Biography
Pre-Crisis
Kha-Ef-Re was an ancient Egyptian male who was native to Earth-4 in the Multiverse. In Ancient Egypt, he arose in the era of the Old Kingdom where he became Pharoah and was noted for his evil rule. It was during the XI dynasty that he reigned where he came to create a mastaba for himself in the Upper Kingdom. (Blue Beetle v3 #1)
He was said to had died approximately 2550 B.C. where his body was interned in a tomb. Hieroglyphic writings at the mastaba served as a warning against those that looked to uncover it. (Blue Beetle v3 #1)
In the 20th century, the New York City Museum charted an archaeological expedition to Egypt to uncover the mastaba of Kha-Ef-Re. (Blue Beetle v3 #1)
Post-Crisis
Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Kha-Ef-Re
It was during the era of the mad Pharoah Kha-Ef-Re that sorcery returned to the world. In this time, magic and science were said to had been used to forge the blue scarab gem which bestowed on its wearer extraordinary powers. (History of the DC Universe v1 #1)
The wizard Shazam after ending his role as the champion of the world came to look for a successor to inherit his role. From the Rock of Eternity, he came to witness the mighty deeds of the Egyptian Pharoah Kha-Ef-Re. Travelling to Egypt, he aimed to enlist the Pharaoh for the noble cause but found himself too late as Kha-Ef-Re had been slain by his enemies mere hours earlier. Thus, he came to witness the Egyptian ruler being interned in his tomb with the mystical blue scarab that conferred onto him his powers. (DC Universe Legacies v1 #9)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Kha-Ef-Re was a male human who was a tyrant ruler of Egypt. After his death, he was buried with Khaji Da, the Blue Beetle scarab, to prevent his resurrection. When his tomb was discovered by the first Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett, Kha-Ef-Re came to life, grew in size, and attacked the hero. Blue Beetle would defeat the mummy, with the help of Khaji Da, and once Kha-Ef-Re was sealed back in his tomb, he reverted to his true form which was that of the Blood Scarab. (Blue Beetle v10 #5)
From Argentina, Javier Basualdo and his friends after years of saving came to finally began enact their dream field expedition to the Pyramids of Kha-Ef-Re. He had read in the journal of Dan Garrett that one of the Pyramids had exploded decades ago and wanted to see the tomb for himself. Upon entering the tomb, he could feel a pull from the Blood Scarab. It immediately latched onto his chest, and subsumed his actions, controlling his decisions, destroying the life he once had. (Blue Beetle v10 #6)
Overview
Personality and attributes
Some accounts had claimed that he was an evil Pharoah with him being a cruel and sinful man. Kha-Ef-Re was said to had been eager to bring pain and death to those around him. He was reputed to be allied with the powers of darkness. (Blue Beetle v3 #1)
His people thought of him as a giant and believed him to be greater and more evil than ever. (Blue Beetle v3 #1)
Powers and abilities
Originally, Kha-Ef-Re was an ordinary human being though one who came to hold supernatural power. (Blue Beetle v3 #1)
It was shown that he carried with him a beautiful blue scarab seemingly carved of precious stone. (Blue Beetle v3 #1)
A warning in his tomb said that Kha-Ef-Re would live again if white-hot light touched his remains. Though dead, his body came to be animated by his mind where he became a giant undead mummy. This was after it was bathed in atomic energy from a bomb where the mummy became alive and started growing rapidly to giant proportions where it stood the size of large buildings. With a gaze, those that met his eyes were paralysed by the evil that came from him which were blue beams of hate. If defeated, the mummy could be rendered unconscious where it reverted back to human size. (Blue Beetle v3 #1)
In life, he had been an evil Pharaoh of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. (Blue Beetle v3 #1)
The tomb of Kha-Ef-Re was situated at a site known to the ancients as the Upper Kingdom in Egypt located in the hot broiling desert. Inside, there were portraits and paintings that depicted his various evil deeds. Within the sacrificial alter, there resided a sarcophagus that contained the mummified body of Kha-Ef-Re.
