Homo Geneticus are a species that features in Silver Star.

History

Homo Geneticus were a series of genetically engineered mutants born of humanity through the experiments made by Dr. Bradford Miller. A series of pre-natal implants were made on pregnant women with the goal that the resultant children could survival an atomic holocaust engulfing the Earth. Working in absolute secrecy, Dr. Miller located a select group of pregnant human mothers and injected them with an engineered 'genetic package' designed to alter the biological framework of their unborn offspring. The prenatal manipulation was intended to breed a brand-new sub-species of post-atomic humanoids, designated as Homo Geneticus, possessing physical systems capable of thriving amid high-density radiation and environmental devastation. Dr. Miller's own biological son, Morgan Miller, was among the unborn children treated with the compound, inadvertently binding the infant’s genetic template to the evolutionary destiny of this New Breed of humanity. The first recipient of the genetic package was the name known as Darius Drumm. Born as the child of the Drumms, the genetic implants were made to his mother to ensure she was able to have a child without complications. Unknown to anyone, their son Darius Drumm was born with a complete intellect from infancy and could use his superhuman powers. With his abilities, he was able to hide his existence from the world and his parents. In this time, Drumm manipulated people with his powers whilst his father Mister Drumm was the head of the Foundation of Self Denial where he was a notable preacher. After getting all he required, the young Darius then used his powers to turn his fathers congregation against him. This saw everyone being killed with Darius the only survivor where he went out into the world. (Silver Star v1 #2)

For 10 years, Homo Geneticus were under the scrutiny of a small circle of friends that included Floyd Custer. (Silver Star v1 #2)

During the Vietnam War, the U.S military and scientists came to learn of the existence of Homo Geneticus. This came from the experiments that were conducted on Morgan Miller. (Silver Star v1 #2)

While serving a military tour of duty as a young soldier in the Vietnam War, Morgan Miller was subjected to extreme battlefield trauma that abruptly triggered the full activation of his latent Homo Geneticus heritage. Confronted by an enemy tank division, Morgan’s molecular structure violently shifted, granting him a sudden surge of reality-warping energy that allowed him to physically toss an enemy tank into the air with his bare hands. Because his blossoming atomic capabilities were highly unstable and threatened to tear his own cells apart, the United States government stepped in to construct a specialized, high-tech silver containment uniform designed to shield his body and act as a stabilizing regulator for his volatile energetic output. Re-christened as the operative Silver Star, Morgan was formally assigned to track down and neutralize other hostile, super-powered entities emerging from his father's original prenatal experiments. Overview

In appearance, Homo Geneticus were genetically evolved and enhanced humans. Through a genetic package, subjects were transformed into a state that would allow for post-atomic survival. Typically, these were performed by a series of pre-natal implants in pregnant females. (Silver Star v1 #1) The genetic package had unique properties capable of not only giving a human powers but saving their lives. (Silver Star v1 #2)

They were capable of extraordinary superhuman feats that included playing around with atoms with this being a natural tool for them. In one case, a member of Homo Geneticus was able to environmental reshaping through the use of atomic manipulation. As such, they were capable of creating anything they wished that was manifested into the world. This included living creatures to technology or dwellings. (Silver Star v1 #2)

It was noted that Homo Geneticus did not age at the same rate as normal humans. Some remained looking youthful despite decades passing by for them. (Silver Star v1 #2)
