' power.

A citizen of the Clover Kingdom (クローバー王国 Kurōbā Ōkoku), he came to join the ranks of the Magic Knights (魔法騎士, Mahō Kishi). He eventually rose to the rank of Vice-Captain of the Black Bulls (黒の暴牛 Kuro no Bōgyū).
