Biography

Kirigi in Daredevil v1 #176.

Kirigi

In the modern era, he was summoned by the current Jonin for the Hand to slay Elektra, who had foiled a Hand plot to assassinate Matt Murdoch, Daredevil. Elektra deliberately entered a Hand trap, hoping to slay the Jonin, and was assisted in battling a number of Hand agents by Daredevil. She pursued the Jonin, only to confront Kirigi. Elektra stabbed him with both sais, and he simply pulled them out. He duped her into going for the sai and choked her with a rope-knife. She managed to skewer him through the mid-section with her blade, forcing him to slink off to recover. (Daredevil v1 #174)

The Hand came to resurrect him in order to destroy Elektra. This plot eventually reaches its climax as Elektra, walking into a trap laid by the Hand, attempts to kill the Hand's Jonin with Daredevil's assistance. Instead of meeting the Jonin, Elektra meets Kirigi. In response, Elektra stabs him with two sai; however, he merely pulls the weapons out effortlessly. He then dupes Elektra into going for her sai, only to choke Elektra with his rope knife. However, Elektra manages to impale Kirigi with the former's blade, forcing him to break off the fight. A day later, however, he returns to attack Elektra again after recovering from his wounds using meditation and mystic ointments. Once again, a fierce battle ensues. Elektra flees into a semi-rig and smashes into him at a high speed. Elektra then leaps out of the semi-rig before it explodes. In spite of this, Kirigi merely stands back up, though his skin is still engulfed in flames. Finally, Elektra simply decapitates him as he tries to regain his bearings, saying: "God or demon, Kirigi had a neck and that was human enough." (Daredevil v1 #176)

Several ninjas of the Hand soon clash with the Chaste and Daredevil and sacrifice their lives in order to resurrect Kirigi once again to aid them in their battle against the Chaste and Daredevil. At the moment, Daredevil's enhanced abilities had temporarily lost control and is in an isolation tank with Stick trying to help regain control of them. Newly revived, Kirigi attempts to ambush Stick but he is no match for the Chaste warriors who collectively are able to defeat him. Stick then orders Kirigi's body destroyed to prevent from being resurrected once again. (Daredevil v1 #188)

In addition to being a master swordsman, he was able to move and attack at superhuman speed. Elektra Natchios challenged Kirigi in a final battle on who should get the Treasure (Abby Miller). The two fought but Kirigi got the upper hand, beating Elektra around until Elektra realized Kirigi was the killer of Natchios's mother.
