Biography

The assassin known as the Help in Batman: Killing Time v1 #4.

The Help

Around 75 years ago, the person that became the Help was a skinny little child who still had curls in his hair. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #4)

At one point, he was noted to had met Henri Ducard when he was a sweet young boy. Ducard was said to had been gifted his first automatic rifle by the Help. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

At another time, the Help participated in an illegal match against Grant where he decided to bet on the Wildcat thinking sincerely his opponent would win. The two went 22 rounds on a barge off the coast of New Jersey where Grant ultimately was defeated and left unconscious where he fell into the water. The Help lost a potential fortune as a result of the bet and would later wish he had bet on himself. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

Sometime ago, the Help was noted to had been in Kyoto, Japan when he encountered Richard Dragon. The man had attempted to steal the Help's wallet and in the fight used a particular move that Dragon would later use as part of his own fighting style. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

Later on, he would encounter the 12 year old Black Canary who had approached him for a lesson. During their sparring, he improvised a kick and would be quite impressed with her as well as found her to be a creative fighter. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

Some years ago, he came to fight the assassin David Cain where in the battle the man used his Philippine Thrust. However, this left him quite vulnerable on the left side and days later he awoke to approach the Help where he was sobbing to beg to learn how he had been beaten. The fight led to him learning from the experience and adapting his fighting style. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

Seven years ago, the Help stood alongside Ra's al Ghul on a mountain in the east as they watched a dozen of the worlds most skilled fighters sparring. At the time, Ra's had chosen Batman to be his heir with the Help inquiring about the individual. By this point, the Demon's Head had believed that the Help had wasted his talent over the decades and was no longer considered an heir for his mantle. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #4)

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, the Help was a male human who had pale rough skin and a bald head. He typically wore suits and always had by his side a cane. His real name was not known despite extensive research done on him with him only being known as the Help. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

He would speak in a polite manner but was not above killing a person for annoying him. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #4)

The Help would consider the odds and calculate the best outcome. In some cases, he even worked with enemies if it meant that he could reach his goal whereupon he determined that was the time to fight to claim the prize. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #4)

He often hesitated to give dates on his various adventures in the world as he felt it aged him. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

In his life, the Help often contracted his services as a hired killer and assassin where he charged his clients a sum for his aid. During his assignments, there were many times when he did not know the identity of the person who hired him. He felt that his job was simply service and not inquiring about the reasons for the mission. This code had been his one true companion that stood by him over the years. The Help had engaged in almost 80 years of service in this manner but by the modern day had grown weary of it. He had been at this game for quite some time and came to look for a way through it. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

Ra's al Ghul came to refer to the Help as his son and had watched him for decades. In the past, the Help was deemed worthy to be considered the heir of Ra's al Ghul. However, the Demon had come to believe that the Help had wasted his life in service to others and never helping himself. As such, Ra's no longer came to believe that the Help was worthy of inheriting the Demon's mantle. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #4) By the modern day, it was said that the two had not spoken to one another for many years. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #6)

During one of his jobs, he came to encounter the masked vigilante known as Batman. The Help had been familiar with the Dark Knight but it was during this assignment he first encountered him. In their first fight, he came to be impressed with the hero especially after he executed a Ra's al Ghul fighting style. This was to the point that the Help considered writing to Ra's al Ghul to congratulate him that one of his pupils had learnt the lessons of the Demon's Head. Though recognising him to be good, the Help believed still had more improvement to do before he could be truly special. He even often a business card to Batman if he ever wanted the aid of the Help to learn more in an efficient manner. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

He had said that the likes of the Riddler and Catwoman were not his cup of tea. As such, he did not know them in comparison to how the Batman knew them. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #4)

Powers and abilities

The Help had acquired many skills over a life time in Batman: Killing Time v1 #3.

The Help was considered by Ra's al Ghul to be a transcendent student who was calculating, exact, strong, skilled and brilliant. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #6)

He was familiar with the fighting styles of several other fighters. This was the case with Batman who he determined had some of his training overseas. In one case, he recognised a kick from Batman being from Henri Ducard whilst a series of counters he saw being from the boxer Ted Grant. He also recognised a move that Batman used that the Dark Knight believed was a Richard Dragon original but in reality it was something the Help had used on Dragon long ago. The Help also saw a move that came purely from Ra's al Ghul and was impressed by it as few men executed it so well. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3) In a fight with Catwoman, he recognised remnants of the techniques of Vic Sage and Lady Shiva. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #6)

His awareness of danger and reaction speed were shown to be impressive as he was able to dodge a batarang throw from behind at his head from a distance. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

In close quarter fighting, he could use the momentum of his foe to flip them to the ground in order to gain an advantage over them. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

At one point, he was considered a better than the likes of Batman and perhaps still was just as good. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #6)

He was shown to be quite capable of torture and knew a good deal about the application of pain. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)

A common item on his possession was a cane that was constructed of heavy steel and something the Help used effectively in close quarter fighting. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3) The cane he carried actually concealed a blade inside that he could use to wound or kill a target. The blade on the cane was coated in an strong dose of anaesthetic able to cause a fully grown tiger to fall asleep for several hours. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #4) The bottom of the cane also contained a gun that he could shoot at a person to catch them by surprise. (Batman: Killing Time v1 #3)
