Biography

Man-Beast in Thor v1 #135.

The Man-Beast was one of the New Men that was created by the experiments of the High Evolutionary. Originally, he was but a normal wolf that was the first taken by the High Evolutionary to his laboratory at Wundagore. He was to be the first wolf to be uplifted in this manner but a distraction led to the machinery transforming the specimen further along the evolutionary ladder. (Thor v1 #135)

He returned to Wundagore where he established a base of operations in secret and began abducting New Men to make them his followers by using technology to make them feral. This was all a part of a scheme to draw the High Evolutionary back to Earth so that he could confront his father. Part of his plot was to remove the High Evolutionary's armor and equip it to himself to amplify his own powers to that of a god. During a battle with his father, he managed to defeat the High Evolutionary and had removed his armor with his creator transforming into energy. This led to the Man-Beast believing that such a path lay for him as well and wore the armor with him confronting those New Men that opposed him who had chosen Kitty Pryde as their champion. The Man-Beast was wounded and stripped from his armor by Wolverine who had flown into a rage making him immune to the villains mindblast causing him to retreat to re-evaluate his plans. (Wolverine: First Class v1 #4)

The High Evolutionary became exhausted during the process of creating his Counter-Earth and he fell asleep. Watching from a distance via a view-screen, the Man-Beast chose this moment to lead his New Men to assault the High Evolutionary's ship, blasting and killing Raam with an energy pistol and then using the High Evolutionary's machinery to guide the newly developed humanity on Counter-Earth to murder each other, to wage war, to rape and slaughter, to torture, and to crucify a would-be messiah. The High Evolutionary after reviving attacked and threatened to overpower the Man-Beast, who summoned his New Men to aid him. Though the High Evolutionary stopped them as well, the distraction allowed the Man-Beast to strike him down with a psychic blast. Before the Man-Beast could slay the High Evolutionary, Him whom had been rescued from space emerged from his cocoon and rushed to attack the New Men. The Man-Beast teleported himself and his followers down to Counter-Earth, whereupon the High Evolutionary considered destroying his now-tainted world, but was convinced by Him to spare it so that he could track down the Man-Beast and to save humanity. The High Evolutionary gave Him the Soul Gem and sent him to Counter-Earth with the new name which was Adam Warlock. (Marvel Premiere v1 #1)

The Man-Beast had a secret passage into Reed Richards' laboratory designed. (Warlock v1 #6)

From within their base, Wundagore III, the Man-Beast directed Kohbra to locate their golden foe. When Kohbra found him in California, he sent Rhodan and his Hounds of Helios to slay him. Warlock defeated Rhodan's hounds, then used his soul gem to transform Rhodan back into a normal rat that came to be seemingly slain by a barn cat. (Marvel Premiere v1 #2) In this time, the Man-Beast adopted the form of a human known as the Prophet. Meanwhile, the High Evolutionary altered Counter-Earth so that it vibrated on a different plane, a mere micro-second out of synch with the rest of the dimension, so that a rocket from Earth approaching Counter-Earth could neither see nor be seen by Counter-Earth. (Warlock v1 #1)
