The League of Ancients
During the Obsidian Age, they defended Atlantis from an attack by the armies of the Egyptian warlord known as the Scarab where they killed him and forced his forces to surrender. (JLA v1 #70)
They later confronted the Justice League where they had defeated and captured the Flash as they confronted that team of heroes. (JLA v1 #72)
Overview
In appearance, the League of Ancients was a multi-ethnic organization whose core field assembly consisted of adult humanoid metahumans, ancient sorcerers, and unique planetary protectors from distinct geographical locations. They featured an irregular, highly diverse collective build because their members maintained distinct cultural physiology, varying from the muscular, armored stature to the lean, athletic bipedal frame. The organization possessed no unified facial features, skin coloration, or hair requirements, reflecting the stark native heritages of the global populations gathered inside ancient Atlantis. They expanded their visual identity by entirely rejecting uniform state military camouflages or matching corporate jumpsuits, allowing individual champions to wear custom vestments and cultural war gear. Their garments consisted of a vibrant, distinct mixture of ancient traditional attire, including the feathered ornaments and fabric sashes worn by Manitou Raven, the simple hide or fabric clothing of the Whaler, and the elaborate, dark ceremonial armor plates worn. The collective displayed an imposing, elite visual presence within the grand stone chambers of Atlantis, accentuating their appearance with specialized weapons, staves, and mystical relics to project sovereign spiritual authority. (JLA v1 #70)
They utilized their collective combat expertise to form a highly destructive, synchronized warfare strategy that combined ancient sorcery with formidable physical strikes to systematically overwhelm planetary defense networks. They did not possess a single shared superpower or collective physical invulnerability, relying instead on a highly diverse array of individual biological traits, planet-channeling links, and ancient Earth magic. Their specialized capabilities allowed separate units to manipulate the literal geographic soil of the planet via Rama Khan's connection to Jarhanpur, weave high-tier Atlantean water magic via Gamemnae, use the Axis Mundi to cast reality-altering spells via Manitou Raven, and project devastating cosmic energy beams from the eyes of the Anointed One. Their primary capabilities allowed them to pierce modern superhero tracking metrics, outmaneuver the tactical vulnerabilities of the Justice League of America, and execute a brutal, successful elimination of high-tier future metahumans. (JLA v1 #70)
It was said that the League of Ancients was unlike the future Justice League. They were unswerving from their convictions which meant that they did not talk or negotiate as they were warriors. As such, they were products of their brutal time period as when they were confronted with an enemy they did everything in their power to kill it. (JLA v1 #74)
