Biography
Charise Carnes was a female human born in the modern age where she and her younger brother Emil were born to William and Virginia Carnes, a rich and prestigious family in Gotham City. William Carnes was noted for being both a wealthy and corrupt real estate mogul with the family gaining a reputation thanks to her father's real estate dealings. He was a kingmaker and had his hand in a lot of politics. Growing up rich, any boy interested in her was after her father's money. And she did not care for boys, as none could compete with her father. Charise was aware of her father's corrupt practices, but idolized him all the same. She never thought another man could come close to the admiration she felt for her father, until she met Trevor. He was a kind boy who was the first one she met that did not seem to care about her family's riches. He certainly did not, as one night he came to her house with knives and made Charise bind her parents and little brother up with duct tape, after which he took three hours to cut them to pieces 'for the lulz', all while Charise was forced to watch or so he claimed. In reality, Trevor was deeply disturbed and murdered her family in front of her. He forced Cheris to tie them up and made her watch as he skinned her. Trevor left no evidence behind that he was even there. (Batgirl v4 #13) He had bought a large landfill on the bayfront of Gotham and enacted the state's biggest land reclamation right on top of it. William Carnes was no saint, though, building his riches with muscle, bribes and countless judges in his pocket. Charise was the sole survivor and obvious suspect. The papers came to call her the ‘butcher brat’ and the ‘spoiled slaughter’. (Batgirl v4 #10) She knew the prison system would not give her justice, so she took the fall and plotted her revenge. (Batgirl v4 #13)

Often obscuring her true motives behind a facade of youthful innocence, Carnes is a tactician Through primarily off page blackmail and bribery, she has built a network of judges, lawyers, and others willing to assist her. This network, coupled with the vast family fortune at her disposal, gives Carnes the resources to make Knightfall a formidable opponent. As a combatant, Carnes prefers knives, specifically the two previously used in the murder of her family.
