Biography

Origin

Jubilation Lee in Wolverine v2 #75.

Jubilation Lee was a female human Mutant born to Chinese immigrants who moved to the United States shortly before she was born. She was named Jubilation for the joy her family felt when they came to America. Her father was a bank director and her family became quite wealthy. They ended up living in Beverly Hills and young Jubilation was enrolled in a prep school, where her talent for gymnastics was discovered. She showed great promise and the potential to become an Olympic level gymnast. Jubilation used her superior agility to commit petty crimes. She and her best friend spent most of their time at the local mall, shoplifting and making their escape on their rollerblades. Jubilee didn’t steal for lack of money but for the thrill of doing it. As Jubilee admitted, she wasn’t proud of doing it, just of how they did it. One day, Jubilee’s luck ran out and she found herself trapped in a dead-end alley by a pair of mall rent-a-cops. Fearing juvenile detention, not to mention her parents’ reaction, she panicked and her pyrotechnic powers manifested. The resulting blast destroyed the entire alley. Her first instinct was to run to the beach, where she tried to keep her hands wet so that it would never happen again. (Generation X v1 #24)

One day, her parents were busy with Jubilation deciding to go out with her friends where they were being disruptive at the mall. This led to mall security pursuing them and Jubilee came to take a wrong turn and was cornered. Faced with getting caught, her Mutant powers first manifested under the stress leading to her emitting a pyrotechnic blast from her hands that allowed her to burn through a fence to escape. The fireworks cause came to disorient the security guards whilst Jubilee in a panic tried to douse her hands in water whilst she desperately wanted to go back to normal. Her friends came to find her and they were reunited but the crying Jubilation Lee knew that nothing would be the same for her. (Generation X v1 #24)

Jubilee told her parents about her strange abilities, but it did not seem to be a problem for them. She quickly learned how to control her powers to a limited degree, enough to keep them from activating unintentionally. Not long after her powers emerged, Jubilee’s parents were killed in what seemed to be a car accident on Mulholland Drive. At the time, Jubilee had been at the shopping mall with her friends. When she returned home, Jubilation found the police waiting to inform her of the accident and she was handed over to another couple named Lee from the neighborhood. Jubilee did not like it there and ran away as soon as possible. She returned to the mall, which now seemed to be her only home. (Wolverine v2 #72) It was then that her parents were killed in a mysterious car accident when their vehicle was run off a cliff. Unknown to anyone, this was due to Hunter Brawn who had been laundering through Mr. Lee's bank. Upon learning this, Jubilation's father looked to expose the businessman to the authorities but Brawn had the Lee's killed. (Generation X Annual v1 #1999)

Jubilee lived there for weeks, surviving either by stealing and earning money performing with her fireworks. Mall security was annoyed by her constantly outrunning them and eventually called in an amateur team of mutant hunters, the M-Squad. On the same day, the mall was visited by the female contingent of the Australian X-Men group - Storm, Rogue, Dazzler and Psylocke. Jubilee was the sole witness to their arrival through one of Gateway’s teleportation portals. Admiring the four beautiful ladies, Jubilee secretly followed them through the mall. When the M-Squad attacked the young girl, they were easily defeated by the X-Men who then left the scene exactly the same way they had arrived. Jubilee was intrigued by these other people with super-powers. For reasons known only to him, Gateway deliberately left his portal open longer than necessary to bring the X-women home. Jubilee saw this and jumped through after them. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #244)

X-Men

On the other side of the portal, Jubilee found herself at the X-Men's temporary base in the Australian outback. Jubilee stayed hidden and, while living in the underground base, the mutant known as Gateway was the only person aware of Jubilee's existence. During her stay in the base, Jubilee stowed away in Dazzler's quarters and found an immediate kinship, in the extent of Alison Blaire's wardrobe. Jubilee stole food and borrowed clothes from several of the X-Men to create a makeshift costume for herself. (X-Men Annual v1 #13) Jubilee was present when Nanny and Orphan-Maker ambushed the X-Men at their base, but simply hid while the battle ensued. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #248) Once while the X-Men were out, Jubilee was harassed and hounded by a Reaver guard dog that was left at the base. Jubilee stayed in hiding until the X-Men had abandoned the base, and their enemies the Reavers had captured Wolverine and taken over the base. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #251) Jubilee became something of a kid sidekick to Logan, looking after him as his healing factor dealt with his wounds. During this period, they formed a close, father-daughter bond. When they reached Madripoor, they encountered Lady Mandarin, who was actually Psylocke brain-washed and in a new, Asian body. Jubilee was captured by Psylocke’s master, the Mandarin, and dressed up like a China doll. In desperation, Jubilation unleashed an unprecedented amount of her mutant plasmoid power, completely demolishing the house she was in. This incident made Jubilee extremely wary of pushing the limits of her powers, as she was afraid of hurting people again. Psylocke was eventually freed from the Mandarin's control when she used her psychic knife on Wolverine. This created a psychic backlash and she saw herself in his memories as she once was. Betsy joined Wolverine’s traveling party but Jubilation did not immediately trust Betsy and the two of them were heavily at odds for their first few months together. However, for the sake of Wolverine, they worked together and the trio shared several other adventures in Madripoor. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #258)

When Professor X was almost killed by a villain named Stryfe, who appeared to be Cable, the X-Men were quick to suspect Cable of the deed. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #294) It was Jubilee who persuaded the X-Men that he might not be the culprit, as no one knew what Stryfe really looked like, and he could therefore be disguised as Cable. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #295) When Professor Xavier temporarily regained the use of his legs after being cured from a techno-organic virus, he and Jubilee spent some time bonding. The youngster convinced Xavier that he should try out rollerblading at least once and then deliberately made him crash into a pond of water on the Xavier Estate. That night, Jubilee came to realize that the Professor was more than a stiff guy making the rules and the two of them enjoyed their time together, until he once again lost the use of his legs. Jubilee didn’t know the right words to offer him as she helped get him back to his wheelchair. In aiding her mentor, she realized that there was no need for words at all - it just needed doing. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #297)

A few weeks later, Wolverine encountered Magneto, who magnetically pulled the adamantium in Logan's skeleton out through his pores. The feral X-Man nearly died as a result and was left a shadow of his former self. It was also discovered that his metal claws were not simply implants, as had always been believed, but that there were naturally occurring bone claws under the metal. Logan temporarily left the X-Men to find some answers and to heal properly, as he explained in a letter to Jubilee. He also left her his favorite cowboy hat, knowing the emotional anguish his departure would cause her. (Wolverine v2 #75)

Surprisingly, it was Banshee, who had recently rejoined the team, who noticed that Jubilee was having trouble fitting in. Wolverine’s departure and the recent events at the mansion had shaken the girl much more than she let on to her fellow X-Men. Between their missions, her teammates seemed too busy to care for their youngest member. Sean decided that something needed to be done about the situation. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #313)

Generation X

Jubilee and M in Generation X v1 #72.

Jubilee was saved by Wolverine and taken to a nearby camp where the X-Men were plotting to destroy a Prime Sentinel processing plant. Jubilee was overjoyed to be back among friends. She and the X-Men deactivated the plant but were about to be killed by a squadron of Prime Sentinels when SHIELD's Helicarrier arrived. Acting head of SHIELD, G.W. Bridge ordered the O:ZT forces to stand down, cutting off their government backing. In the confusion, the X-Men stole a SHIELD aircraft and escaped. They dropped Jubilee off at the Massachusetts Academy before returning home. (Wolverine v2 #118)

Oddly enough, this transition did nothing to alter the bad blood between Jubilee and M. Jubilee was arguably the member of Generation X who was the closest friend to the mysterious, mute girl called Penance. However, Monet accused Jubilee of treating her like a pet when she was trapped in the Penance form. She was furious at being dehumanized and looked down upon by Jubilee, who was bewildered by Monet’s reaction since she felt that she had been especially nice to Penance. This difference in perception fueled the continuing feud between Jubilee and the true M. (Generation X v1 #48)

After a severe loss in funding for the school, Emma was forced to ask her older sister, Adrienne, for money. Using her psychometric powers, Adrienne learned the truth about Generation X and agreed to help Emma for her own devious ends. Adrienne reopened the school to Ivy League humans and set herself up as co-headmistress. Jubilee and the others were forced to adopt secret identities in their own home and keep their powers and training a secret from the rest of the student body. (Generation X v1 #50)

Days later, Adrienne was named the new White Queen of the Hellfire Club and used the Danger Room and her own psionic powers to trap Jubilee and the rest of Generation X. She crafted a scenario in which Generation X were trapped in the Hellions' bodies on the day they died. Jubilee found herself in Catseye's body. The safety protocols of the Danger Room were turned off and the team realized they were in real danger. Fortunately, Emma Frost and the team overcame Adrienne's plot before history repeated itself and anyone was seriously hurt. However, they failed to prevent Adrienne from escaping. (Generation X v1 #56)

One of the most important details from her time with Generation X was when she discovered the true killer of her parents, Hunter Brawn. She staged a solo operation, using all of her powers, skills, and abilities to track down Brawn. With the help of her friends and teammates, she managed to take him down. Enraged at how he had destroyed her family, her powers flared to a massive level. Instead of killing the man, she took out her aggression and blew up his warehouse, leaving him to be arrested by local authorities. (Generation X Annual v1 #1999)

Back at the school, Jubilee discovered something rather frustrating. Everett, whom she always had considered more than just a best friend, was falling in love with Monet and they had started a relationship. Jubilee felt a little betrayed that he started dating her rival, since there had always been a bit of romantic tension with Everett that she hoped would blossom into something more. (Generation X v1 #67)

Jubilee’s headmasters had their own difficulties dealing with Everett’s death and other recent events. Sean turned to alcohol after his lover Moira MacTaggert was killed and Emma avoided the police, who were investigating Adrienne’s whereabouts. In the aftermath of all this, Generation X began to doubt their effectiveness and decided to disband. Chamber was invited to join the X-Men and Jubilee seemed more excited about it than Jono himself. The rest of the group went their separate ways. Skin accompanied Jubilation on a road trip across the country as they made their back to their native Los Angeles. (Generation X v1 #75)

After Generation X disbanded, Jubilee moved to L.A. with former teammate Skin to pursue an acting career. Once back in Los Angeles, Jubilee decided that, after following Xavier’s dream for so long, it was time to start pursuing her own dreams: she set out on becoming an actress. Her agent, Kristoff, proved to be a dubious individual. Skin warned Jubilee to be careful and pointed out that all her acting jobs were stereotypical Asian girl roles. Jubilee was only landing brief cameo roles and commercials. Jubilation wouldn’t listen and even accused Skin of being jealous. Eventually, Kristoff found her a bigger role, that of a sexy Asian prostitute. Once on set and in costume, Jubilee expressed some doubts about this role and whether this was the image she wanted to create for herself. When Kristoff hit on her and began to touch and kiss her, she had finally had enough. After giving him a good taste of her mutant powers, she turned her back on the movie business. She returned to Angelo and apologized for the way she had treated him. (X-Men Unlimited v1 #34)

Decimation

Wondra in New Warriors v4 #1.

Jubilee was invited by Night Thrasher to join a new incarnation of the New Warriors, composed mainly of depowered mutants. This new team was equipped with reverse-engineered technology that gave them new powers to fight crime while going against the government's registration act, adopted after the first superhuman civil war. Among her new teammates was her close acquaintance Jono Starsmore. (New Warriors v4 #3)

Wondra and the New Warriors apprehended numerous villains like the Grey Gargoyle, Anaconda and the Rhino, never missing the chance to publicly slam Tony Stark and the Initiative. (New Warriors v4 #2)

After Jono's recovery, the team followed Thrasher during one of his disappearances and found themselves in a confrontation with Counter Force. In the climax of the battle, realizing there was no simpler way to end the conflict, Donyell finally revealed his true identity to both the former and current Warriors. (New Warriors v4 #15)

When Sally Floyd tried to get in touch with the X-Men regarding the sudden depowering of most of the mutants, Jubilee did what she could to help, but since she was no longer a mutant she could not go back to the Xavier Institute and was instead working as a political activist against Congressman Sykes. (Generation M v1 #2)

Shortly after Cyclops established a haven for the world's remaining mutants on an island outside San Francisco, Jubilee moved to the 'City by the Bay'. She was not sure if she was welcome on Utopia since she was no longer a mutant but, after the dissolution of the New Warriors, she needed to start a new life. She began hanging out with some of the younger mutants, who marvelled at her tales of the 'old days' with the X-Men. Despite her tough talk, Jubilation was not sure where she fit among her former teammates. (Nation X v1 #2) She found it hardest to reconnect with Wolverine. She had been his sidekick and one of his closest friends but, now that she was powerless, she did not know how to reconnect. They worked it out while on a night patrol, easily sliding back into the rhythms of their partnership as if nothing had changed. Jubilee finally opened up to Logan about her difficulty adjusting to life without her powers and he reaffirmed that she had always had a special place in his life – powers or no powers. (Girl Comics v1 #3)

Curse of the Mutants

A vampiric Jubilee in Wolverine and Jubilee v1 #1.

However, Cyclops proved to be the superior strategist. Knowing that Logan might be turned in his efforts to rescue Jubilee, he had the X-Club suppress his healing factor with nanites to create the illusion that Logan was fully turned. At the height of the vampires’ siege of Utopia, Cyclops turned off the nanites and Wolverine’s healing factor was fully restored and reversed his vampiric transformation. Scott countered the vampires’ superior forces with creative tactics and a helping hand from his Atlantean allies. Xarus’s defeat was cemented when his father, Dracula, whom Cyclops had resurrected, arrived in his headquarters and challenged his leadership. The fight was brief and Dracula beheaded his son. Jubilee was shocked to see her new master killed but was quickly put in her place by the true Lord of the Vampires. As a parting gift to Cyclops for his assistance in restoring him to life and power among the vampire nation, Dracula allowed the X-Men to leave with Jubilee. (X-Men v3 #6)

There were still times when Jubilee felt the burden of her vampiric nature, such as when her birthday came and all her friends threw her a surprise party. It simply reminded her she would never age again, whilst those around her would. (X-Men v3 #11)

Whilst travelling, she found an orphaned baby boy who was all alone after a meteorite strike and decided to adopt the child. During this time, she came to feel that she was being followed and contacted her friends among the X-Men to help bring her home. It was discovered that the child had been infected by an extraterrestrial bacterial being called Arkea who was the twin sister of Sublime who had been banished into space long ago. She had arrived on the meteorite and took the boy as a host until she could find a powerful machine body to inhabit as she was a technopath. (X-Men v4 #1)

Wolverine decided to re-bond with Jubilee again, so he took her and Shogo to Beverly Hills, where she had lived before she met the X-Men. The two talked about her new motherly role and what it meant for her future. Without Jubilee’s knowledge, Wolverine bought the old house she used to live in before her parents died so that she would still have something to hold on to. (X-Men v4 #4)

When Wolverine lost his healing factor, he started to look back over his life and those he held dear to him. He decided to take Jubilee and Shogo on a camping trip so he could make sure she was happy. However, things took a dramatic turn when a couple of other campers stumbled on the trio and saw Jubilee in full vampire mode. Thinking that Shogo was in danger, the two campers shot Logan and ran away with the baby. Jubilee saw red and raced after them, catching up with them when they got to their car. She was prepared to use extreme violence to get her child back but Wolverine managed to stop her doing something she would regret. That didn’t stop her giving the two campers the biggest scare of their life, though. (Wolverine Annual v3 #1)

Vampire No More

Jubilee in Generation X v1 #87.

Encouraged by Kitty, who was now the headmistress of the school, Jubilee was given a group of students to mentor. It was an eclectic bunch, consisting of Quentin Quire, Bling!, Eye-Boy and a new student called Hindsight amongst others. Quentin in particular proved to be a difficult student as his ego would often cause him to clash with the rest of the group, Jubilee included. In the first day, Quentin managed to destroy a chunk of the school after getting into a fight, just as Hindsight arrived for his induction. Jubilee found herself trying to convince the young boy to stay but the stakes were quickly raised when the Purifiers decided to attack just at that moment. Her main goal was to protect the students and nearby civilians, but she soon had to protect the Purifiers when Quentin almost made them shoot each other. After subduing most of the Purifiers and getting a rein on her students, she got to unleash her rage on the last remaining Purifier, showing him what an angry vampire-mutant can do. After it was all over, she gathered her class and told them some harsh truths. Not every mutant would be on the X-Men and it was her job to give her students the best education in real-world application of their powers. This disappointed a number of them, Quentin and Bling! especially, who aired their displeasure at seemingly being sidelined. Despite the stress of the new job, Jubilee did find support with Chamber, with whom she was growing close once more, as he had taken a shine to Shogo, often helping her out with babysitting duties. (Generation X v2 #2)

Jubilee’s vampirism meant her wounds would heal at a fast rate, but her body was now craving blood to compensate for what she had lost. As the two navigated the tunnels they found M-Plate’s lair, with numerous dead bodies lying around. They managed to find a survivor, but they were also in bad shape, causing Jubilee’s vampiric urges to get stronger. Realizing that M-Plate was near caused Bling! to have a panic attack, giving Jubilee the opportunity to calm her down and form a bond with her. Knowing that she couldn’t hold her bloodlust back much longer, Jubilee convinced Bling! to take the survivor to safety, far away from her. Once she was alone, she got another piece of rebar and impaled her hand to the wall, causing her mind to focus on the pain as opposed the overwhelming urge to feed. The plan worked and they were all rescued by Chamber, Husk and the students, but Jubilee was growing weaker by the minute. Chamber offered up his own blood for Jubilee to feed upon but, as she bit down on his arm, Shogo saw and was scared by it. The young boy wouldn’t go near Jubilee, devasting the young woman. (Generation X v2 #9)

House of X

Krakoan citizen Jubilee in Excalibur v4 #11.

Afterwards, Professor X and Magneto came to work together in establishing a new Mutant island nation called Krakoa. A call was given to all Mutants to migrate to their new homeland with Jubilee being among those that answered it. One of the many wonders that this new nation offered was the ability to resurrect any dead mutant, thanks to the combined efforts of five mutants. Jubilee was soon reunited with her former friends Synch and Skin, as well as many other mutants who had died tragically over the years. (House of X v1 #6)

Even though Apocalypse had created the rag-tag group, he seemed to be keeping many secrets to himself, and was delighted when he discovered Shogo could breathe Dragonfire. Jubilee was immediately concerned at the interest the ancient mutant had taken in Shogo and warned him off going anywhere near the child. (Excalibur v4 #5)

Jubilee began to struggle with Shogo, as he wanted to spend more and more time in Otherworld, where he could be in his dragon form. When a mission to hunt some Warwolves came up, she jumped at the chance to have a break from a dragon-toddler, however things turned deadly very quickly. The Warwolves were in the possession of Cullen Bloodstone, and he wouldn’t let them go unless Jubilee and the rest of Excalibur hunted them in a competition. Naturally, Cullen double-crossed them, as he wanted to hunt some mutants for himself. Jubilee found herself fighting for her life against Cullen and the Warwolves, but Excalibur prevailed. (Excalibur v4 #8)

Some time later, she asked Mondo and her former Generation X teammates to join her on a LARP escape room on her birthday. Mondo and Jono could not make it that day, and Monet said she had joined them afterwards for drinks, but Husk, Skin, and Everett were happy to hang out with her. When Skin used his powers to overcome one of the puzzles, the staff of the escape room realized they were mutants and released a Sentinel against them, while sending personnel to attack them. After Skin was injured, the odds were not looking good for their side, but Monet burst through the roof and destroyed the Sentinel, saving everyone's lives. (X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic v1 #41)

Leading up to the third Hellfire Gala, Jubilee was on the ballot to become one of the newest X-Men. She demonstrated how much she had grown by taking a class of young mutants to the Savage Land on a field trip. Using her leadership skills she managed to direct her charges into taking down a group of dinosaur poachers. (X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic v1 #102)

From the Ashes

Overview

Personality and attributes

Jubilation Lee in Uncanny X-Men v6 #19.
With her adopted son Shogo in X-Men v4 #13.

In appearance, Jubilee was a female human Mutant with youthful, petite features and a vibrant fashion sense that visually distinguished her from the adults around her. She had short, dark hair styled in a voluminous, spiked cut, accentuating her energetic presence. Her attire was emblematic of late 1980s street fashion, consisting of a bright yellow, oversized trench coat that hung loosely over her frame. Beneath the coat, she wore a hot pink shirt and blue shorts, accessorized with large, round, pink sunglasses that covered her eyes even indoors. Her gloves and earrings, both circular in shape, complemented her lively, defiant style. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #244)

Jubilee's personality as demonstrated in her first appearance displayed traits of independence, quick wit, and rebelliousness. She came across as streetwise and confident, unafraid to follow and observe the mysterious women she later identified as the X-Men. Her curiosity was immediately evident, as she tailed them through a shopping mall without hesitation, demonstrating both a bold spirit and a hunger for understanding what made them different. Despite being young and seemingly on her own, she did not present herself as fearful or reserved. Instead, she showed resourcefulness, taking initiative to investigate, and possessing an attitude that hinted at a self-sufficient nature. She was assertive and not easily intimidated, suggesting a deep inner resilience and a fiercely independent streak. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #244)

Jubilee had said that in her time with Wolverine that she learnt to not take a life. (Generation X Annual v1 #1999)

She regularly thought about her parents long after their deaths. Sometimes she would wake up thinking that she was still in her bed in Beverly Hills and that her parents were alive. This tended to lead to her getting depressed again as she thought of the crash that killed them. (Generation X Annual v1 #1999)

In her youth, she used to complain about her parents making her take part in gymnastic practice but later came to be grateful for this skill. (Generation X Annual v1 #1999)

It was noted that her father worked at a bank as its president. (Generation X Annual v1 #1999)

Jubilee hated Christmas as it reminded her of her deceased family. However, this changed after she met Santa Claus and helped rescue him. (Generation X Holiday Special v1 #1)

Her father had a sister who was her Aunt Hope with her being wealthy and having a large mansion. She did not know her brother had a daughter which was why she did not try to reach out to find her when Jubilee became an orphan. (Jubilee v1 #1) Hope Lee was secretly a professional assassin who worked for a Chinese crime lord for years until he betrayed her. As such, her years of experience meant that she was skilled in fighting in hand-to-hand combat and in the use of guns. (Jubilee v1 #5) Her body was shown to contain some cybernetics as she had a hidden mechanical left leg. She had wanted to retire from the assassin life and live with her niece but her former boss refused to allow her to leave that world behind which was why he sent hired guns to kill her. (Jubilee v1 #6)

Jubilation later came to adopt an orphaned baby boy who she named Shogo. (X-Men v4 #2)

Powers and abilities

Jubilee in Generation X v1 #26.
Jubilee in Dead X-Men v1 #4.
Unleashing her powers in Uncanny X-Men v5 #2.
Jubilee as a vampire in X-Men v3 #24.

Jubilee was classified as a Mutant—born with the X-gene, a hereditary genetic trait that manifested naturally and granted her extraordinary abilities. This genetic marker identified her as Homo superior, a distinct evolutionary offshoot from baseline humans. The expression of this X-gene, which commonly emerged during adolescence or moments of heightened emotional stress, allowed her to generate bursts of energy referred to as “fireworks,” though the full nature of these powers would be explored later. Her identity as a Mutant placed her within a marginalized but genetically distinct group often subject to fear and prejudice in broader society. As with all Mutants, her powers were not the result of external factors such as scientific experimentation or magical alteration, but a direct and spontaneous consequence of her unique biology. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #244)

Jubilee was said to be capable of detonating matter on a sub-atomic level. (X-Men v2 #36) Years later, she was able to do so safely while in space on the Collector's Ship. The use of power making her body translucent except for her skeleton, she generated a massive explosion that completely obliterated the vessel and was bright enough to be seen from Earth. Jubilee herself was recovered by Magik, the explosion having blasted away all hair on her body in addition to her clothes. (X-Terminators v2 #5)

She came to refine her powers allowing her to manifest swords composed of energy. With these, she could project dozens and send them slamming into a target area where the sheer number caused a large explosion. (Excalibur v4 #9)

She did not understand Chinese and said she had never learnt the language. (Jubilee v1 #6) Lee had said that she was not a computer hacker but was skilled enough to use the internet to track a person down and store all a person's hardcopy backups. (Generation X Annual v1 #1999) It was stated that Jubilee suffered from dyscalculia. (Wolverine v2 #62)

It was shown that Jubilation had become a skilled gymnast with this being a useful skill for her. (Generation X Annual v1 #1999)

Upon joining the post-Civil War New Warriors team, Wondra gained highly advanced technology from Night Thrasher to replace her mutant abilities, giving her superhuman strength. While the upper limits of this power were not explored, the technology allowed Wondra to lift the engine of a freight train over her head. Wondra's power suit and gauntlets also enhanced her with limited invulnerability, as well as the ability to fly with hover discs. (New Warriors v4 #1)

Jubilee came to be infected with a bio-engineered virus that was designed to slowly turn those exposed to it into vampires. (X-Men v3 #1) This led to her being vulnerable to the hypnotic suggestion from Xarus who compelled her to come to him. As a result, she found herself bitten and sired as a full vampire by him where she gained all the traits of the species. (X-Men v3 #2) Initially, she fell prey to the predatory instincts of vampires and turned against compatriots as she sought to drink their blood. This in turn led to them being infected and turned into vampires as well. (X-Men v3 #3)

Quentin Quire later apparently cured Jubilee from her vampiric status after using a shard of the Phoenix Force he carried to save her from certain death, restoring her mutant powers in the process. (Generation X v2 #86)

After the manifestation of her Mutant powers, she came to join the X-Men. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #244)

After losing her powers, she joined a new incarnation of the New Warriors. (New Warriors v4 #1)

In other media

Television

  • In X-Men, Jubilee appeared in the 1990's animated television series where she was voiced by actress Alyson Court. After her mutant powers became known to her foster parents, her foster father called the mutant control division on her, despite the protest of her foster mother. Overhearing their conversation about the decision, Jubilee questioned to herself why she was becoming a mutant and recalled when she used to be normal, also addressing that it was not her fault that she was a mutant. Prior to a Sentinel arriving at her home, Jubilee retreated to the arcade in a mall and expressed sadness over her previous belief that her parents loved her. She found herself questioning what was wrong with being a mutant as she caused the arcade game she was playing to blow up with the accidental use of her powers. As an official of the store asked her if she knew how much the game cost, Jubilee merely replied that it cost a quarter as the man realized that she was mutant and she started to run from him. While running, she bumped into Rogue and Storm, telling the two to watch where they were going. The Sentinel arrived at the mall and easily identified her, but caused Jubilee to take alarm once it revealed it planned to capture her. Despite some resistance, the robot managed to get her. Once she was saved by Rogue and Storm, she started to roam around the mall desperately and came across Gambit and Cyclops, the latter having her take cover as she passed out while he attacked the Sentinel. She woke up at the Xavier Mansion, where she was being given some support by their medical facility. Once she got out of the room, she made her way across the mansion and saw Beast and Morph as they tended to their own affairs. Upon getting inside another room, she saw Robert Kelly on the monitor and told him to get a life upon hearing some of his opinions on what should be done with mutants. Right after viewing the dismembered head of the Sentinel that had attacked her, she was forced to hide once again when Charles Xavier and Jean Grey came into the room, the latter pointing out to Charles that the monitors were on prior to their departure from the area. She came across Gambit while he was battling Wolverine and under the belief that Wolverine was planning on killing him, used her powers to stop him from delivering the finishing blow. She explained her actions once the rest of the X-Men arrived and was taken by Storm, who explained what the group was and how they operated. As Storm related her own attributes, Jubilee gave justification for her while essentially stating that she was just someone who could blow things up.
