Biography
Markus Sebastian Grayson
During his late adolescence, Mark began to develop powers inherited from his Viltrumite heritage, manifesting first during a mundane moment of working at his part-time job. Once his powers emerged, he embraced the legacy of heroism, adopting the codename Invincible and beginning to test the limits of his new abilities while juggling the pressures of high school life and his family responsibilities. (Invincible v1 #1) His next major activity involved his integration into the world of costumed heroes. Mark trained under his father’s guidance while seeking connections with other young superheroes, ultimately joining forces with the Teen Team, a group of young metahumans led by Robot. As Invincible, he began to take on threats beyond the scope of ordinary law enforcement, displaying both his raw strength and an eagerness to learn. At the same time, his dual identity as both student and superhero began to create tension, as he struggled with secrecy and balancing his commitments. (Invincible v1 #2)
Mark Grayson navigated the complexities of his dual life as a student and a budding superhero. After his father, Omni-Man, departed for a mission, Mark attended school and spent time with his friend William, where he struggled to balance his secret identity with his social obligations. He later donned his costume to patrol the city, eventually encountering aliens named Flaxans who was leading an extra-dimensional invasion. Mark engaged in a frantic battle against the aging alien soldiers, discovering that their physiology reacted strangely to Earth's dimension. Following the skirmish, he met with his father to discuss the responsibilities of his powers and received his iconic superhero name, 'Invincible', after a conversation with his principal about his academic future. Throughout the day, he practiced his flight and combat skills, attempting to prove he was ready for the mantle he had inherited. (Invincible v1 #3) Grayson dealt with the fallout of the recent Flaxan invasion while balancing his increasingly dangerous life at school. He spent time with Eve Wilkins, and the two discussed the mysterious disappearances and deaths of local students. During a school lecture, Mark fell asleep but was later confronted by his teacher, David Hiles, who was ultimately revealed to be the villain behind the student killings. Hiles disclosed that he had deduced Mark and Eve’s secret identities and presented them with his latest victim, who had a bomb strapped to his chest. With only seconds to spare, Mark grabbed the teacher and flew him to Antarctica, where Hiles detonated himself; Mark survived the massive explosion completely unharmed, demonstrating the extent of his invulnerability. Upon returning home, he was shocked to find his father, Nolan, had finally returned from the Flaxan dimension. Despite having been gone for only a short time in Earth hours, Nolan appeared with a full beard and explained that he had spent nearly eight months leading a rebellion in the other dimension due to its different passage of time. The issue concluded with a semblance of normalcy as the Grayson family sat down for dinner and shared stories of their respective battles. (Invincible v1 #4)
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Mark Grayson was a young man of mixed heritage, presenting as an ordinary human adolescent with black hair, brown eyes, and an athletic build. His superhero costume, gifted to him upon his entry into active heroism, consisted of a bright yellow bodysuit with blue sleeves and leggings, accented by a black ‘i’ insignia on his chest and blue gloves and boots. This costume was designed to reflect his new heroic identity while differentiating him from the more austere figure of Omni-Man. (Invincible v1 #1)
Mark was characterized by an earnest and optimistic outlook, tempered by the normal insecurities of a teenager adjusting to both school life and the pressures of superhero duty. He showed a natural sense of justice, a desire to protect others, and a willingness to learn, though his inexperience often left him overconfident or unprepared for the true brutality of his enemies. This mix of youthful enthusiasm and naïveté would later evolve as his trials forced him into difficult moral choices. (Invincible v1 #1)
Powers and abilities
Physiologically, Mark was half-human and half-Viltrumite, inheriting a range of powers from his father’s alien lineage. These included enhanced strength far beyond that of normal humans, near-invulnerability to physical harm, accelerated healing, and the ability to fly at great speed. His Viltrumite physiology also allowed him to survive in the vacuum of space without equipment, making him capable of interstellar travel and combat on a scale few Earth-based heroes could match. These traits marked him as one of the most powerful young heroes of his generation and positioned him as a pivotal figure in Earth’s defense. (Invincible v1 #1)

Alternate Versions
- In Invincible v1 #16 (2004), alternate versions of Invincible appeared in different realities in the Multiverse. Many of these were shown to had followed their father Omni-Man and the ideals of the Viltrumites. They decided to take over Earth, believing he is doing the right thing by protecting people from hunger and cancer, although he would end up killing thousands of civilians in the process. He ends up being fought by the Immortal but is saved by his father. Later, he makes a broadcast about how his rule is absolute. He finds a resistance base and decimates the population, barring Eve who he decides to only injure and Angstrom Levy who escapes through a portal. At least 16 of the Marks that Levy had approached accepted his offer. The group waited in Levy's headquarters as he spied on the mainstream Mark through his drones, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. After days of waiting, Levy finally gave the Marks the order to commence the invasion. In just the very first day of the world-wide invasion, dubbed the Invincible War, the Alternate Marks split: some of them attacked Chicago in seek to somewhat please their personal vendettas in this new dimension that they couldn't achieve in their own, meanwhile some others took it upon themselves to attack the rest of the world, even coming face to face with the world's mightiest heroes and beyond after Cecil had called every superhero in the planet to respond to the threat. The second day came with heavy losses in both sides of the War, including the likes of Rex Splode and Darkwing II in the side of humanity and Omni-Mark and Veiled Mark on the side of the Marks, however, despite their diminished numbers in comparison with Earth's forces, the Invincibles were still winning against humanity by a landslide. By this point in time, they had already leveled several major cities, with more in the way.
