After being spotted by the leader, Captain Jack Harkness, she retreated to her vehicle but later conducted an unauthorised investigation into the Torchwood Institute using police databases. She eventually tracked the team to a secluded plaza and discovered a hidden entrance to an underground facility located beneath a public fountain. Upon infiltrating the hub, she confronted Jack, who showed her the advanced technology and extraterrestrial artifacts held within the base. She unknowingly consumed a sedative-laced drink during their conversation, causing her to lose consciousness and awaken at home with no memory of the encounter. However, a specific visual cue triggered the return of her memories, leading her back to the Millennium Centre where she intervened in a confrontation involving a rogue porter and an alien combat medic. She witnessed the death of the porter and the subsequent suicide of a team member before accepting an offer to join the organization as its newest recruit.
