History
Lux Veritatis (Latin: Light of Truth) originated in 1176 as a secret, internal order of warrior monks within the Knights Templar. The primary circumstance necessitating their creation was the escalating threat posed by magic, sorcery, and the black arts, particularly the Dark Alchemist Pieter Van Eckhardt and his Cabal. The broader Templar Order wished to distance itself from the brutal, covert operations required to combat these supernatural forces, so the Lux Veritatis was established to undertake these perilous and secret tasks with extreme prejudice. The order revered three powerful 'weapons of light', the Periapt Shards, which they had looted from an ancient site in Anatolia during the Crusades and used to fight their enemies. This shadow war, which raged in secret for centuries with staggering barbarity on both sides, saw the Lux Veritatis ultimately capture and imprison Eckhardt in a containment pit beneath their headquarters, Castle Kriegler, in 1445. They then hid the mystical Obscura Paintings, which contained pieces of the artifact necessary to resurrect an ancient race called the Nephilim, throughout Europe.
