History
The Lost Boys were a group of boys that served as companions to Peter Pan and resided with him in Neverland. Their ranks consisted of a group of young, adventurous children brought there by Peter Pan, the self-proclaimed eternal boy who refused to grow up. Originally, they were infants who fell out of their prams and were not claimed by their families within seven days, thus becoming 'lost' and whisked away to Neverland. Their number varied over time, but their presence was marked by a constant state of boyish mischief and loyalty to Peter. The Lost Boys resided in the Underground Home, a hidden dwelling beneath the roots of a large tree in the forest, where they lived a rustic and imaginative life, hunting imaginary beasts, building dens, and defending their domain. When Wendy Darling and her brothers John and Michael arrived in Neverland, the Lost Boys mistook Wendy for a bird and accidentally shot her with an arrow under Tootles' lead, but quickly realized their mistake and honored her as a 'mother' figure. Wendy assumed the role of caretaker, telling them stories, sewing their clothes, and trying to instill some manners and order among the chaos. Her presence marked a shift in their daily routines, introducing new dynamics among the boys, Peter, and Wendy herself.
During their time with Wendy and her brothers, the Lost Boys were frequently drawn into conflicts with the infamous pirate Captain Hook and his crew, who saw Peter Pan and his followers as their primary adversaries in Neverland. The tension escalated when Hook, plotting to eliminate Peter and take control of the island, captured Wendy, John, Michael, and the Lost Boys, imprisoning them aboard his ship, the Jolly Roger. Hook gave them an ultimatum: join his crew or walk the plank. Despite their fear, the boys refused to betray Peter. At the last moment, Peter Pan—having survived a poisoned attempt on his life thanks to Tinker Bell—arrived and led a daring rescue. In the ensuing battle, Peter defeated Hook, and the Lost Boys were freed. After the pirates were overthrown and the Jolly Roger commandeered, Wendy and her brothers chose to return to London. The Lost Boys were offered the chance to return as well. While some of them accepted the offer and were adopted into the Darling family, others chose to remain in Neverland with Peter, continuing their ageless adventures in the forests, lagoons, and skies of the enchanted island. Their tale was preserved as part of Wendy’s stories, immortalizing their place in the timeless legend of Peter Pan and Neverland.
Overview
Their ranks consisted of pre-teen boys lacking any adult supervision, they are often ill-behaved, and enjoy the freedom their wild lifestyle offers, but usually have a hidden desire for a 'mother' figure.
Members
- Tootles : the most unfortunate and humblest of the band, because "the big things" and adventures happen while "he has stepped round the corner." This however has not soured but sweetened his nature. He is the one who shoots Wendy with a bow and arrow after Tinker Bell tells them that Wendy is a bird that Peter wanted killed. When Tootles realises his mistake, he asks Peter to kill him. Wendy however survives, and Tootles is spared. Tootles is the first to defend Wendy when she wants to return to London. When Peter takes possession of the Jolly Roger, Captain Hook's pirate ship, Tootles takes Smee's place as boatswain. At the end of the novel, he returns to London with Wendy and the other Lost Boys and eventually grows up to become a judge.
