Biography
Origin
Garguax
He claimed to be from a full-grown world that was far superior to a infant planet like Earth. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
One account from Garguax claimed that he was banished from his world causing him to relocate to Earth's Moon. From there, he said that intended to return in glory back to his home planet. This involved him developing weapons that he looked to make him reign supreme on his homeworld. Seeking a new domain to subjugate, he turned his sights toward Earth and established a hidden subterranean headquarters to launch his planetary invasion. To execute his conquest, he constructed a massive, high-tech jukebox robot designed to unleash chaos, which immediately brought him into direct conflict with the Doom Patrol. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
In reality, he had survived the destruction of his space island and continued to operate secretly on Earth through his new base on the planet's Moon. He would eventually come to encounter General Immortus where the two forged an alliance to destroy their common foe in the Doom Patrol. This saw the pair joining the Brain and his Brotherhood of Evil where Garguax used his alien technology to help in creating materials for a financial syndicate operating in Tijali that was overseen by Immortus. (Doom Patrol v1 #96)
In the aftermath, the Brotherhood of Evil gathered at Garguax's moonbase where he went to convince them to seek out larger stakes than monetary gain and instead to seek out world domination as the start in a bid to take over the known universe. General Immortus also embraces these goals and shows off his new device on three victims turning them into loyal diamond skinned slaves under the control of the Brotherhood. In order to turn the rest of the world into such slaves, General Immortus, Monsieur Mallah, and Madame Rouge all travel to different locations on Earth to implant devices that would change the people in the area into the diamond-like zombie slaves that they have created. (Doom Patrol v1 #97)
During the Alliance Invasion, Garguax attempted to join the Alliance only to be rejected and have his base on the Moon co-opted by the Alliance. Feeling slighted, Garguax reluctantly joined forces with the Doom Patrol in defending Earth, but only so he could later take the planet for himself. (Doom Patrol v2 #17) After the end of the invasion, Garguax immediately resumed trying to destroy the Doom Patrol. However, the Chief called in a favor from the United States President to fire a laser satellite at Garguax's ship, which completely obliterated Garguax. (Doom Patrol v2 #18)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Garguax
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Garguax was a massive, gargantuan, and exceptionally obese alien humanoid whose sheer physical scale gave him a grotesque, intimidating silhouette. He possessed completely hairless, pale-green skin and an oversized, bulbous head characterized by sharp, minimalist facial features. His countenance was defined by small, narrow eyes, a flat nose, and a wide, downturned mouth that constantly projected a brooding, arrogant scowl. His uniform was heavily stylized, consisting of a sleeveless, bright red tunic featuring a prominent, jagged black triangular pattern stretching across his massive chest. Beneath the tunic, he wore a dark, form-fitting bodysuit that covered his bulky limbs, paired with thick, metallic wrist bands and matching red boots. The costume was noticeably devoid of traditional capes or superhero insignias, emphasizing his status as an eccentric, technological alien tyrant. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
It was revealed that he in reality was a servant and spy for the ruler of his world with this being Zarox-13. His leader had dispatched him to Earth to assess it and prepare it for conquest by his people's empire. (Doom Patrol v1 #111)
Powers and abilities
Garguax belonged to an unnamed extra-terrestrial race, which naturally granted him the biological traits of a massive physical weight that provided immense structural density and resistance to basic physical impacts. While his immense, bloated physical mass severely limited his personal mobility, speed, and agility, his massive size granted him considerable raw physical durability. His heavy, oversized humanoid frame made him nearly impossible to knock down or physically displace by force during a confrontation. He did not possess direct innate superhuman speed, organic flight, or natural energy manipulation in his basic biological state, relying instead on his massive physical mass to anchor himself while operating advanced machinery and directing his forces during planetary invasions. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
It was also shown that he had a genius-level alien intellect, operating as a master strategist, advanced engineer, and mechanical scientist capable of constructing complex interstellar weaponry. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
His scientific intellect and advanced cybernetic engineering skills that allowed him to construct and command an entire legion of highly durable android soldiers. His technological creations possessed superhuman strength, advanced internal tracking sensors, and built-in laser weaponry programmed to enforce his will and eliminate his targets. This engineering capability enabled him to field a self-repairing robotic army that could completely overwhelm planetary defense forces and execute complex combat strategies without requiring his direct physical presence on the battlefield. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
His primary strength lay in his advanced technological prowess, allowing him to manufacture highly sophisticated weaponry, such as the Giant Jukebox Robot, and maintain advanced subterranean fortresses. He also commanded a highly versatile array of scientific machinery, utilizing specialized devices capable of altering human physiology or turning ordinary citizens into completely submissive, diamond-skinned slaves who obeyed his every command. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
Additionally, he possessed expert knowledge of deep-space piloting and mechanics, allowing him to coordinate with massive alien fleets and manage complex extra-terrestrial logistics for global invasions. Garguax intergalactic piloting capabilities that enabled him to build and operate a massive, high-tech starship equipped with advanced cosmic weaponry. His vessel featured highly sophisticated tractor beams capable of pulling massive objects through space, devastating energy cannons, and impenetrable electronic forcefields designed to neutralize powerful super-beings. His technical mastery allowed him to establish mobile orbital command centers, construct specialized energy containment grids that completely cut off external communications, and systematically orchestrate planet-wide conquests from deep space. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
They were in fact androids that were imitation humans making them man-made living beings that were commanded by their master. These constructs could become large shapeless masses where typically they were dropped onto planetary surfaces by taking the form of a ball. Once deployed, they would then take on humanoid forms where they resembled large mannequins. It was shown that different coloured androids indicated a unique power-set such as blue ones that had superstrength whilst red ones were able to generate heat. When destroyed, their bodies simply shattered into pieces. The remains decayed becoming a kind of liquid where they emitted a terrible odor. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
His vessel was akin to a small fantastic city that could float over the surface of a planet. Something prevented radio scanners from penetrating the walls of this city craft. (Doom Patrol v1 #91)
Notes
- Garguax was created by Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani where he made his first appearance in Doom Patrol v1 #91 (November, 1964).
