History

The Infinity Formula was a longevity serum that could allow a person to live young for many years. (Marvel Spotlight v1 #31)

It was originally part of the Elixir of Life used by the Brotherhood of the Shield by the year 1652 with it going by many names depending on potency including the Forever Compound, the Second Substance and the Infinity Formula. By this point, the Patriarch of the Shield Isaac Newton used it to buy the loyalty of his fellow brothers by offering them a long life and punished them with mortality. (S.H.I.E.L.D. v1 #4)

During World War II, a scientist named Professor Berthold Sternberg seemingly had developed the Infinity Formula. A heavily wounded Sergeant Nick Fury was transported to a hidden medical sanctuary in France after stepping directly onto a landmine. The brilliant expatriate scientist Dr. Berthold Sternberg administered an experimental, highly secretive chemical compound designated as the Infinity Formula directly into Fury's bloodstream. The liquid asset initiated a total biological reconstruction of Fury's cellular framework, completely halting his physical aging process and rapidly regenerating his destroyed tissue. However, Dr. Sternberg deliberately kept the precise chemical architecture of the serum a secret to secure a lifetime of absolute financial and political leverage. Sternberg forced Fury to pay an astronomical annual ransom for over thirty years to receive a mandatory booster injection of the asset, as the formula required constant chemical replenishment to prevent Fury's body from instantly catching up to its true chronological age and suffering a terminal physical collapse. (Marvel Spotlight v1 #31)

Mockingbird Bobbi Morse suffered a catastrophic, near-fatal physical trauma after being shot through the chest during a brutal battlefield engagement with a rogue splinter cell of H.A.M.M.E.R. forces. To save her life, Nick Fury authorized a highly unconventional medical intervention, instructing doctors to administer a combined, synergistic chemical solution consisting of the final remaining vial of the Infinity Formula mixed directly with a sample of the Nazi Super-Soldier Serum. The experimental combination bonded instantly with Bobbi's failing immune system, triggering a massive, rapid physical transformation that completely repaired her shredded internal organs and permanently repaired her damaged spine. The newly augmented chemical asset permanently altered Mockingbird's baseline physiology, granting her peak human strength, an accelerated cellular healing factor, and a highly augmented lifespan, while permanently rendering the primary Infinity Formula stock completely depleted and extinct within S.H.I.E.L.D.'s vaults. (New Avengers v2 #13)

Eventually, the Infinity Formula within Nick Fury's system came to disappear from his system causing him to rapidly age over time. To compensate for this, he began to make use of LMDs to hide the fact that he could no longer operate by himself. (Original Sin v1 #6)

Overview

Regular annual boosters were needed to sustain the longevity serum in order to maintain its effects. Without it, a person could age 60 years overnight and die shortly afterwards of old age. However, with the booster shots, a person was able to maintain their youthful form and potentially live forever. (Marvel Spotlight v1 #31)
