History
Inter-Bots were robotic creations that were based on the New Gods of Apokolips. In Darkseid's plans for Earth, he had Kanto transmit instructions to Earth where they were received by Lex Luthor who served as their agent among humanity. Following the transmission, his scientists took weeks in order to decipher the complex blueprints whereupon LexCorp began production of the humanoid machines. When deployed, they were disguised in the uniform of the criminal organization known as Intergang. During their operations, it made it appear that Intergang had re-surfaced with them being equipped with highly advanced Apokoliptian weaponry. At some point, it was discovered that they operated from a warehouse owned by Bruno Mannheim. In a skirmish with Metropolis police, Superman entered the scene where a scan from his X-Ray vision revealed that the suspected Intergang members were actually machines that he labeled as Interbots. This allowed him to attack them without holding back where he destroyed many of them but was ambushed by a group of them who managed to knock him out with their heavy weaponry. Whilst unconscious, the Interbots decided to flee the scene rather than face capture ad when Superman recovered he revealed to Maggie Sawyer that what they believed were Intergang were robots masquerading as that criminal gang. Afterwards, they attacked a new LexCorp dam that was being unveiled where they were defeated by Superman though this proved to be a distraction as the robots true purpose was to use this moment to kidnap Dr. Emil Hamilton from S.T.A.R. Labs. When Superman investigated a LexCorp research facility, he discovered a battalion of Inter-Bots at the site where they used weapons that created miniature Boom Tubes to capture the scientists for a mysterious purpose but Superman once more managed to defeat them.
Overview
In appearance, Inter-Bots were masked in human clothing that made them appear as members of mankind to the naked eye. However, their humanoid forms were actually composed as highly advanced technology that formed a skeletal structure. They possessed humanoid silhouettes but with exaggerated mechanical bulk, their armored chassis covered in metallic plating that gleamed with industrial harshness. Their heads often carried simple visor-like optics glowing ominously, a design choice that reinforced their lack of humanity while making them visually imposing in the stylized aesthetic of Superman: The Animated Series. Some Inter-Bots were bipedal soldiers built for melee or ranged combat, while larger, tank-like models possessed reinforced limbs and heavy weapons integrated directly into their frames. The use of LexCorp insignia and sleek industrial finishes tied them visually to Lex Luthor’s empire, while their militaristic shapes and angular construction mirrored the Apokoliptian war machines of Darkseid’s armies. The technology was based on that from Apokolips which was highly advanced compared to human equipment and took mankind's scientists weeks to decipher the schematics. Their mechanical forms allowed them to wield weapons and were typically armed with the heavy arsenal from Apokolips that were able to knock out enhanced Kryptonians such as Superman. Other weapons in their arsenal were machines that fired miniature Boom Tubes that were used to abduct targets when struck with the energy blast.
Standard combat units were armed with laser blasters or projectile cannons, capable of sustained ranged fire that forced Superman to rely on speed and defensive maneuvers. Heavier Inter-Bots were shielded by thick armor plating resistant to small-scale attacks, necessitating the use of Superman’s heat vision or super-strength to disable them. Some models were equipped with flight packs, granting them mobility in aerial combat, while others unleashed heavy concussive blasts designed to stagger even Superman. The programming of the Inter-Bots allowed them to coordinate attacks in groups, creating scenarios where players had to manage multiple threats at once, simulating a genuine army rather than isolated foes. Despite their destructive capabilities, Superman’s greater power set ultimately gave him the edge, but their presence throughout the game demonstrated how close Luthor came to bridging human innovation with alien weaponry to create machines that could rival the Last Son of Krypton.
