Biography
Levi Ackerman (Japanese: リヴァイ・アッカーマン, Hepburn: Rivai Akkāman?) was a male human born on Paradis Island in the underground of the City as the son of Kuchel Ackerman who was a prostitute working in the area. She came to be pregnant from one of her clients who left her leaving Kuchel with his child where she came to die leaving Levi all alone. One day, his mother's older brother named Kenny Ackerman came to the underground city to seek out his sister only to find her dead. He came to find the young squalid Levi on front of his mother's bed where in a rare moment of compassion he decided to take in his nephew and care for him. He raised Levi as well as he could: teaching him knife skills, how to get along with people, and violent behavior. Levi also learned to use his own inner power that he possessed as a member of the Ackerman clan. Following his mother's death, Levi attempted to steal back a tea set she had sold in order to pay for food. He was caught in the act and the merchants, after apprehending him, considered selling him into slavery. Levi, disgusted by their behavior, attempted to resist and was nearly beaten to death. However, before the merchants could finish him off his Ackerman blood awakened and he killed all of them in a moment of blind rage. After calming down, he was confronted by the sole surviving merchant who attempted to blackmail Levi into sparing his by arguing that his friends would hunt Levi down and kill him in retribution unless he left the merchant alive to talk them down. Levi simply retorted that no one would believe that a child had killed them before throwing the merchant to his death. Returning to his home, Levi made himself a cup of tea using her set. However, when he attempted to drink it the handle broke, causing him to drop and shatter the cup. From that point on, Levi refused to hold cups by their handles, choosing to hold them by their brims instead. Time passed and eventually, Kenny taught Levi everything he knew. However, he did not consider himself as a good father figure. One day, in the subterranean city, Levi started a fight which he won easily. At that moment, Kenny decided to leave him behind, satisfied that he had taught Levi the skills he needed to survive. Later, he became a notorious thug in the underground but eventually left the place to join the Survey Corps. Although at one point he was at odds with Erwin Smith, he ended up becoming one of his most trusted men.
While on an expedition beyond the Walls, Levi and Hange recover the notebook of a soldier named Ilse Langnar. After reading the contents of the journal, Levi is left stunned and comments that it is what Ilse died for.
Levi Ackerman appeared during the defense of Trost, where he was tge captain of the Special Operations Squad. Entering the battlefield, Levi immediately drew attention with his combat efficiency, cutting down multiple Titans with fluid precision. He darted through the battlefield using his omni-directional mobility gear, striking the nape of his targets with decisive blows. Levi next participated in the cleanup following the retaking of Trost, where his authority over his squad was evident. He coordinated the safe disposal of Titan corpses and maintained discipline among his soldiers, balancing their shaken morale with firm but controlled guidance. Levi took part in the military tribunal convened to decide Eren Yeager’s fate after his Titan powers became known. Before the court, Levi demonstrated his brutal pragmatism by assaulting Eren physically, delivering calculated blows that showcased both his strength and precision. This act was not driven by cruelty but was a deliberate show of control designed to convince the military leadership that Eren could be contained under the Survey Corps’ supervision.

In appearance, Levi Ackerman was depicted as a short but wiry man with sharp facial features, narrow gray eyes, and straight black hair cut in an undercut style. His expression was often stern or indifferent, reflecting his serious personality. He wore the standard Survey Corps uniform: a light shirt beneath a cropped brown jacket bearing the Wings of Freedom insignia, dark trousers, and high boots. He also frequently wore the green Survey Corps cloak with hood during expeditions. His skill in combat led to him being called Humanity's Strongest Soldier (人類最強の兵士 Jinrui Saikyō no Heishi?).
Levi’s personality was marked by strict discipline, bluntness, and an unshakable sense of duty. He was cold and unsentimental in his words and actions, often appearing harsh to both subordinates and superiors alike. Despite this exterior, his interactions showed a deep, though restrained, care for the soldiers under his command, reflected in his efforts to minimize casualties and his subtle respect for their sacrifices. His pragmatism outweighed personal sentiment, making him a soldier whose priority was humanity’s survival above all else.
Due to his early childhood, he had a preference for having an environment that was spotlessly clean. This neared on being an obsession with him being described as a 'clean freak'. He prefers his environment and himself to be spotlessly clean. He is averse to having either himself or his equipment soiled, and has been known to wipe down his blood-smeared blades while still on the battlefield. However, he will not hesitate to touch filth if he deems it necessary.
Despite his preoccupation with cleanliness, Levi is not very approachable. He rarely shows emotion, giving a cold impression to others. His manner of speaking tends to be very blunt, even insulting, and his comments are often coarse or inappropriate. He is not above provoking or belittling those who oppose or irritate him. His sense of humor tends toward the vulgar, insulting, and dark. All of this makes him unsettling to a great number of people.

As a child of the Ackerman bloodline, he had an immunity to having his memory wiped compared to Eldians.
Levi Ackerman was human but possessed extraordinary physical abilities that far surpassed average soldiers. His use of omni-directional mobility gear was unmatched, allowing him to move with extreme speed, agility, and control in three-dimensional combat. His reflexes, strength, and precision made him capable of dispatching Titans with minimal effort, striking vital points with exact accuracy. His Ackerman lineage further granted him a latent power that manifested in superhuman strength and combat instinct, giving him both the physical prowess and battlefield intuition necessary to dominate against inhuman adversaries.
Levi has formidable physical strength, which is no doubt evident by his mastery of the vertical maneuvering equipment. Despite his small stature, his body is well built with heavy muscle, making him very strong, and easily able to defeat his opponents.
Within the ranks of the Survey Corps, he came to head the Special Operations Squad (特別作戦班 Tokubetsu Sakusen-han?) that was famously known as Squad Levi (リヴァイ班 Rivai-han?).
