Biography

Gild Tesoro (Japanese: ギルド・テゾーロ, Romanized: Girudo Tezōro) was a human born into a poor family where he liked singing, and admired an entertainment show that he watched from the outside. However, his mother would often yell at him for his singing and his father wasted a lot of their money by gambling, and later died from an illness that their family could not afford the surgery for. Over time, Tesoro's family grew poorer, and so he left them at the age of 12 years old. He started stealing money, and befriended some people after giving money to them. He spent the money on gambling, liquor, and fighting. When he was 16 years old, Tesoro suffered a devastating loss in an illegal casino, causing his friends to desert him and nearly resulting in him being enslaved. He managed to escape from the slave dealer, suffering many injuries in the process. He then met a girl named Stella in a human shop, and they fell in love. Since Stella hated criminals, Tesoro started legitimately earning money in order to purchase her freedom. However, a World Noble came into the shop three years later and bought Stella in an instant. An enraged Tesoro attacked the World Noble, but was defeated by his security guard. Tesoro was also enslaved by the same World Noble and taken to Mary Geoise as punishment for his assault. During his time as a slave, Tesoro was constantly mocked and abused by his master, who even forbade him from smiling. Two years later, Stella died during her enslavement and Tesoro was enraged that he could not buy her away from her fate, causing him to become obsessed with money. Tesoro was then freed from slavery five years later during Fisher Tiger's attack on Mary Geoise, and dove back into a life of crime and piracy with renewed intensity. He changed the Hoof of the Soaring Dragon mark on his back into a star mark, befitting his transformation from a slave into a gilded king.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Gild Tesoro was a tall, broad-shouldered man with golden-blond hair slicked back and sharp, angular features that exuded arrogance and refinement. His wardrobe reflected his obsession with wealth—gold-trimmed suits, jewelry, and accessories that gleamed beneath the lights of his casino empire. He often wore a white or red suit adorned with ornate golden embroidery, and during combat, he covered himself in gold armor forged through his Devil Fruit powers, transforming into a gleaming, godlike figure. Tesoro’s eyes, narrow and calculating, were often framed by an ever-present grin that concealed both charm and cruelty.

Gild Tesoro was flamboyant, charismatic, and sadistic, reveling in spectacle and control. He exuded confidence and charm in public, masking his paranoia and bitterness beneath the performance of a showman. Tesoro viewed money not merely as a tool but as the essence of freedom, believing that those without wealth were destined to be enslaved by it. This ideology stemmed from his own trauma—his hatred of poverty and subjugation manifested as an obsessive need to dominate others through riches. Despite his cruelty, Tesoro’s personality retained tragic undertones: he was not born evil but shaped by a world where power and money dictated survival. His laughter and grandeur masked a hollow soul defined by revenge against the very system he had come to embody.

Powers and abilities

Gild Tesoro was a human being and thus possessed all the basic traits of a human, but his consumption of the Goru Goru no Mi granted him superhuman abilities that elevated him far beyond ordinary men. Through the power of this Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, Tesoro could manipulate gold at will, controlling it as both a weapon and an extension of his own body. He could liquefy, reshape, and harden gold into armor, constructs, or massive energy-infused attacks, effectively turning the entire golden structure of Gran Tesoro into his domain. In addition to his Devil Fruit powers, Tesoro possessed formidable physical conditioning and combat skills, allowing him to withstand direct attacks from powerful opponents such as Monkey D. Luffy. His strength, endurance, and precision made him a deadly combatant both in close quarters and at a distance, while his mastery of gold manipulation made him one of the most dangerous non–Devil Fruit-dependent tacticians in the world.
