Biography

Laura Matsuda (Japanese: ララ・マツダ/松田, Hepburn: Rara Matsuda) was a female human born in Brazil as the daughter of a Japanese father named Yuichiro Matsuda whilst her mother was Brenda. She was noted to have had an older brother named Fabio and a younger brother named Sean. Laura was trained by Kinjiro in the art of the family's Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu. She trained relentlessly under her family’s tutelage, perfecting the grappling techniques that defined her fighting style. With her brother often idolizing foreign fighters like Ryu and Ken, Laura took it upon herself to showcase the power and uniqueness of their native discipline, seeking to bring international recognition to the Matsuda style. Her decision to enter global tournaments was driven less by personal glory and more by the desire to recruit new students and prove that her family’s art could stand alongside any in the world. When Sean left at some point to become Ken Masters' apprentice and pupil, Laura became the heir of the art. Heir to the Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu style, Laura looked for opponents to fight and to promote her fighting style. Before leaving her house to seek strong fighters, she hugged and teased Sean a bit. She encountered Birdie and offers him a free meal if they fight, afterwards Laura asks Birdie if he knows any strong fighters to which he points her in the direction of Karin. After their fight, Laura asks her if she knows any strong fighters, Karin replied by telling her about Ryu, after finding and fighting the wandering warrior, he talks about the Satsui no Hado. Later on, Laura met and fought against Zangief who gave her tickets to a wrestling scouting event.

While traveling to promote her martial arts school, Laura encountered several of the world’s most prominent fighters, including Ryu, Ken, and Zangief. Her competitive spirit led her to challenge each of them, often turning confrontations into opportunities to learn and exchange techniques. She was impulsive but good-natured, viewing combat as a celebration of life rather than a struggle for dominance. During her early appearances, Laura’s encounters often ended with her teasing or surprising her opponents through her unorthodox grappling maneuvers, which combined traditional jiu-jitsu holds with fast-paced electricity-based strikes. Her partnership with Sean remained central to her story, as she frequently trained him and encouraged him to regain confidence after his defeats. Despite her playful demeanor, Laura demonstrated the seriousness of a true martial artist whenever the reputation of her family’s fighting style was questioned. In her efforts to promote Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu, Laura became involved in global fighting circuits that indirectly tied to Shadaloo’s downfall and the rise of new world tournaments. Though she did not directly oppose major criminal organizations, her travels placed her among fighters dealing with their aftermath, such as Chun-Li and Rashid. Laura’s charm, humor, and free-spirited energy earned her respect even among battle-hardened warriors. Her role as both fighter and ambassador gave her a symbolic presence—someone who bridged the cultural divide between the world’s martial arts traditions. Between tournaments, she returned frequently to Brazil, training local fighters and holding exhibitions that celebrated Capoeira, Jiu-Jitsu, and other South American arts, ensuring the Matsuda name became synonymous with pride and vitality.

As her reputation grew, Laura’s rivalry with other grapplers like Zangief deepened, turning into mutual respect founded on their shared appreciation for physical power and technique. She continued to serve as a mentor and guardian figure for Sean, occasionally chastising him for his recklessness but always supporting his dreams. Her energy and charisma made her one of the most recognizable figures in the fighting world, often appearing in media and sponsorships that brought more attention to her family’s school. Yet, beneath her carefree attitude, Laura maintained a focused discipline, driven by the belief that the legacy of the Matsuda family must endure through both strength and integrity.
