Biography

Jaime Sommers

Born on June 22, 1949, Jaime was raised in Ojai, California by her parents James and Ann Sommers. She had a very active childhood, and often engaged in mischievous behavior. As a little girl, Jaime rode horses, climbed and fell out of trees, and was even caught by her mother hanging from the rafters of the barn at the "old Hanson place." Jaime's mother often encouraged her development, whether through digging up the flowers around her house or hitting tennis balls against the garage door. Jaime had a pet--a dog named Puzzles. As an adult, she recalled when she was Puzzles's 'favorite toy'. In elementary school, Jaime met a young boy named Steve Austin. On his first day in the third grade, she dared him to eat one of everything in the cafeteria.

Even though she walked Steve home after he got sick, he still took revenge on her by putting a lizard down her back as she was swinging in the park. Jaime's fourth grade teacher was a very proper Mrs. Langford. At the age of sixteen, Jaime's parents died in a car accident. James and Helen Elgin, stepfather and biological mother of her childhood friend, Steve Austin, became Jaime's legal guardians. She attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology, where she majored in education with plans to become a teacher. After college, however, she became a top-ranked tennis professional and competed at Wimbledon and the US Open against the likes of Chris Evert and Billie Jean King. This career was cut short by a parachuting accident with Steve that nearly killed her.

Jaime Sommers was a top-tier professional tennis star who returned to her hometown of Ojai, California, where she rekindled a deep romance with her childhood sweetheart, astronaut Steve Austin. During a skydiving date, her parachute suffered a catastrophic malfunction, causing her to plummet through tree branches and strike the ground with traumatic, near-fatal force. To save her life from massive internal injuries, Steve made an emotional plea to government official Oscar Goldman to authorize experimental cybernetic surgery. The Office of Scientific Intelligence rebuilt her shattered body with million-dollar cybernetic components, transforming her into a government property asset. Following her operation, she quickly acclimated to her mechanized state and accepted a marriage proposal from Steve, unaware that her body would ultimately suffer a fatal bionic rejection crisis shortly thereafter. Overview

Personality and attributes

Jaime Sommers was a young human female with a tall, lean, and highly athletic physique honed by years of professional tennis competition. She possessed long, light brown hair that fell past her shoulders and framed her expressive, soft facial features, often projecting a warm, compassionate, and down-to-earth demeanor. Unlike traditional cybernetic beings or armored superheroes, her high-tech enhancements were entirely internal and completely concealed beneath her natural skin, leaving her outer appearance looking entirely human. In her daily routine, she wore fashionable mid-1970s civilian clothing, such as athletic tennis apparel, casual denim, and long-sleeved blouses, with no external modifications, robotic plating, or futuristic insignia to betray her cybernetic nature. Powers and abilities

Jaime Sommers possessed extraordinary physical capabilities derived from surgical bionic implants that replaced her destroyed limbs and inner ear. Her legs were replaced with nuclear-powered cybernetic limbs, granting her the ability to run at incredible speeds exceeding 60 miles per hour and leap massive distances or heights. Her right arm was completely replaced with a bionic equivalent, providing her with superhuman strength capable of lifting heavy automobiles, bending steel bars, and smashing through solid obstacles with ease. Furthermore, she was fitted with an advanced, amplified bionic right ear that allowed her to detect frequencies completely outside the normal range of human hearing and listen to distant conversations from blocks away. (Episode: The Bionic Woman)

Her arm provides her with superhuman strength. She can lift cars, overpower enemies, crush guns, break chains, push over trees, and toss objects and people great distances. Her arm is also highly durable, allowing her to use it as a shield, such as from falling debris. She is also capable of moving it at superhuman speeds similar to her legs, such as taking the lug nuts off a tire in seconds.
