The Infernal Machine was an ancient relic that was constructed long ago by the Babylonian people. Thousands of years ago, the Great Engine was conceived by King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon after he received divine inspiration through writings sent by the god Marduk. This massive machine was constructed within the Tower of Babel to serve as a gateway to the Aetherium, an alternate realm where Marduk resided. However, the project was never completed; a frightened Babylonian populace, lacking an understanding of the machine’s power, revolted and tore down the tower that housed it. In the wake of this destruction, four of Marduk's most trusted disciples fled the city, carrying four critical components of the device—the parts of Urgon, Azerim, Nub, and Taklit—to the far corners of the earth to keep them safe. These artifacts remained hidden in locations such as Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Mexico, and Sudan for centuries.
Overview
In appearance, the Infernal Machine was a colossal subterranean complex that blended ancient masonry with inexplicable, advanced mechanical and electrical elements. Its inner sanctum was adorned with strange ornaments and protected by a fleet of guardian robots. At the heart of this vast engine stood a central pedestal and a headless, Pegasus-like statue that required a separate robotic head—sculpted in the image of the god Marduk—to be attached to initiate its reactivation.
