John Reid
Reid came to be a dedicated Texas Ranger who rode alongside a tight-knit detachment of lawmen. While tracking a notorious band of outlaws known as the Cavendish gang, the rangers were lured into a devastating ambush at Bryant's Gap. The ruthless criminals opened fire from hidden positions, slaughtering the entire unit and leaving Reid severely wounded and presumed dead among his fallen comrades, which included his own older brother. After the killers departed, a Native American named Tonto discovered the massacre site and recognized Reid, nursing the broken lawman back to health over the following days. Tonto carefully dug six grave markers to deceive the outlaws into believing every single ranger had perished in the attack. Once his strength returned, the surviving lawman chose to hide his true identity forever, crafting a mask to conceal his face as he set out to roam the frontier as a lone champion dedicated to bringing the gang to justice.

In appearance, John Reid was a tall caucasian male who possessed a rugged, highly athletic, and imposing physical build. He had sharp facial features with deep brown hair, presenting the classic silhouette of a seasoned Western lawman. In his regular duties as a Texas Ranger, he wore standard historical law enforcement attire, which included a sturdy leather vest, a tailored western jacket, a dark undershirt, and rugged riding trousers held up by a heavy leather gun belt. Following the ambush, his physical identity underwent a permanent change when he adopted his vigilante persona to hide from the Cavendish gang. He donned a distinct black mask that fully covered the upper half of his face and eyes, which was originally cut directly from the fabric of his deceased brother's uniform vest.
