Biography
Origin
Grayven was a male being who claimed to be a son of the New God Darkseid of Apokolips. According to him, Darkseid at some point targeted Grayven's homeworld and crushed it beneath his heel. He paused briefly in his conquest where he spent time with one of the female natives before departing. Unknown to him, he fathered a child who was named Graven and whose existence was unknown to Darkseid. The child was unaware of his heritage until as a boy he was by his mothers side on her deathbed where she confessed to him about his New God heritage. Upon learning the truth, he came to seek recognition as he believed his heritage was denied to him. Thus, in the years that followed, he gathered an army under his banner which he intended to use to subjugate Apokolips and take Darkseid's throne for himself. (Green Lantern v3 #75)
From the galaxy's outer rim, he and his followers ravaged twelve worlds where billions of inhabitants were killed with nineteen Darkstars slain in the process with their next target being Rann. (Green Lantern v3 #74) Grayven had intended to use the Zeta Beam as a means of transporting himself and his armies for the invasion of Apokolips. Upon arriving, he and his forces battled the few remaining Darkstars along with the last Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. Though overpowering his foes, they managed to trick him into the Zeta Beam sending only him to Apokolips leaving his army leaderless and resulting in their surrender. (Green Lantern v3 #75)
He was waiting in the shadows by his fathers side when Darkseid intended to have Superman pilot the Entropy Aegis. (Superman: Man of Steel v1 #116)
Grayven was by his fathers side after the alliance ad been broken by Earth. Around this time, he came under the influence of Brainiac-13 who proved to be a major force in the Imperiex War. He confronted Superman and Darkseid on the surface of Apokolips where Grayven was defeated by the Man of Steel. This led to Darkseid taking it on as his duty to punish Grayven because he had saw his son having shamed himself. (Adventures of Superman v1 #595)
He was revealed to had sent Nero and Effigy after Kyle Rayner as part of a larger conspiracy against the hero. (Ion v1 #12)
Grayven was lobotomized and nearly catatonic, but Thunder and the Martian Manhunter restored his mind and assisted him in building a Zeta-Beam generator meant to send the unknown scourge of the New Gods to Darkseid's throne room. This would force Darkseid and the killer to fight and benefit Grayven either way. Thunder and J'onn tricked Grayven, however; J'onn shapeshifts into the Black Racer, the New Gods' incarnation of Death, which prompts Grayven to use the zeta beam on himself to escape. The real killer finds him moments later at his destination and murders him. (Outsiders: Five of a Kind - Thunder/Martian Manhunter v1 #1)

Television
- In Young Justice, Grayven appeared in the animated seasons third season Outsiders starting from the episode "Evolution" where he was voiced by actor Dee Bradley Baker. Around the turn of the 13th century, Grayven and the rest of Darkseid's forces attempted to conquer Earth but were faced with resistance from Vandal Savage and his army. He and Darkseid's army decimated Savage's army, but the latter wasn't defeated. Standing by, Grayven watched as Darkseid brokered a deal with Savage, forging a partnership to conquer the galaxy together until only Earth and Apokolips were left standing for a final battle for sole domination of the universe. Grayven was present when Lor-Zod struck a deal with Darkseid, following the apparent death of Superboy. After Ma'alefa'ak sent his 16th rebel to the Reeducation Center, Grayven appeared from the shadows to congratulate him and take him for a long-awaited audience with Darkseid. Upon his return from a mission to New Genesis, Ma'alefa'ak met with Darkseid again, and asked for him to fulfill his promise. Speaking on his father's behalf, Grayven admonished Ma'alefa'ak for his impudence, then gave him one more task to perform before getting his reward. Grayven called forth Mantis with the Kaizer-Thrall and asked Lor-Zod to show himself. The later de-camouflaged his Time-Sphere. Grayven ordered Ma'alefa'ak and Mantis to follow Lor-Zod's orders as if they were Darkseid's, and the trio went off in the Time-Sphere. Grayven boom tubed to Durla with Ma'alefa'ak, and gave the pristine world to the Martian as a home for the A'ashenn in reward for his faithful service to Darkseid. Grayven introduced Granny Goodness's newest Furies to Darkseid; Black Mary and Supergirl.
