Biography

Moka Akashiya (Japanese: 赤夜 萌香, Hepburn: Akashiya Moka) was born to Issa Shuzen and his second wife Akasha Bloodriver. Both Beyond S-Class monster level vampires with her mother being a Shinso Vampiress and one of the Three Dark Lords. There were many complications with her birth and Moka was born very weak. To save her life, her mother injected her with her shinso blood. However, Moka received so much that she not only became a shinso herself but her hair turned permanently white. Despite this her full powers were dormant. At least a year later, Moka’s stepmother Gyokuro birthed her half-sister Kokoa in hopes to taking Issa’s attention back from Akasha, but no no avail. Moka’s relationship with Gyokuro was strained. Moka also had an older half sister also born to Gyokuro named Khalua who Gyokuro personally trained to be an assassin, though Moka was on good terms with her. Growing up, Kokoa idolized her, but while Moka loved Kokoa she also found her to be annoying. Kokoa and Moka would always 'play' where Kokoa would challenge Moka to a fight but Moka beat her every time due to her superior speed and skill. When Moka was almost nine, Kokoa challenged her to a fight with a spear but Moka still effortlessly beat her. Shortly after, Issa introduced Moka and her sisters to their oldest half sister Akua, who immediately developed a fixation on Moka. She watched as Akua and Khalua fought until their father called off the fight. Shortly after, while outside the household Moka was drugged and ambushed by a group of assassins that were there for her father, but she was saved by Akua who killed them all with her dimensional sword technique.

One day, Moka found Kokoa crying in a corner about being treated as a kid by their family. Moka responded by kicking Kokoa down and telling her to train, saying that she would not get any respect unless she toughens up. Enraged Kokoa attempted to fight Moka with a big hammer, and lost. After the fight Moka tells Kokoa that she did not hold any punches when fighting her because then that would not be real training. Kokoa then asks Moka why she was the only one who doesn’t treat her like a baby. Moka said that it was because she was a kid too. Sometime in the winter, Akasha and Issa left for an event and left Moka in charge. Akua tried to get Moka to play dolls with her but Kokoa dragged her away by challenging Moka to a fight. Later that night, Moka suggested that they wrap themselves in a blanket for warmth when it got too cold. Her parents returned to find Moka and her sisters cuddled up together in their sleep. Moka would sometimes fight Akua, but only won 12 times out of 129. On Moka’s eleventh birthday party her sister Khalua gifted her a teddy bear that she made herself. Kokoa gave her a transformer bat named Kou to use as a weapon but Moka gave it back to her. Akua then gifted her a red dress. After the party, Akua led Moka underneath the Shuzen estate and told her about shinsos and Alucard before showing her the sleeping body of Alucard. Upon finding this out, Akasha scolded Moka and decided that Moka would be sent away to live in the human world from now on, intending to give her a power limiter in the form of a rosary. Moka rejected this and ran off. Shortly after, Moka fought Kokoa again and bested her sister. She told Kokoa that she will never beat her and reveals that she was being sent away soon and will have her powers suppressed with a limiter so this will be their last fight. But Kokoa declares that someday she will beat her. When Moka was being driven away to her new home Kokoa tries chasing after her but falls.

Overview

Personality and attributes

When she goes to school, she wears the Yōkai school uniform, but she does not wear the collar tucked in or the bow tie as she needs to make room to fit the Rosario choker-collar holder and her Rosario attached to it. She sometimes carries a brown suitcase for the Newspaper Club. Because Moka "transforms", her appearance differs slightly depending on her current form where both the Outer Moka and Inner Moka are noted to be extremely beautiful constantly by males as all the male students in the school were attracted to her.

Moka was a very kind, loving, sweet, soft-spoken, polite, nervous and friendly girl towards others who possesses a bit of naivete that draws her into problematic situations, even though she is good-natured. While initially hateful and distrustful towards humans, she eventually grows to care for the only human on campus, Tsukune Aono.

Her bond with him grows stronger over time, to the point where he begins allowing her to drink his blood without protest, just so she remains healthy. When it appears in the story that Tsukune will be expelled, Moka states she'd rather drop out and go with him, because she cannot bear the thought of being separated. She is also good friends with Kurumu Kurono, who considers herself and Moka "best friends" despite their rivalry for Tsukune's affection.

Powers and abilities

Because she is a vampire, Moka is anemic and needs blood to function daily. As a result, she will usually attempt to take a bite on Tsukune's neck, and only his, claiming that his blood is the sweetest (though she has yet to taste the blood of another human). She has always consumed tomato juice or blood packet transfusion to sustain herself. However, her liking for his blood has escalated from fondness into a dependence. If she goes too long without it (around 14 days a least), Moka's strength sharply declines and suffers fainting spells. Regardless, she can still ingest other food and drinks, with tomato juice being the alternative to blood. In the first season, Moka usually sucks Tsukune's blood when he's slack (without his permission), but near the end of first season, Moka finally realized that what she's doing is hurting Tsukune, so she always asks Tsukune for permission before she sucks his blood.
